*Insert cool logo here*

Rules:
DSL LW (No multibots)
Replica Wars arena skinned.
32 bots
Single elimination, alternative choice brackets (I'll explain later)
Entrants choose a DSL replica of a real life bot and then make a replica using ONLY the parts found in that replica and only up to 3 times the amount of them. e.g. use of BOB only allows 3 flamethrowers. Multi extenders, ant batteries and control boards may also be used.
Standard 1 on 1 best of 3, 3min matches.
No AAM/BFE/Outside modification except skinning.
AMENDMENT: BFE may be used ONLY to attach components that may only be attached by BFE such as the Thermidor wheel or Nightmare's Disc. This is at my discretion and so must be requested.
Realistic (Usual stuff) but all in-game glitches allowed within realism.
Once sent, you can change which replica you use but only once. Minor updates within the same replica are infinite.
One free havok restart per match, any more results in disqualification.
I can AI but for best results, please AI yourself. (I'm not going to spend ages optimising AI for each entry). Please state if you wish for me to AI your bot.

Empty spots will be filled by the bye bot Dr. Crab PHD (Battles will occur but contestant always advances)
Byebot:

Alternative choice brackets: Each entrant ranks the other competitors in order of how much they would like to face them. I use this information to rank the bots. The lowest ranked bot gets its first choice of opponent, the next lowest gets its first possible choice in its list. etc. etc.... This gives more evenly matched battles. If not a full bracket, the lowest ranked bots get the byes.

Off-Topic Discussion / Getting a new Desktop where to start?
« on: August 30, 2011, 03:20:53 PM »
Well, my parents say i can get a new desktop computer.
My budget is currently £500 but I'm sure I could get them to pay a bit more. (I reckon £600 is the LIMIT though)
I genuinely don't know where to start looking.

I'm looking for something that can play recent PC games to a bearable standard (i.e Can run them smoothly but not necessarily at their full potential). It would be nice to have a good sized hard-drive (1TB sound about right?) and a decent graphics card would also be good.

But tbh I don't know what I should be looking for  or whether these specs are realistic for this price range.

Could someone point me in the right direction in terms of where to look?

Tournament Archives / NQRW 2: Lightweights
« on: August 17, 2011, 10:24:21 AM »
Chinese Whispers 3: Lightweights
The same as CW1 and 2 but using smaller teams of 3 people and moving into the lightweight class.
24 entrants, so 8 bots.
Yeah, so this would use an innovative bracket system that creates a 1-8 finishing list (although may not 100% reflect the exact order of bot quality). Basically the winners bracket goes ahead but after each round the losers go into their own losers bracket, the losers bracket also has its own losers brackets!

So for example, round 1: A beats B, C beats D, E beats F and G beats H
round 2: A beats C, E beats G    B beats D, F beats H
Round 3: A beats E      C beats G      B beats F     D beats H

Final result: Winner: A E C G B F D H :Last

OK, I made a diagram...:

Now, for my choice brackets to work, I need at lest 10 entrants to rank their opponents in terms of how much they want to face them (Scariest to least scary). This can be PM'd to me or posted here. If this doesn't happen, I will just do a random Bracket.

Discussion / SM tries live streaming
« on: June 22, 2011, 03:59:10 PM »
I was bored this evening so I decided to try and live stream some RA2. Of course it wasn't live as no-one watched it but I have a few vids up of me failing badly. It's still work in progress so the sound is inconsistent and the video itself is very laggy. Oh well, check it out, might do a longer stream tomorrow morning.

Discussion / "Ultimate" Robot Challenge.
« on: April 26, 2011, 07:04:26 AM »
OK, what on earth is this about?
Well, I decided that in DSL (especially LW or below), it may be possible to make the ultimate robot.

How are we going to find it?
Through your input we shall discuss what is needed for this robot which shall be DSL LW. I or someone else who is free then shall make the robot as close to our specifications a s possible. Once we are happy, the bot is complete!

Then what?
Next, to the challenge board! Anyone who thinks they can make a better robot will challenge the "Ultimate Robot" to a best of 3 match in the BBEANS V2 arena. Hopefully our bot will win. If not, the challenger will become the ultimate robot, and so on until nobody believes they can beat it. Or we could have it so the Ultimate robot can be tweaked to iron out flaws if it loses.

What if we just get loads of robots built just to counter the ultimate robot?
Then, erm, we hope we win! This may just end up with an endless cycle of bots but maybe it will work! If not, at least we ended up with a good robot...

So what is my suggestion?
Since wedges are so vital for most bots, I say make a wedge killer. Flail SnS's look good at the moment.

NOTE: I don't think we should allow things such as crawlers and bumble balls.

So, what are your ideas?

POLL 1: How shall we run this? Will be up soon, feel free to suggest more ideas for finding the ultimate robot.

31
OK, I have 2 ideas now. I need to decide which is best.

No. 1: Chinese Whispers 3: Lightweights
The same as CW1 and 2 but using smaller teams of 3 people and moving into the lightweight class.
I'm not sure if I could do this as it would need 24 entrants for 8 bots (my supposed limit is 16).

No.2: Not Quite Replica Wars

So, which should I do? What changes should I make? And, any questions?

Tournament Archives / Chinese Whispers 2: Middleweights
« on: November 16, 2010, 02:24:06 PM »
It's back and bigger smaller than ever with a downgrade to the middleweight class!

How it works:

Once signups close the 4 team captains will be chosen. They will be the builders I judge most capable of leading or those who persuade me the best. The remaining 12 entrants will be divided into teams of 3 using random.org but they will not be informed of teams. The leader will build the chassis and send to me, the remaining weight will be divided by four and the bot passed to the first member. They must add up to the weight alloted but no more than that 10 kg less an then they will send back to me. Then I will repeat, dividing by 3 and sending to next person (same rules) then the same for the last two. The leader will then skin the bot and return it to me. A 1 week time limit will be set for each build section, I will make exceptions for uncontrollable events (like holidays) but if people are excessively long then will be replaced by "backup builders".

Rules:

1) You will be kept in the dark about your teammates until the bots have been AI'ed.
2) You will be limited in the weight of components you are allowed to put onto your bot.
3) You may not remove components your teammates have placed, only rotate them.
4) The team captain will name and skin the bots once it is completed, and create the chassis at the start.
5) Under no circumstances may you BFE, AAM or ZeroG your bot. All building must be done in the bot lab.
6) The bots will be DSL middleweights.
7) Custom Components are forbidden. (Except Smartzones and Fridges)
8) No "Narmour" or other cheaty collision components (Typhoon flags etc.)
9) Arena is Serge's Ring Arena
10) I hope to have 16 entrants (4 in each team)
11)Those wishing to be Team Captains should PM me, I will then choose those who are capable. (Bribes of over £10,000 accepted)
12)Round robin style, all fight all
13) I need 4 "Backup builders" to standby if anyone bails out.
14) It would be nice for the leaders to AI but I can if necessary.

I hope this is voted in :D
