Me, SKBT, and Badnik will be there.

Also, Dark Pounder is coming back. I'm really excited.
-
>Dark Pounder
rip firearrow we hardly knew ye
-
And people wonder why I'm so set in spending less than $40 on my antweight
-
Are you coming, Ian?
-
It's possible that a wedge could take him down. I talked with Russ (the builder) on facebook and he said that he doesn't use the wedge front to fight other wedges. That's the reason why it lost at Robogames 2007. What I've seen from a few videos is that it tends to gyro when it turns. if FireArrow or Slim Pickens could exploit that then maybe it could work. Also, it won't be fighting on a steel floor so Russ won't be using the magnet wheels. I can ask a friend of mine about it who fought at SWARC and saw Dark Pounder during its glory days.
The only bots I'm aware of that beat him in this version (version 7) are MC Pee Pants and Black Wedge.
-
If the MIT convoy is going, then definitely. If I'm on my own for transportation, then I'm not so sure. Plane tickets are a lot more expensive than I thought, quite steep for an insect competition.
I hace started building an antweight though, that will take part in some competition someday.
-
For those who are ignorant about the awesomeness that is Dark Pounder-

One of my ARC buddies is going to be coming this year and he might be bringing a Viper kit to compete with.

Has he already signed up?
-
No. He doesn't know if he'll be able to afford it yet.
-
Ah. In other news, we now have more people signed up than last year!
-
Oh snap, it's Team Danger Zone!
-
Dang, signups are almost filled for the ants/beeles.
-
My friend just took the last ant spot :dumb)

One of the MIT guys signed up. Maybe you could talk to him about it.
-
Who is it?
-
Who is it?
His name's Fred. He went down on friday at Motorama.
-
Ok, I'll have a chat with him. In the meantime, what do I put for my bot's frequency? The base of the bot is a toy car with 24 and some random decimal Mhz, but that isn't one of the options.
-
I'd ask Jeremy about it.
-
I think I'm good. I read through the rules and found two that seem to indicate it's ok:
Radio controlled robots must use approved ground
frequencies, typically 27/49/50/53/75/900/2400 for the United States. Mine is 27.
6.4.4. Toy radio systems are allowed for robots up to 6 lbs with no active weapons
-
Yeah you should be fine. Hope you can come dude! This is shaping up to be an awesome event.
-
Worst case screanrio, if the registration is full, what are my chances of getting to fight if I just show up with a working robot? I feel kinda bad about taking a spot with a robot I haven't built yet, plus it being a naff R/C car with a cake pan
-
Does Troubadour no longer exist?
Also, i'd send an e-mail to Jeremy (the event organizer) first, but it shouldnt be an issue. Just make sure you have the registration fee when you get there.

somehow it ended up at my house again without guts
-
I see you signed up resetti! good on you man!
this year's gonna be amazing
perhaps you could arrange something to get troubadour together again?

It will, but it won't be seeing combat for a while. I'm goign to keep it at home for study and driving practice, and enter events with repurosed R/C cars - I took one apart, and the insides seem manageable. I doubt I'll win any matches, but if I can take a battle-damaged car and get it working again, that will be a personal victory for me.
In fact, I severed some wires by accident while I was taking it apart, so already I have my first repair task.
-
I'll be honest, I think you have it backwards, but I won't stop you from doing what you want.

Backwards in what way?
-
I'd enter the actual robot and use the toys for practice.
-
True, but I'm like in robot kindergarten compared to you. I'll get there eventually.
-
Every single person at any event was in robot kindergarten once.
It wouldn't hurt to give it a shot. Worse thing that happens? You have to buy more parts.
-
My ride to Bot Blast's fallen through. Looking into airfare prices, not sure if it's worth it.
-
Oh no. That's a real shame. Hope you can still make it out somehow.
-
Hey so good news Ian! The MIT guys are planning to come down now. mantis colson incoming.

Oh? Where did you hear that? I'm in their forum and they didn't say anything there.
-
They posted it in the Combat Robotics Facebook.
-
You mean where Jamo said, "we make no promises....but i do want a crack at dark pounder"? (I really ought to friend some of them so I can keep up with the latest)
-
yeah, that one

Me and Russ are like tight bros.
-
It looks like MIT's not going after all; I don't know how it never came up in our conversations, but apparently Charles had no plans ever to go. The airport's quite far from the actual event, so I'll see if I can get comfortable enough with highway driving over the course of the month, and that'll determine if I go.
-
Aaaaaaaaaaaand Jamo's decided to go. There goes my chances at winning :V
-
Didn't they already evaporate when Dark Pounder was confirmed?
-

Last year's best hits. There's a short clip of FireArrow fighting Don't Ask 40 seconds in.
-
Here's my bot; Petit Gateau, weighs 1 pound on the dot. No moving weapons but hopefully the scoop and the forks will do some damage. I already have plans for Mark 2, which will be more resistant to spinners.
Don't give me "Roboteer" I'd prefer to keep my veteran title.

Here's a thing

Ian's first foray into self-built combat robots is certainly interesting. Resembles Onslaught. Unfortunately, it isn't a good robot. I should take an easy win.
Fear Rating: 1/5
Aww, where's the love? :(
-
Are you 100% guaranteed that you're coming?
-
Yeah, I've got my plane ticket, I've got my rental car, and I've got my hotel.
-
Sorry man, but it's an RC car.
Although, there's a fun saying we have over on ARC when we do predictions like that. It's "Go out and prove me wrong!"
-
So, Nate took third in the Beetles and won Best Driver. I didn't do quite as well, going 0 for 4, but my bot's still alive and I got a lot of praise for how good my bot looked, and my homebrew killswitch.
-
Actually Nate took third. Dominant Mode came second.
-
Apparently there were people saying the losers' bracket final wasn't a good decision. I honestly really hoped it was Dominant Mode that lost the winner's bracket final, since I really wanted to face it.
-
Yeah I honestly thought you beat Mondo.
