Tournament Archives / THE REAL N00b Warz V SBV Thread
« on: June 19, 2016, 04:14:01 PM »

Hi guys. Sorry about the silence from me, N00B Warz V ran into some delays.

Most notably me being kidnapped and held hostage for 200 bitcoins. Have you ever had to record your own hostage video? It's demeaning to say the least. I only escaped when I chewed through the ropes using my teeth in the dead of night. Looking through the forums however, no one really noticed or was worried. THANKS GUYS I REALLY APPRECIATE IT

Anyway, I got back to my house, checked my computer and found some changes.

I opened the notepad and it said this.

What a horrible person he was.

Well, now i'm back and i've got some housekeeping to do

1) RobotCrusher57 and his "robot" Destroyer are disqualified on account of kidnapping the tournament host and trying to run the tournament himself. Calling it a robot is tenuous at best. He only ever sent me a drawing of it.

2) Some robots I got were either too heavy or too good and I did not get suitable replacements in time. So I took it upon myself to alter these robots and make them worse/lighter for the tournament. You can tell the robots I changed by the star on their splash. This is all a bit of fun so I presumed no one would really mind much.

Disclaimer: Reier said I could do it.

Building Rules:
-Stock MW-ish (450 kg, you had no idea what a weightclass was back then)
-No BFE/AAM/Hax
-All in game glitches allowed.
-All robots must show controlled movement.
-No Cheap Norris style robots (Venko get out of my head you still haunt my dreams)
-No clusterbots.
-I can AI, but I reserve the right to ask you to AI if needed. All robots must be ai'd to drive towards to enemy robot.
-No cheatbot2 parts allowed.
-Smartzones will not count towards weight, please don't use them as ballast.

Additional Rules:
-Your robot must be something awful you made when you first started playing the game, ideally before you joined the forums.
-If you don't have the original around anymore, then you are welcome to make a replica of the old bot. Please make this replica as close to the old bot as possible, if it spammed pinks, or had backwards normals, then please recreate that.
-Robots that are too good will be rejected. Remember, you didn't know anything, you thought a bracket wedge would get under things. If it has any regard for DSA, or it spams weapons, then it will probably get rejected.
-It's supposed to be a bit of fun, remember that.

Tournament Format:
-32 Entrants
-First round is a 4 way rumble, with the top two robots from each bout advancing to a randomly drawn single elimination bracket, Bo1.
-The 16 robots that lose in the first round will be thrown into a randomly drawn single elimination Bo1 reverse bracket, where the loser advances, in order to find the worst robot.
-Each robot gets one free havok restart, after that any more havoks will result in disqualification.
-The arenas used will be the Metal Skull arena for the initial rumbles, The Octagon for the next rounds and finally Epic Showdown for the grand final.

Edit:
rule of thumb for NW4 (which was HWs) is if it could consistently beat emergency it was too good. just apply that to MW when you decide which one to send in. maybe boxer or something.

BY THE WAY EVERYONE WHO IS MAKING A NEW ROBOT FOR THIS:  in previous n00b warz it was illegal to submit bots that were not either the actual bot file of your old bot or an (attempted) exact replica you made of said bot. people that sent in just "lol random n00by bot i just made!!!" were rejected.
obviously conraaConraaa can do what he wants but those were the goals I had when i made the others. if this is your intention also conraaConraaa i'd make it explicitly clear to everyone to avoid confusion.

For reference, these were the entries for previous n00b warz - it does not contain the ones I rejected for being too good, you can extrapolate those based on the quality of these.

N00b Warz 1 Splash
N00b Warz 4 splash

@conraaConraaa i'm telling you this from experience that many many people do not get the point of this tournament and try to send in things with the intention to slaughter the opposition. it can get very tiring to reject submissions and it's definitely subjective, and i know that everyone was on a different level when they made said bot. I tried my best and I know some of the submissions I accepted were better than others, but keep in mind its all in the name of fun. nobody cares if you win n00b warz or if you get annihilated in the first 3 seconds.

have fun, go easy on conraaConraaa and just send in like the crappiest bot you have.

Remember that the whole point is you're supposed to send robots in from when you were young and n00by. So we can look back and laugh. If you're trying to push the envelope and send in something with the sole intention of winning then that really isn't cricket.

Tournament Archives / Pot Luck 2 *Stop cooking!*
« on: August 19, 2015, 06:25:45 AM »
*I've got my sh** together this one might actually happen I swear*

Pot Luck 2

Building Rules

-Ironforge HW.
-Standard building rules apply.
-The first 4 ballasts do no count towards your weight allowance.
-Multibots not allowed.
-No BFE/AAM/Voodoo allowed.
-Trov Glitch is allowed.
-I can AI if you really need me to, but i'd suggest doing it yourself if you can. I reserve the right to ask you to AI your own bot if I cannot AI it effectively.
-No cheatbot2.
-No narmour (If thats still possible in Ironforge I have no idea)
-Recoloured components are allowed, however you can not make them invisible.
-All robots must show controlled movement.

Tournament Rules

-16 bots, double elimination.
-The tournament will be randomly seeded.
-If byes are needed. Then the Trial of The Wealdstone Raider will determine who gets byes.
-Bots get one free Havok restart per match, if they Havok again the robot is disqualified.
-Arena will be the Keznorg IGC, hazards off.
-Matches will be 3 minutes long.
-I will not be entering.

The Shtick

-When signing up for Pot Luck 2, every entrant must declare a robot type to go in the "pot". This does not mean actually sending a robot of that type. You can choose the same robot type as someone else, however no one robot type can be nominated more than 3 times.

Example:
Quote
MikeNCR: Hi, I'd like to enter and I choose Rammer
090901: Hi, I'd like to enter and I choose Horizontal Spinner
THE MIGHTY NARYAR: I GRACE YOUR POXY TOURNAMENT WITH MY PRESENCE. I CHOOSE HAMMER. THE MANLIEST OF ROBOT TYPES. HEAR ME ROAR.
HurricaneAndrew: Is that a banhammer in your pocket or are you just happy to see me

You can only choose single robot types, that means no hybrids. You can also no be too specific. I.E. Rammer is fine. Flail Rammer is too specific. Shell Spinner is fine. Flail Shell Spinner is too specific. Horizontal Spinner is fine. Complex Horizontal Spinner too specific. etc

I reserve the right to refuse any given robot type. Gyro Drills, Crawlers, SnS and Trinity bots are banned.

-When every entrant has sent in a robot type, I will shuffle them and then redistribute them. You will have a month to actually build a robot of that type. Be warned there is always a chance you may end up with the robot type that you sent in.

-Anyone who fails to sign up in time may join the "Backup Brigade". In the event anyone in the main bracket does not send in a robot in time, a member of the backup brigade will have an extra week on top of the deadline to make a robot of that type. Backup Brigade members do not get a robot declaration. This is a good one if you like being a good Samaritan. You can signup for the backup brigade at any time during the month of building. Assignment of robots to the Backup Brigade works on first come first serve. So no making deals with entrants to take over their robots please.

But, before you enter. Think to yourself. "Do I have the time to build any robot type the GTM community could throw at me? If I get hampered with a bad robot type, am I willing to enter it anyway? Would I not moan to high heaven if I got a bad robot type? If something happens which means I can’t send a robot in, will I tell the host?” Please go through this mental checklist before entering.

I think I covered everything above. Comments? Did people like it the first time? Only real changes from the first tournament are the change of mod, removal of the multibot wildcard rule and removal of arena choice as I like the Keznorg IGC.

So apparently the hip new thing is to build in Ironforge. Which means I have to learn what all the good stuff is.

The last time I took a screenshot in this garage I think it was Voulez-Vous for Ironbot.

Not sure where I was going with this robot, I was just playing around with things and remembered an old robot I made. And my cop out excuse for the realism rule is the tribars could probably be timed to avoid each other.

DSL MW
No BFE/AAM/Radiation Exposure
Multibots are not allowed.
This is a DSL Standard tournament with the realistic rule enabled. (Not IRL, there's a difference. I shall be declining robots that are completely serious IRL. Jokebots, on the other hand, are acceptable.)
Narmour Be Gone shall be used
32 team double elimination bracket, with 3 matches per battle.
Each team gets two havok restarts per round, but if the same robot havoks again then they are removed from the match. If a team is DQ'd by havok they lose the match 3-0
All robots must show controlled movement.
No "Cheap Norris" style robots (Robots that have drive designed to be broken off and effectively turn into a crawler/bumbleball once that has happened.)
I can ai, but I reserve the right to ask you to AI it yourself.
All robots entered must not have been in any of my previous tournaments
No SNS/SNSNS/Sheck Spinners
Arena shall be the Keznorg IGC arena, with hazards off.

Teams are made up of 2 MW class robots.
You can enter in up to three teams. For two of these, you must be in a team with another, different member in both of the teams you enter. For the third, you can enter either on your own submitting two bots, or with another member, regardless of whether you've paired up with them already. This third team can only be submitted after submitting your two standard entries. If you're teaming up with someone else, they don't have to have made 2 teams already to count for your third team.
All robots must be unique to their team (Cannot be entered in more than one team) (I'm looking at you, SKBT.)
If there are any lone robots left over, if the other teammate didn't send their bot in or anything, then they shall be put into random teams. Any robots left over after this will be reskinned and shall pair up with itself.

As this seemed to be one of my more successful tournaments, I thought i'd bring it back. I plan on entering this one with yet another brilliant team, so be afraid.

My entries:

Signups:

1: Conraaa and Jack Daniels-Team Robotic Robots (Jack Daniels has sent nothing as of writing. If I still don't have a robot at the end of signups. Then I shall enter my robot twice.)

(The 090901 Rule) Every robot must pass a basic quality control. (Basically, no more EVIL GREEN BOX or Unf kthnx)

All robots must use the Batteries Included custom components (Available here) for all their Control board, Power, and Airtank needs. At 0.1kg and a heck of a lot of power each, they should suffice. This should free up weight so you can spend it on fun things, like more weapons.

Every entrant can enter 2 robots; one in the main bracket, and one in the Backup Brigade. If at the end of the signup period there are still empty spaces in the main bracket, then the robots in the backup brigade shall fight a series of rumbles/1v1 matches to see who gets into the main bracket.

Off-Topic Discussion / Rate Your Advent Calender So Far 2012
« on: December 14, 2012, 12:48:05 PM »
It's simple, rate your advent calender so far.

I'll start

Spiderman Advent Calender-Poundland (Probably, I didn't buy it.)

I had a bit of a delayed start, on November the 30th I had a shedload of confectionary and was puking for December 1st (Lightweight, I know, could very well have been the KFC though) and didn't feel like eating much until December 6th. However when I did start, half the chocolates weren't in their little places, meaning a quick opening of some doors pematurely to rectify that. The chocolate's a bit crap and I wouldn't really want to eat more than one square a day. 1/5 wouldn't buy again.

Right, bit of a mix up here, guys:

-You can now enter the same weightclass twice; they just have to be different bots.
-You can now enter the same bots in the Single and Tag Team Brackets; just holler who is in which team.

If there is still spaces for the MW Tag Team I'll randomize whichever MW Bots that aren't in the bracket and make them into teams. Giving priority to robots by builders who don't have robots in the tag team bracket/

(Kill said it was fine for me to do this a while ago, thanks Kill!)

Building Rules:
-DSL BW, MW, HW and MW clusterduck tag team special (See Below)
-Realisitic Rule enabled
-Nothing from the weapons tab allowed. Apart from DSL bars which I shall modify to deal no damage.
-No BFE/AAM/Witchcraft/Doping. Anything that can be done in game and still fit with the realisitic rule is fine.
-No cheatbot2 allowed
-Narmour Be Gone Enabled.
-There aren't any banned robot types for this one (No banned types in one of my tourneys? Madness). But all I ask is that every bot must be able to show some form of controlled movement.
-Original and puntastic names are not only allowed, but strongly encouraged.
-No Multibots

BW/MW/HW Brackets:
-16 entry spots per weight class.
-1v1 double elimination bracket and possibly a single elimination rumble bracket with 4 bot matches and one winner per match if I feel like it.
-If there is less than 5 entrants in a weightclass then it shall run in a round robin format.
-Arena will be a modified ring arena with no walls.
-Loser will be the first robot to leave the arena edge, as judged by me. If it's close i'll rerun the round.
-Best out of 3 matches.
-Matches are 1 minute each. If any match ends in a draw, I shall judge which robot performed better personally. If I can't call it then I shall just go "screw it" and refilm.
-If you somehow manage to win a match in a round by KO then you are disqualified from the tournament but you get the honourary "How the heck did I manage that" award.
-In the event of a havok each bot gets one free restart per match. Any havoks after that and they are dq'd and forfeit the match.

MW clusterduck tag team special:
-8 teams, double elimination.
-Rounds are best out of 3 matches.
-Teams must have a theme.
-The team to have both bots off the arena first loses. As judged by me.
-Teams have to be made up of 2 different users. I can start a lonely hearts club for this if need be.
-Matches are 1 minute. Matches are won by either both of the opposing robots being pushed off first, or having the most robots on the arena at the end of the minute. If any match ends in a draw (Same amount of robots on the arena at the end of the match), I shall judge which team performed better personally. If I can't call it then I shall just go "screw it" and refilm.
-The same bot cannot be entered into both the single and tag team brackets.
-In the event of a havok each team gets one free restart per match. Any havoks after that and they are dq'd and forfeit the match.

A fun game, basically, you have a hand of White cards and you need to choose one to compliment the Black card on the table. The "Card Czar" for that turn then chooses the best.

Example:

Black Card: What Gives You Endless Gas?

White Cards:

1) Pork and Beans
2) Ronald Regan
3) The Hardworking Mexican
4) Auschwitz

The Card Czar then chooses 4) and the person who chose 4) gets an awesome point. (Really)

There's an online version here

Anyone fancy a game?

DSL HW
No AAM/BFE/Hax Mode/Performance Enhancing Drugs/Severe Gamma Radiation Exposure.
Arena is a modified Ring Arena with higher walls.
Realistic Rule Enabled.
Multibots Not Allowed.
SNS Banned. They can go play in traffic for all I care. SS are banned as well.
Initially, Matches are 1 minute each.
Each bot allowed one havok restart per match, after that they are removed from the match and lose one life (See below).
Bots can be upgraded right up until the deadline is reached.
No limit on entries. Everyone can enter one bot.
Narmour-Be-Gone enabled, so don't even try it.

Now, here is the fun part:
-After the deadline has passed and people have entered their robots, I shall pick two captains and two vice captains, the remaining participants shall be split into two "tribes". The captain's job is to the sort out their respective small armies into groups of two before each round starts. Everyone has the option to opt out of being a captain.
-Each team from one tribe shall then fight a team in the other tribe for a minute in a tag team match. If they get flipped out, or immobilized? They survive to fight another day. If they get eliminated via control board destruction? They then lose a "life".
-Each robot has two "lives" each. If they lose all of their lives then they are eliminated. Surviving robots after each round then get rearranged into new partnerships by the captains if need be, rinse and repeat. Each captain has 3 days to do this, if I don't hear from the cap'n in this time I shall then ask the Vice Captain for selections. If I still don't hear anything I shall randomize any teams in the tribe that have "orphaned" robots (Bots that have lost their teammate) for that round and find another captain/vice captain for the next round.
-If there are disproportionate numbers of surviving robots in the tribes (Example: 8 robots in one tribe and 10 robots in another), then the captains shall also choose which robots are to "sit out" if need be.
-If there are two consecutive rounds with no control board destruction the time limit shall be raised from 1 minute to 2 minutes. If this occurs again then the time limit shall be increased to 3 minutes. After yet another round, then OOTA's and Immobilisation's shall deduct one life from the respective robot.
Basically:
-1st round w/o immobilisation's: 1 Minute.
-2nd round w/o immobilisation's: 1 Minute.
-3rd round w/o immobilisation's: 2 Minutes.
-4th round w/o immobilisation's: 3 Minutes.
-5th round w/o immobilisation's: 3 Minutes, OOTA's and Immobilisation's minus one life each.

-A Tribe wins once it eliminates the other tribe fully.
-This shall be my entry:

-Conraaa: Opt Out of Captaincy
