General Support / RA2 Crashing my Internet?!
« on: February 24, 2016, 06:03:26 AM »
Hey guys, so for those of you who don't know, part of the reason behind my lengthy absence was the fact that the charger pin in my laptop has been a nightmare, repeatedly breaking despite various attempts to repair it.

Basically my laptop is nearing its last legs, so i've not used it much in my new accommodation much (uni w00p), but now that its semi-reliable and i've been playing RA2 again, i've noticed that when I do my internet always seems to fail, usually within 20 minutes of game play. This is extra annoying since my laptop often freezes up when I then attempt to reconnect, which is fun, meaning that at the moment my best solution is to reboot.

So yeah, pretty bizzare problem, my internet is pretty meh, but I'm fairly certain RA2 is the cause. Anyone got a clue how or why?

Anyway, say hi to Jawz:

Discussion / How does "air" consumption work?
« on: August 15, 2011, 11:14:31 AM »
I'm working on a bot in stock that uses pistons when I realised, I have no idea how much air is needed to power one piston, or whether a large air tank is worth using in the first place, or even the difference between servo and burst pistons when it comes to their air consumption.

So does anybody know how it actually works?

Discussion / Your favourite DSL builder ATM
« on: August 12, 2011, 03:03:32 PM »
Since everybody (including me) wanted one but nobody seemed to be making one...

A lot of options there, i've got 5 options as the maximum you can pick on here, simply because there are a lot more options (a lot more viable options) than in stock IMO.

Discussion / Snapper 2 Flipper Glitch?
« on: July 10, 2011, 08:21:47 PM »
I was just randomly looking through the wiki a bit, when on Technex's (an old RA2 plaer obviously) page, I found this:

"and also invented a peculiar Snapper II placement which produced roof-level flips at low voltage, but also needed more weight than the standard rupt"

I've never heard of that, and the only post I could find refering to it was Infiniteinertia saying briefly that the "glitch" was a fake.

Anybody know anything more about this glitch?

General Support / Arena compiling Problems
« on: February 27, 2011, 08:23:33 AM »
Well....this is....interesting, o.k as click said, the cc3 arena has startpoints that mean big bots get stuck in the floor.
I followed JB's tutorial (in his arena's thread) to fixxx this, or so I thought, while the startpoints seem to be fixxxed now, the arena's pitch black.
Yeah, bot's still fight fine, but you can't see anything other than the bots, everything else is black.
I've used dummy's compiler, and serge's compiler, but neither of them have worked, and all i've done is edit the startpoints with the use of serge's decompiler, basically, i am majorly confused.

Rules
- The weight class is going to be DSL 2.1 HW
- cheatbot2, custom and AI components are NOT allowed, neither are BFE or AAM.
- DSL realistic rules apply (so yeah you can push it a bit, not too much though)
- One havok restart for each bot, if a bot havoks twice it forfeits the match
- Multibots aren't allowed either
- Bots entered MUST be a spinner, (e.g shell, face, horizontal, vertical, drum, juggler, full body)
- SnS are only allowed if they are a hybrid between SnS and another spinner type (e.g SnS/HS hybrid)
- No hybrids are allowed either unless the bot types mixed are spinners.
- No flails either, sorry but I don't want the havok or the laggy mess.
- Bots are also not allowed component wedges.
Component wedge = anywedge that's mounted on another component, so no mako, skirt, metal hinge or MCB wedge.
Basically the only kind of wedge i'm allowing is a chassis wedge, because they're useless.
- 3 minute long matches ofcourse, and 16 overall entrants
- I can AI if needs be, but i'd recomend if you can you do it yourself.

Arena
.

Brackets
The brackets are going to be 4 4 way battle royals with the last 2 survivors going through where they'll face a bot from the next 4 way bracket in a deathmatch and then on it stays to a traditional single elimination, deathmatch set up BUT with a 3rd place playoff aswell as the final.

Which bots will face which in the second round are gonna be decided on points (i.e the surviving bot with the least points in bracket 1 faces the surviving bot with the most in bracket 2 and vice versa, the same applies to bracket 3 and 4).

Entries

1) Marty Midget
2) Craaig
3) Hard bot

15) S_M
16) 090901

Green text = Bot received, AI'd and ready to go
Black text = Bot recieved, but not AI'd

Well, there ya go, signups will close when all the bots are approved.
Now cue JB saying these rules can't be changed...

Rules:
Nar AI HW
Best out of 3
Any bot you have created or you can create a new one, however it must be a hybrid type of bot.
Matches in normal Combat Arena with hazards off, 3 minutes
Bots are AI'ed by their creators preferably, however if you can convince someone to AI your bot then fine.

General Support / Randomly Crashing
« on: December 22, 2010, 10:06:25 AM »
I have a feeling that I've read somewhere that this is just unavoidable and that you have to just accept it, but on my DSL the game will sometimes crash, mainly when picking bots on exhibition mode.
It happens on all my DSL's, and usually it isn't too bad, but it just did it 3 times in a row, so I'd like to know if there's a fix for it.

General Support / Snapper reseting
« on: November 22, 2010, 02:19:04 PM »
O.k, so there may be a perfectly reasonable explanation for this and a perfictly easy fix, but why do my snappers keep messing up now when I go out of the botlab?
I spent ages making this bot and doing the loading things so that the motors intersected each other and were rotated so they were even and inside my bot fine, I test the bot, realise that it's actually not too unstable (yay) and then go back in my botlab to see that the motors are at weird angles and not aligned anymore.

Sorry if it sounds like i'm ranting, I spent a surprising amount of time tweaking this bot and had high hopes for it, so i'm going to be a little bit mad if I can't get it working properly...

Discussion / Flame and damage?
« on: November 09, 2010, 10:04:43 AM »
Here's what I want to know.
I've been beavering away on getting know how files and stuff work on RA2 a bit better, and I can see how you caan turn a component into a flamethrower, but is it possible to make a weapon a flamethrower aswell, so it does damage as usual but also shoots damaging fire?

General Support / Where on earth is the flamethrower.txt???!??
« on: November 08, 2010, 02:38:29 PM »
Well i'm trying to work on the prize for total carnage and I need to get into the flamethrower txt file to see what makes it tick and maybe "borrow" a bit of code from it, but it doesn't seem to be in the components folder at all
Does anybody know where it is?

Tournament Archives / Total Carnage
« on: November 04, 2010, 06:13:04 PM »
Well heres an idea i've thought about for a while, and I think i'm able to host a successful tourney now (or I hope atleast  :laughing )

Now for the interesting parts

The brackets are going to be 4 4 way battle royals with the last 2 survivors going through where they'll face a bot from the next 4 way bracket in a deathmatch and then on it stays to a traditional deathmatch set up with a 3rd place playoff aswell as the final.

Whic bots will face which in the second round are gonna be decided on points (i.e the surviving bot with the least points in bracket 1 faces the surviving bot with the most in bracket 2 and vice versa)

The bots entered MUST be a spinner, i.e shell, face, horizontal, vertical, drum, juggler, full body
SnS are only allowed if they are a hybrid between SnS and another spinner type (e.g SnS face hybrid)
Bots are also not allowed component wedges.
Component wedge = anywedge that's mounted on another component.
So no mako, skirt, metal hinge or MCB wedge(whatever that is).
Basically the only kind of wedge i'm allowing is a chassis wedge, because they're useless.

No hybrids are allowed either unless the bot types mixed are spinners.
No flails either, sorry but I don't want the havok mess.

The matches are going to be in a skinned CC one qualifying arena which you can see here
.

I can AI if needs be, but i'd recomend that you do it yourself if you can.
The prize is simply going to be the skin, and ofcourse bragging rights

Stock Showcases / Scorpion: A Stock Showcase
« on: October 17, 2010, 07:53:04 AM »
I thought i'd dust off my stock since I haven't been on it in a long while.
Now behold, a sadly generic middleweight:

DSA armour ofcourse, the wedge rupts most of the time, but not all of the time for some reason.

Modifications / Really powerfull servos
« on: October 13, 2010, 11:10:41 AM »
Has anyone ever made one of these?
If so, do they then just turn into normal motors due to the speed?

Basically, i want to know if you can mod a servo so it can act as a proper lifter or crusher (like panic attacks lifting spikes or razers crusher, fully controllable but strong enough to be effective).

Real Robotics Discussion / Team something or other robotics
« on: October 12, 2010, 02:13:30 PM »
Well me and a few chums have decided to try and build a real robot.

We've got a design for a small 4WD wedge shaped bot (think storm 2 from newblood) with 3 holes to fit 3 angled, pneumatic spikes (kind of a small piston popup design) to be fired out when the bot's underneath the other bot.

Any help or advice would be VERY handy, e.g part advice, buying places advice, whether the designs even possible advice.

Oh, and we'd probably want it to be at the most a lightweight.
