What were everyone's favorite real robots? Was it on BattleBots, Robot Wars, Robotica, or something else? What weight class (if applicable)?
My favorites were:
Ziggo - BattleBots - Lightweight
El Diablo - BattleBots - Middleweight
Biohazard - BattleBots - Heavyweight
And there was one on Robot Wars that I liked. It didn't do very well, but I liked it. It had wood for armor, and I can't remember the name of it.
Then there were a couple from Robotica, too. Spring Breaker was one of them. It had an awesome paint job, but it got knocked out in the quarterfinals. And the there was one named "Run Amok", it used a steering system from a junk lawn mower. It seems like it was fairly competitive, but I think got knocked out in the semi-finals.
So what were your favorite ones?
-
Razor from RW was my favorite, only because it was killing one of the house bots.
Gravity's flipper was awesome.
From Battlebots, I think Son of Whyachi is my favorite, as well as Nightmare (who doesn't love a VS with a massive disc???).
-
This should be in the real robotics section, well anyways Bigger Brother, Warhead, Nightmare(BB), Deadblow, and Spawn Again.
-
I made a mistake...
Run Amok was the winner of Robotica that year.
And it really should be, sorry about that.
-
Robot Wars - Hypno Disc, Razer (since I started watching) Typhoon 2 and Storm 2 were cool bots to (who doesn't like a rammer that gets robots oota)
Battlebots - Warhead, Son of Whyachi and Nightmare, also like Surgeon General
-
Warhead, one of the robots to beat Nightmare, Storm 2 was the last world robot wars champion, I think.
-
My favorite bot is Megabyte. Thing is crazy.
-
Storm 2 was the last world robot wars champion, I think.
that would be correct, never got a rematch against Typhoon 2 since it got eliminated round 1 due to spin up failure

Lightweight-- Ziggo and Backlash
Middleweight-- Hazard
Heavyweight-- Vlad the Impaler, Vlad the Impaler II, Biohazard, Nightmare, Tazbot
Super Heavyweight-- Diesector, Son of Whyachi, and Vladiator
-
My favorites can all be found in this thread: https://gametechmods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=355

There was a Vlad the Impaler II? Or is that just the one that had the self-righting mechanism?
-
Nothing against you but that is the third thread made about favorite IRL combat robots...
-

Yeah, it was in the last televised season of Battlebots. It was basically a heavyweight version of Vladiator.

Everyone likes to throw around robots that had killer awesome weaponry and were featured in all of the commercials, I was much more of a fan of the really weird robots.
Mauler is one of the few really popular robots that I liked, mostly because the builders were most likely legally insane and also because after season 1 Mauler ceased to win any fights because all it did was blow up and self destruct. The fight where it showed Killerhurtz a thing or two in season 1 will always be one of the best moments in BattleBots - "that was real gourmet damage". Indeedy.
Everything by the Scrap Daddy team was something I really liked. The team leader (Mark Bradford) was a metal work artist and basically owned a scrap metal dump where he found all of the parts for his robots. He didn't spend a lot of money on his stuff, which for me really epitomizes the BattleBots creed. Minion and Biohazard were cool and all, but pretty boring to be honest and they looked manufactured. Scrap Daddy's creations were a little more personal and even though LW 55 had the everliving heck beat out of it by Ziggo I enjoyed Surplus's fight against Wedge Of Doom, a fight he clearly won but it seemed the judges gave to the more expensive and crappier "manufactured" robot.
Ginsu was a Super Heavyweight made by the two guys who created BattleBots. Normally one might think "hey that's not fair they can't enter because they made the event" and you'd be correct... however Ginsu was a special kind of robot. It fell apart really easily so really that argument holds no ground. Ginsu made appearances in Season 1 through 3 where its chains just randomly fell off; oh, and it started losing saw blades too just for the heck of it. When your robot starts losing chains while fighting Jay Leno's chin robot you know you really screwed up the design somewhere.
I really liked Bender from the Heavyweight class because the team had faith in their robot but NEVER WON A SINGLE FIGHT EVER. 0-5 is what Bender ended his BattleBots career with, which is kinda sad but funny at the same time. It was a nice design (spinning blade tilted down at an angle) but just failed for whatever reason. All the time. In season 5 it was given a total overhaul with a big mean looking saw blade with 2 big teeth on it... and it promptly lost instantly when it was flipped over within 10 seconds of the fight starting. Bender showed up at the most recent BattleBots event and it can only be described now as "terrifying".

Although ironically enough the team mentions their first fight was against the dreaded Megabyte... and then there's no more posting after that. I think Bender just went 0-6.
My favorite robot ever in the history of BattleBots though was StewBot, the lightweight from season 2.0. It was a goddamn remote controlled truck covered in Legos. It was single-handedly the ballsiest entry ever and achieved "f***ing hilarious" status when Crusher put it into the newly beefed up Pulverizer.

R.I.P. StewBot
Fun sidenote, the CUAD the Crusher team (or the driver and main builder at least) is in the furry fandom. He sold all of his robots for fursuit money. That's pretty much blasphemy... but he's a cool guy so whatever.
-
StewBot... I don't remember it, but sounds f---ing hilarious, just like you said. Sounds like something I would do. lol
-
Wasn't there another lego bot called Recycle-o-tron or something?
I'd have to say my favorite real bots are Snake, which I've never gotten a good video of, Complete Control, because the design is genius, and Huggy Bear, because it's a lateral Ccmple Control:biggrin:

Wrong. Bender has a 2-6 fight record, wining against Space Ape and Beta.
-
My favourites were frenZy, because it was just so fun to watch, Dr. Inferno Jr., simply because it looked cool, Snake because it was flat out badass, Atomic Wedgie, and Complete Control.
-
I forgot all about Stewbot and its amazing stew machine. I also forgot about Mechadon. That thing was amazingly weird.

Awr, Bender actually won against someone? Darn now it's not as funny.
edit: Didn't Beta lose by forfeit? I didn't count that.
-
Yep, it was by forfeit (http://www.robotcombat.com/bbsfmay02heavy.html)
-
my fav is super megabyte(shell spinner) and cyclone(true full body spinner with translation(ra2 talk: sns that moves))
-
Anyone know if Megabyte still competes?
-
My favourites:
RW: 1: Steel Avenger 2: Wheely Big Cheese 3: Bigger Brother
BB: 1: Nightmare 2: Tazbot 3: Techno Destructo
Robotica: Mutt (I don't remember the name, It had very deadly drum, it remembed dog)
Finnish Robosota: 1: Purse 2: Voxis 3: Hsaha

Anyone know if Megabyte still competes?
The latest I saw saw Megabyte was a competion in 2005 where it beat Biohazard.
-
Megabyte competed at Battlebots in April.
-
I almost forgot the new Battlebots competiton.
-
I know there is a thread about this already, but while we're on the subject, does anyone know when/if its going to be televised?
-
or at least does anyone know the results of the pro class ?
-
Its gonna be televised, I just can't figure out when.
-
Megabyte competed at Battlebots in April.
What place did it come in?
-
College 120lb will be on the CBS college sports channel. Haven't heard if/when/what the Pro 220lb class or the HS120lb class will be on.
I can't reveal any of the results of those matches due to the NDA I signed to compete.
-
Can you tell me if its likely to be broadcast in the Uk or anywhere else?
-
When will it be on TV?
-
Not sure, best bet is to check http://twitter.com/battlebots and http://www.battlebots.com/BattleBots.com/Home/Home.html

In a previous thread where I was making fun of Bender someone mentioned that he was drawn against Megabyte and that "Bender is now 2-6", which I'm assuming means Megabyte won at least 1 fight.
-
I'm honestly not sure, The 15lb tournament overlapped with the big bots by a fair bit, and I missed a bunch of early stuff. Bender did look great at BBots. It had a steampunk-ish paint job going on.
Some pics from BBots that avoid spoilers:

That would be Blender and Megabyte my oh so blind friend.

Blender was a HS Middleweight at the competition. Bender is the copper and brass colored HW. I will restate again that due to the contract I signed, I cannot discuss the content of the matches in the HS120, College120 or Pro220 classes.
