Bots in pop culture
« on: May 12, 2014, 09:14:46 PM »
Here's a thread for any appearances of robots or robot combat in other TV shows

Team Coolrobots had their bot Knee Breaker guest star as a murder weapon on CSI.  The victim, murderer, and accused happened to have the same names as the team members (Christian, Luke, Brian).  Read into that what you will.

Im going to mention Gamma Raptor and Dr Inferno Jr appearing on Disney's absolute horror of a show Lab Rats. To this day one of the saddest things Ive seen on tv.

Oh yeah Preda Raptor was there too, and he was the only robot that kept its original name. Apparently BB name licenses still exist.

gonna be honest, "the merchant of menace" was a great bot name. so was "josh" for some reason.

The names were pretty well done, just about nothing else was. I ranted about it on facebook last year, maybe i'll expand it into a full blog article someday

two other builders and i were doing a live facebook discussion.

i will have to say, it could've been a lot worse. probably the only redeeming factor aside from the bots was hal sparks. he looked like he was having a lot of fun while on set.

as far as robot combat representations in pop culture goes, zoey 101 is probably the worst IMO

I once had the misfortune to watch some terrible CBBC show called Sadie J, one of her friends made a robot.

It was made out of an old paper shredding machine IIRC.

It came to life.

It attacked the humans.

It went beep and talked.

It could only be destroyed by feeding it paper.

What.

Help.

If I recall correctly the RFL was mentioned in the Big Bang Theory's episode about fighting robots

I think Diesectpr and a couple of other bots were in the same CSI episode above. They were fighting in a cage and what not.

In an Episode of Simon Peggs episode a Robot Wars bot was seen.
Also 2 bots of the german wars (one of them was Luzifer the former Black Hole) were used in an episode of the german tv show Alarm für Kobra 11 (Alarm for Cobra 11) a TV crime show.

Here was an episode of Kim Possible where robots were fighting in a cage underground. It's hard to remember because I saw it when I was like 6-7 years old. The Simpsons also had a robot combat themed episode where Homer pretends to be Bart's robot and wins a bunch of fights.

Only things you need to know are:

There is no such thing as an illegal weapon.
There is only one weight category - robotweight.
They go beep.
They will talk and try to kill you.

Also the murderer's robot was Toe Crusher. It apparently was obliterated by Knee Breaker.

I think you have that backwards...

Also there was a Malcolm in the Middle episode with a robot. Its special weapon was like bees or something

You mean Spaced? There was a whole episode on Robot Combat, had a fair few bot cameos in it too. Probably one of my favourite episodes.

yeah I meant that one. And I meant to write "episode of Simon Peggs show".
