At this point I'm kinda pick-and-choosing, doing whichever days I think I can do whenever I get the chance to do them. Nothing wrong with that! Anyway, the original Day 11 prompt was "Sour", so I decided it was time to say hello to an old friend... I already optimised it last year, and with the further changes in 2.4 and 2.5, I've been able to seriously bulk it up. In fact, between my optimisations and the motor weight reductions, the original version of Sour Note is now a CW! So I've got that in reserve in case any CW tournaments come up.

Quick LW just to ease myself back into this after missing the last few days because reasons. I'm continuing to experiment with chassis BFEing, and while you'll never get the same level of freedom and convenience as RR2 and RA3, I think there's definitely scope for me to build a viable HW with a chassis more complex than the editor should allow.

I know I already built a flamethrower yesterday, but once you've built a robot designed to look like a bottle of alcohol, there's only one possible weapon you can give it...

Struggled to come up with something for the Day 5 theme, and eventually went for Raven from Teen Titans. It's another wedge flamer, but I tried to do something a bit different with the reverse-wedge at the back.

oh no I'm back on my bullsh** On the plus side, this will probably end up being one of my main 2.5 bots. Just needs a little tidying-up (and for me to ascertain whether its 72V Perm 132 is indeed overkill) and it should be ready to go.

Had difficulty coming up with something for Day 3. This is what I managed to get done: it's a racing cataraman that's turned evil and started running people over. At some point I'm going to build something that's actually practical for tournament play, but today is not that day.

And indeed, here it is: It's completely impractical for actual combat, but it's nice to look at. It also didn't take me very long to build, which is always a bonus. Leaves me free to spend the rest of the evening doing other things.

It's time for the fourth annual Botober event! As always, the challenge is simple: try to build a bot every day for the whole of October, using the prompts listed below, and post them here or in the RA2 Central Discord for others to enjoy! -= HOW IT WORKS =- - Every day throughout October, you must try and build a robot based on that day's prompt, and post a splash image or screenshot in this thread or in RA2 Central (since GTM's basically dead now lmao).
- NEW FOR THIS YEAR: You may use either the official Inktober prompts, or you can use an edited prompt list curated by myself, with prompts that I believe are more suitable for combat robot design. Both are provided below, and you can mix-and-match between them over the course of the month.
- There are no prizes for completing all 31 days. The only prizes are personal satisfaction, and having a fleet of potential new tournament entries. This is meant to be a fun, creative challenge, so please don't push yourself to the point of burnout in trying to complete it.
- You are free to use any game you like (RA2, RR2, Roblox, GMod, etc.), and any mod/meta you like (Stock, DSL-IRL, Ironforge etc). You are free to use different games/metas for different days.
- It's fine to build a bot early, as long as you wait until the day of its prompt to post it. Similarly, it's fine to build a bot late if you need to catch up.
- As ever, I will be taking part myself, and I hope to build past Day 3 this time.
-= THE GOALS OF BOTOBER =- - Test your creativity and building skills. Try out different weapon systems, weight classes, and even new games or metas. Don't be afraid to go outside your comfort zone.
- Build up your roster. The more days you complete, the more new robots you'll have, ready to be polished up and sent into tournaments.
- Botober is a personal challenge - you're competing against the prompts and your own creative limits, not other people. Don't be discouraged if you feel like other people's builds are better than yours, and don't feel like your creations have to be perfect before you showcase them. Remember, you can always revisit and refine your Botober creations after the challenge is over.

Builds have been thin on the ground lately, I'm doing that ADHD thing where I'm trying to juggle thirty million interests and RA2 just kinda drew the short straw for a while Anywho, as part of a build challenge/tournament on the PWT server, I was tasked with building a cambered HS with an anime theme. Having recently watched (and loved) Wonder Egg Priority, I built this and came 2nd: I also built a non-cambered version for more regular tournament play: And speaking of PWT, here's an upgrade of an old design that I never actually used for anything. I intend to throw it into the next PWT round, and maybe some future rounds as well, depending on how it performs.

Here is my extremely original Geodome entry that has totally never been done before Seriously, what else are you supposed to do with this chassis shape? I at least tried to put in a decent amount of effort to make it look nice. I don't expect it to win, but whatever.

I don't even remember what I entered for this. It's not in my results spreadsheet. Was it Jungle Fever?

My World War RA2 Series 3 entry was indeed interesting, and then I forgot to post it here... It's based on a design I experimented with before but never finished. The head and neck are mounted on a Slow Mag Snapper, giving it enough power to lift opponents into the air and to self-right. Speaking of experimental designs, here's something I intend to throw in for Parsec World Tour: A linear actuator-powered forklift is a weapon design I've looked into in the past, and it's actually quite handy for letting you lift opponents off their wheels and push them around. Its drive is surprisingly good, and I did well with Aquamarine in the PWT pilot by using a similar strategy, so this could work well. Or it could fail spectacularly, but that's why it's only an experiment. Also I'm not sure about the name.

First 2021 build is an upgraded Bardiche for Arena Champions 3. Swapped the dual flatmotors for dual TWM3Rs, adjusted the wheels to stop them clipping through the extenderwork and reduce the risk of front-flipping, and did some general tidying-up. Next on my priority list is my World War RA2 Series 3 entry, which should be interesting...

Polished up an old Botober entry, and also took the opportunity to test using BFE to create sloped top plates. Works like a charm! Also made a version for KDestroyer's tourney that has only 1 black, Plastic 5, and steel wedgelets instead of titanium. Miiiiiight **** around and do a whole set of coloured ant wheel components 👀

Might look better with Wedgelets that are orange or red, rather than yellow.
Soft spot for Vesuvius <3 Love that from you
I think the OG version had red wedgelets, so I can switch back to red. I feel like it's gotten kind of a mixed reception and I really don't know how well it'll do, so it's good to hear some praise for it :)

Needed a third bot for OW5, wanted something that had competed previously, and ended up building five hours rebuilding this thing from scratch. Oops. It looks mostly the same, but there've been plenty of upgrades under the hood. The internal frame is stronger and shouldn't split in half if you hit it in the right place, the wedgelets are more effective, and the armour panels at the back have been BFEd to fit together more neatly (the previous version used wedge edges to cover the gaps, which isn't feasible now that they're 10kg each). It's probably gonna be my reserve, so it may not get to fight, but hopefully it can get a shot at redemption.

Quick 2.4 update just to try and get myself back in the mood for Botober again: The spring-loaded Beta motor has been swapped for a pair of wide mediums, making it a lot more powerful, but I had to reconfigure the internals and then downgrade some of its armour. I'm particularly unhappy with the rear wheels, and I might swap them for Hypnos to flatten it out and save weight. Reception in the Discord was positive, though, so I'll leave it as it is for now, make it my Nabi Cup 4 entrant, and tweak it further based on how it does there.

I built my Day 3 bot early as practice, here it is: I feel like it's kinda rushed and unfinished but I can always tidy it up later.

[announcer voice] "ROCKET!" It's uncontrollably fast, and there's probably some clipping issues considering how small and tightly-packed it is, but I'm pleased I managed to get something done. I'll post my pre-built Day 3 bot in the morning and then I'll be going on holiday, so I may not get any more bots done until Day 11. We'll see.
