Chatterbox / Oh hello there.
« on: September 08, 2012, 11:10:18 AM »
It's been a while since I've visited this forum. I figured I pop in just to see how everyone is doing and to see how much things have advanced in the world of RA2. So greetings and hello, I hope all is well :D

Stock Showcases / Gigafrost's Crazy Inventions (Stock Showcase)
« on: October 25, 2010, 08:57:07 AM »
Here are some of my very old designs. I figured I dust em' off an give you guys a gander at them and see what I can do to improve them. I will also post designs of bots that will be in my next pack, RA2GE: Legends Unleashed. This time though, I will get input as to how to make these bots deadly. So LU will most definitely be harder than my last AI pack. So let's get started!

Here is an old robot, called Duo Damage. A MW HS.

It uses the Armor plate as a Srimech, Black batt and some pinks for power, Angled motors for drive, HPzteks for weaponry in conjunction with razors.

By the way the mod I'm using is RA2GE.

Discussion / FEAR AND RESPECT RATERS VOTING POLL!
« on: September 25, 2010, 10:46:16 AM »

Here I present to you the nominees for both Fear Rating and Respect Rating!

Final Fear Rater Nominees (Who'll be counted in the tally, in respect to this position):

1- Naryar
2- Craaig
3- G.K.
4- Jonzu95

Final Respect Rater Nominees (Who'll be counted in the tally, in respect to this position):

1- G.K.
2- Jonzu95
3- Gazea2
4- Craaig
5- Jack Daniels

All you have to do is vote for who you think deserves to be a Fear/Respect rater, or both. ANYONE can vote, you can even vote for yourself if you want to or you can choose everyone on the list if you choose. This tally is just to help let everyone know who is most qualified for such positions. This is also a thread in which you can explain why you don't think someone should be such and such if you absolutely have to. HOWEVER, such posts must be both respectable and legit. This is not a Flaming thread, and those who flame will be omitted from voting.

So I advise that if you think someone does not deserve a position, simply do not vote for them.... No need to say it.

This poll will expire after 1 week, gives you plenty of time to think about who should be what. Thank you and happy voting!

Tournament Archives / Tournament Video Compression?
« on: September 11, 2010, 11:22:48 PM »
For those who are skilled at posting videos that stream very well *cough* click *cough* I was wondering as to how you go about compressing your files so that they load quickly in the tournament?

I don't want people waiting an hour to view one video :P

Thanks, Gig.

Tournament Archives / ELBITE Matches MOBILE - Mail Notifications Thread
« on: September 04, 2010, 08:02:32 AM »
Welcome those who tune into ELBITE and/or are competing,

Due to the fact that ELBITE's integrated Challonge! bracket system has a feature that allows for competitors to be notified on how they fared in their match ups, I would like to give the option for competitors to, upon request, be notified in an email message on their results pertaining to their progress in the Super Tournament. This is entirely voluntary, but I think it would help be of some convenience for those who are "on the go" often or if you have some video capability on a mobile device.

  What's the convenience?

ELBITERS will be able to simply check their email to see how one of their bots did during a matchup. In the email, a user will receive the following:

1. Tournament bot picture cards (see intro to match videos, the gray stat card thingies) showing weapon, strengths and weaknesses, etc. These cards may be more or less more in depth than the ones seen in the   videos.

2. Downloadable Tournament .bot file.

3. Matches your bot competed in thus far as well as a Direct Link to the corresponding match video(s).

4. Link to the forums and the elbite website (duh).

  Spam?

Of course not. You will ONLY be notified of your personal matches. This is simply an added benefit for signing up in the tournament.

Well, what if I'm not competing?

If you are not entered into ELBITE, you still have some benefits in being notified, all of which only pertain to non-competitors:

1. Upon request, receive a tournament card on your favorite bot, showing stats, strengths and weaknesses.

2. Matches your favorite bot competed in thus far as well as an   indirect link to the corresponding match video(s) through ELBITE's forum thread.

3. Link to the forums and the elbite website (duh).

Awesome! How do I sign up?

Simply post your response in this thread, telling me that you would like to sign up. To do that look at the following:

Quote from: Rawflesaurus
  Sure! Sign me up!

  Email: rawfle[NOSPAM]@hotmail.com

In this format, the text [NOSPAM] is just there to prevent spam bots from seeing your post and spamming you. Put it somewhere in your email when posting to do so. This is NOT part of your email address and will be omitted when I notify you.

That's all?

Indeed. But remember, you will only be NOTIFIED. Please do not respond to the notifications or ask questions in the emails, the auto-mailer won't respond back.

Enjoy, Gig

  What's Taking So Long Gig?!

As   you know, doing tournaments takes a while,  let alone matching entire   teams, so I am working diligently to get as much  stuff rolling as   possible. First, We'll start with tournament 1. After that  tournament   is complete, we'll start tournament 2 and so on. This way, all of your    bots will be in at least one of the 3 tournaments. Until then, let's   get this  party started with Tournament 1! Good Luck to all of the   competitors.

Also, just letting those new to tournaments know. This thread will be huge. All  three tournaments will be discussed here.

« on: July 23, 2010, 08:43:46 AM »
Finally! Here is the place where I will basically post any ideas, sketches, formulas, code scripts, all the nine yards whenever I see fit. Been meaning to do this for a while but never had a chance to. But now I will from time to time post my formulas on the things I make. Feel free to respond or give some feedback to these posts. I will greatly appreciate it.

Don't know exactly how long its been there, but my AI Pack and patch is listed incorrectly.

Both the Patch and the AI Pack are listed within the AI Pack section as "patches" like so:
RA2GE Awesome Patch  (Full Version)
RA2GE Patch  (Smaller condensed version)

However, The Link that says "RA2GE Patch (Smaller condensed version)" should be renamed simply to, "RA2GE", as it is not a patch nor is it condensed. This is required for the Awesome Patch to run as it is the original Pack or "base" if you will and could be played by itself.

RA2GE Awesome Patch however is just a patch, not the full version. It simply fixes the bugs in the RA2GE Pack and additionally adds more codes/unlockables. It CANNOT be played by itself and requires the RA2GE Pack to run (since its a patch). Simply taking out (Full Version) should fix that up.

In essence it should look like this:
I apologize for not noting it sooner and any confusion in the past.

REVISION!
I am quite aware of the number of issues that revolved around building non damaging bots in DSL and to be honest, they did end up to become a bit of a bore. Therefore, this season, I have decided to change the rules completely (and will update the website respectively). This season, ELBITE will still require it's ELBITERS to make three bots to compete, but instead, each person will organize those bots into one team. This speeds up the organization process on my part and on your part as well. Also this time around, all three of the tournaments will be DEATHMATCHES, but in each tournament, you will get to choose which bot you would like to compete for your team. Remember, You will now be creating a team for three of your DSL-BUILT DAMAGING BOTS which will each be put into a separate tournament. Sounds good? Good.

THE RULES AT A GLANCE (Not following these rules will risk you your entry into the Super Tournament) These rules apply to ALL 3 Tournaments
  • Weightclass this season: MW
  • Gametype: DSL
  • Tournaments: 3 Deathmatch Tournaments + 1 Final Match
  • Building Rules/Mission: Build 3 Damaging bots, Create a team for them (TEAM NAME IS A MUST), compete and win!
  • More about driving (In addition to the building rules stated here): Bot's that are unable to drive straight; see driving test in BBEANS, are not allowed. Bot's MUST ATLEAST be mobile in turning Left/Right and driving Forward/Backwards. Bots that sway a little so as it doesn't affect their driving path is OK, no bot has a perfect driving system, but bots that "circle" for example are NOT OK.
  • Number of revisions to bots: 1 for each bot made respectively. BOTS MUST BE ORIGINAL TO EACH OTHER. Bot's that look EXACTLY like each other will be confusing for Robot Arena to recognize, and me too. Give your bots different names as well so I can differentiate between them.
  • Arenas used: 3 Different OOTA style Arenas TBA. I REALLY CAN USE HELP WITH THIS ONE. Still can't build custom arenas but I am able to skin and render.
  • Prizes:
-1st Place Prize: + Fire Badge + Gold Ticket
        -2nd Place Prize: TBA
           -3rd Place Prize: TBA
  • Gold Tickets: Gold Tickets are given to the winner of each tournament, therefore, a single team could win more than one ticket. These tickets could be used in your sig, and will grant you VIP access to ESIS (TBA what that is about in the future!). I will add more rules when I see fit.

  • Number of Entrants Allowed: The ELBITE Super Tournament is an Elite Competition. Due to the lack of a Loser's bracket and the unique quality of having 3 Tournaments in event, we will only be accepting 32 entrants. This means that 32 entrants x 3 Tournaments = 96 Possible match ups, not counting the matches when your team bots go against each other which will not be allowed. If you do become matched up with one of your own bots, there are a number of things that one could consider.
-Multibots: Multibots are indeed allowed. Just keep in mind that They would still count as one bot.
-Choice Tags: If by the rare occurrence that more than one your bot ends up in the finals. Both of your bots will get a Choice Tag Before your match even continues. A Choice Tag is a little red tag that will be placed on your bots entry pictures indicating that you must choose one of them in order to continue. The empty space left by the bot that was not chosen will become a number of things:
-It will turn into a ByeBot of which the other competitor will go up against. For more on ELBITE's ByeBots, check out my website and related links.
-The empty space will turn into the In Queue competitor in the waiting list. This is ONLY if that competitor has won an ELBITE Badge before (Badges must be PM'd to me as proof).
            -Move up the previous contender.
And now, here are the SEASON 1 ELBITERS! Round of applause for winning a tough spot to compete in ELBITE!
(Remember to state your team name when you submit if you want to apply)
RED indicates ELBITERS who plan to attend. ORANGE indicates submitted teams undergoing validation. GREEN indicated Teams are well validated for entry in the tournament. Keep in mind that due to gametech's new rules on Tournaments, The names in red will be replaced by entrants who submit their team and bots.

NOTE: Messages in PURPLE tell you what you need to correct or missed in your entry.

FINAL VALIDATION IS CURRENTLY UNDERWAY! VALIDATION WILL END ON TOMORROW NIGHT 12:00 AM EST. BETWEEN TODAY AND TOMORROW EXPECT PM'S IN YOUR INBOX STATING WHETHER YOU ARE READY TO GO OR IF YOU NEED TO MAKE SOME MINOR CHANGES. Become the ELITE... ELBITE Super Tournament Season 1 - 2010

10
Good morning everyone, a really long time no see, I hope all is well.

Now I must both apologize and confess on behalf of my absence and the massive tie in with my college schedule. I had become overwhelmed with my own life to the point that I became completely preoccupied with ELBITE. I'm taking up a career in web design (which is very demanding) and i never really had a chance to get some free time with this wonderful forum. But technology just isn't on my side since i've left...

Luckily however, Things have died down, and now that I'm back on the forums, in short, I guess that you and I can both agree that the current robots that have competed seem a little "dated". To top it off, as i said before with the technology/server issues, due to some bug on my system (or virus), my computer was not able to power on. The only option was to completely reinstall my Operating System, thereby, losing not only most of my ELBITE things, the competitors, the arenas, and the robots, but everything I ever made previously on Robot Arena 2, RA2GE, and all. It's been a while and now, coming back, I feel ashamed having to come back to you with such a devastating story. But as one famous person said, "____ Happens."

I guess all I'm asking is that if it is ok with you guys for me to re-open the ELBITE SuperTournament, so more people can enter and so i, no, we, can start afresh... It's completely in the hands of the staff and i understand completely if they disagree with it at all. I just really want to contribute to this forum for my loss and am willing to announce it not only to ACAMS and comp. but to the community, so you all know the reason as to why this thing hasn't been up and running like it should. I really want to finish this awesome event and i know you all want to as well, so your input is greatly appreciated.

Regards, Giga

Discussion / Fear Raters And Respect Raters: Official Badge Upgrade
« on: September 30, 2009, 05:31:04 PM »
Over the years, times have changed. And the Badges for the Fear/Respect Raters are getting older and older looking. Let's face it. They're plain ugly.

Therefore, thanks to Adobe Illustrator CS4 and ComApp classes. I've redid them!

Fear:

Respect:

-Not Actual Size.

If you are a Fear/Respect Rater you will get the genuine version of these badges in a PM ASAP. They're cleaner, sleeker, and shinier.

12
This is a more straight forward thread than the previous one.... Instead of the discussion board, this thread will host the actual brackets and Match Videos of your precious robots! And the bots are being AI'd, polished, and prepped up as we speak.

THE RUN DOWN
(Will be displayed in order by which they appear):

1st Session
  • ESIS will discontinue... It has no purpose on my website, takes up my website space and my time, and it just annoying to look at. Enough of the flashy stuff for now.
  • [/COLOR]
  • Brackets for ELBITE's Tabletop Division will be displayed on May 20th, 2009; predictions are welcome. I will give my predictions of the outcome each match as well.

  • Videos will then start rolling in after (in respect to the time intervals by which they can be created AND after all your bots are AI'd).
  • IMPORTANT: After all the match videos have been displayed, (which may take WEEKS or even a whole month to complete), the winner of the division will receive a special item called a "division ticket" which will grant them passage in the final death match (against the other winners of the other seperate divisions). This ticket is just a little icon that will be displayed under the winners image showing that they will enter the final fight. More about the ticket will be announced.
  • The division ends with a few words from Rawflesaurus himself via video (the host of the tournament) and we move on to the next divison.
2nd and third sessions will begin like the first. and begin after the division is complete. However, the time by which the brackets will be shown will vary.

Note: This is the order that the divisions will be started.

-Tabletop Division
-King Of The Hill Division
-DeathMatch Division
-FINAL BATTLE  (Winners of all three divisions will face off!)

Coronation

Once the winner of the final battle has been announced, one more thread will be created to give out the prizes and in honor of all the warriors who won each division but didnt win the grand prize and will all recieve a 2nd place prize (TBA).

The Grand prize winner will recieve the grand prize as well as the badge; They are BOTH very important to the winner in any nostalgia matches (see gametechs wiki for more info). It's a very big deal and a high status symbol to wear such a badge...

Third place winners (The runners up of each division after losing to the winners) will recieve component reskins based of of RA2GE's BETA Release. A collectible item all in all.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please post it into this thread or the discussion thread. I will also update the rules if I missed anything... May the Best Bot win and Good Luck!

Discussion / But Alas! I have Returned...
« on: May 12, 2009, 02:19:36 PM »
Tis' been about four days since I have signed out of my campus life (school is finished) and have settled back at my mothers. Of course this means that I will finally have enough time to make up for hosting ELBITE and working on LU. And that's just the beginning...

I also changed my major from engineering (not much of a math and science person) to web design and graphic art as well as I've finally decided to try and follow some long term goals in this life...

Anyway long story short, I'm finally back on the forums and was just wondering as opposed to what's new? It's good to see new people still becoming members on such a great game as well as my well missed old members.

Discussion / Fear Raters & Respect Raters - The 10 Commandments + 1
« on: March 23, 2009, 02:05:34 PM »
Here is where any changes to the ratings will be posted! I will look here to see if you have made a valid change. Otherwise changes will not be made to that specific member. Fair Enough?

Changes will now be looked at/made on the summaries of the wiki pages that the Fear and Respect Raters edit. This means that when you edit a page, type something meaningful in the summary text field at the bottom like "why you rated whoever, etc."  This is so that all the rest of us get a clear and equal understanding on why the rating was given.

10 Commandments For Fear And Respect Raters:
  • Thou shalt not make false judgements.
  • Thou shalt not judge based on emotion.
  • Thou shalt not judge based on relationship.
  • Thou shalt make all judgements logical and true.
  • Thou shalt display EVERY change in this thread on the summary of the members edited page.
  • Thou shalt not boast.
  • Thou shalt not slander.
  • Thou shalt abide by the rules of the nomination threads.
  • Thou shalt weareth thine badge proudly.
  • Thou shalt respect the badge, it's power, and never giveith it to another member.
  • And thou shalt of course, Have fun!

For Members posting in this thread (Excluding admin staff):
Please be respectful as to not argue with the Fear/Respect Raters based on your rating, In this field they are above you. If you have a problem do not post it on this thread. Instead, send me a PM. If the problem persists, I will talk to Naryar or any of the other heads of the wiki about it.

When Rating
As of now, you should have a good idea how many points someone deserves for something. Currently there really is no limit as to how many points one should receive, and it typically balances out thanks to the other members. But of course you shouldn't be making ridiculously high or low ratings anyway - if that's the case chances are, that too will balance out.

Anything else you would like me to discuss with you about the Ratings, let me know asap. Do not ask for a position in Rating however, I will let you guys know when the time comes!

Thank you.

General Support / How to do Evasive Manuevers PY?
« on: March 12, 2009, 08:04:58 AM »
This has been lightly discussed, but how would we go about emulating a code that makes the enemy avoid contact with the user or other bots after all it's weapons are broken off?

I think it has something to do with the engage command or the code which makes the AI go towards the opponent. Would reciporicalizing the values have an opposite effect?

To get a better understanding of my reasoning:

Before Weapons are broken off: Bot engages battle with opponent through approaching and attacking

After Weapons are broken off: Bot switches to "flee" instead of "shove" and avoids the opponent for the rest of the match

One more poll for ratings, but a tad different...blah blah blah.

Ok since I am creating the new Respect Ratings catagory to everyone's status, I propose that I assign a selected few to assist. Maybe like two more people Besides myself (we don't need much). To ensure that we are the ones changing the Respect Ratings,

I will give you this small badge [fake duplicate] Badge coming soon [/fake duplicate] indicating your acceptance into the Respect Raters Group. Put it in your sig if you wish, I would!

These badges are going to be straight from my gametechmods ftp directory- To ensure realism, I can simply right click on your badge and check its location. In case some people copy and paste it into their own sig using an image uploader of some sort.

Qualifications:

-Honesty
-Good Sense of judgment
-Been on the forums for at least two months

The first six people who respond in interest will be polled. After the voting, these six will be allowed to change the Ratings. However, if they don't seem correct to me, I will change it myself. All other changes to Respect Ratings besides the badged members will not count after the polls.

Rules once you are a Respect Rater

Once you become a RR, you can only be able to change all the members per month. This means that you can only change the Respect Ratings of up to all the members every new month. I will check the Ratings often through the Recent Changes link in the wiki to validate your change.

Regards and Happy Rating, Gigafrost

« on: February 24, 2009, 02:50:55 PM »
Greetings... I was wondering if i can get some help in learning how to create custom menus and buttons for RA2? Kind of simular to what you guys did for DSL and its previous versions. I'd really appreciate it.

P.S. I think I also placed this thread in the wrong section... Apologies.

Tournament Archives / ELBITE Drawings Video and Discussion Board
« on: January 27, 2009, 03:23:51 PM »
This is for the release of the ELBITE Matchups Video! Consisting of people from all around the forums, I will show you guys who will be matched up with who for each of the three tournaments... Table Top, King of the Hill, and the final Deathmatch. The video will be shown tonight before 12:00 am so look out for it!

Also Note that I am ONLY showing you names at the moment and not the bots themselves (which is the reason for a separate thread- look for the bot vids in the ESIS section once its up eventually). This is simply because I want you guys to discuss some probable predictions of who you get before i show you the bots, as well as anything else you want to talk about concerning ELBITE in this thread. It is also easier on my part as videos take a long time to load and adds suspense and flavor to the tournament atmosphere...

Of course be sure to abide by the forum rules of posting and I am pretty sure that these three matchups will indeed be VERY interesting matches to watch!

Regards, Gig
