Discussion / Your UI?
« on: August 11, 2010, 06:18:30 PM »
I've been through several people's showcase and saw some custom UI *cough*Jonzu*cough*. I myself is still using the default UI from Nar AI, but I am making one of my own. So show off your own UI here.

Chatterbox / In the future.....

So I have my hand really tied up here in GTM, but I won't be as active until summer. This thread is just a little heads up what I'll be doing when I'm away and what projects I was doing here.

1. BOTB Tournament: Things have been slowed down tremendously. Currently, I am working on it, and hopefully it can start off again in the summer.

2. NAR AI: I want to update my first team, send that AW poker, and finish my second team. This is postponed for later and I wish I just have more time in a day.

3. Badnik's Fantasy Battlebots thing: Well this is well........unfinished, and probably, never finished by me, with the projects above me and school, I don't think I can do it.

Sorry

Yes that science show, I have been a fan for a while....like 4-5 years. Mythbusters is also really inconsistent when releasing episodes and seasons, because the tests last pretty long.

Alright I know, the last tournament wasn't really popular, but I'm going simple on this one. 4 people only (might be 8) because I want to test S32's bracket (I think it's more of a league).

Rules:
1. Bots must be DSL
2. No tampering with the bot file except ingame
3. Weightclass is heavyweight
4. Custom py.s must be fair and not uber power the bot (MAD)
5. Realistic
6. No unrealistic glitches
7. Parts are from DSL 2.1 only

Modifications / Builder's Helper Ideas and Discussion
« on: October 23, 2009, 08:54:16 PM »
Well when I was starting the game I didn't know how to do shhhh.... crap. Only way I learned was facing harder AI (and getting advice), but I notice that when I play with a bot that matches the level of the AI I learn each time I build because I refernce from the other bot.
So I want to create a team pack(s) to replace your older bots to fit the AI, for beginners, like stock has its own team it came with, but not Starcore. I don't want this to be a pack that can beat everything, but to start the person to build similar bots. And every bot pack has a specific function to help build better listed here:

RFS AI: Learn how to use wedges
Starcore 1: Effeing and useful weapons
Starcore 2: A variety of more bots
Starcore 3: Snapper Loading
Pys AI: Advance Snapper Loading and Stacking
Starcore 4: Sub-weight classes and effective type of bots.

At first I just want to make this to replace The Rookies, but the builder might need a little more push, so 5 teams on each pack would be nice. Give me feedback and more ideas.

I guess it would be fun to make a community youtube account. The individual accounts can stay and post their tourneys, but big things like ummmm.....stuff can be put on there.

Real Robotics Discussion / Getting Drums
« on: September 14, 2009, 06:04:36 PM »
People have been asking where to get drums, in several of the competition I went to. After you read this you should spread this around.

Really anything circular can be turned into a drum. I have seen hobbyweights using the Aluminum bottles, or MWs or HWs using gas tanks. To add bumps to your drums. For smaller drums you could put studs and screws. Bigger bots have more variety, so be creative.

I hope this helps you on the journey of building a drum bot.

Tournament Archives / RPG Tourney
« on: July 25, 2009, 01:05:05 AM »
RPG Tourney (well more like a league) Plans
There are 3 classes: Mage (Spinners), Warrior (Static), and Rangers (Burst).
Mages:
HS
VS
Sheck Spinners
Jugglers
TS
SNS(yes I consider them spinners (AW only))

Warriors:
Rammers
SNS (BW and beyond)

Rangers:
Hammers
Pokers
Popups
Flippers

I need bot builders to aid me to build enemies and bosses. You should PM me what type (as in what enviroment it thrives in), if its an enemy or boss, and the weightclass.
Hell-AW BW LW
Heaven-AW MW SHW
Graveyard-AW BW LW MW HW SHW
Forest-AW BW SHW
Grassland-LW
Desert-HW SHW
Sky-(None)
Electric-MW HW SHW
Earth-(None)
Toxic-(None)
Robotic-(None)
Mountain -AW BW LW MW HW SHW

I am still working on the map, but I have to ask you guys how long do you want it to be, remember, the longer it is, the harder the game.
In this tournament I am not doing a splash, however I am gonna to do a video. Well you have heard a picture says a 1000 words, but a video is a 1000 pictures.
Since I will need 6 bots from everyone and 6 bots equals one team, so you (optional) can send in a team name and team quote. As for the logos, I might just put your avatar (if you don’t have one, I will just type your name.
Since I will already have teams, I will release them as an AI pack.

Story (To get you inspired)
You are a bot from a high tech village. You have ton of weapons to choose from. The enemies are ehhhhhh ‘ruthless’. Choose your path level up or defeat all the bosses. This is RPG Tourney : The Mechanical Duels.

It’s a league sort of like a tourney, but since my laptop is out this won’t come out until it’s fixed so lets just plan it. It will be DSL. To gain levels (levels is just the different weight classes starting with AW all the way to SHW). So you could send all 6 weight classes at once and I'll switch them when they level up.

Advancing Levels

AW to BW takes 12 exp.
BW to LW takes 18 exp.
LW to MW takes 20 exp.
MW to HW takes 24 exp.
HW to SHW takes 32 exp.

Gaining Exp.

Each enemy I make has a set amount of exp. AW enemies give 2 exp. each, BW=3 exp, LW, MW, HW, SHW=4 exp. Beating a boss gives you the enemies exp. + 5, but be warned bosses can cheat.

TWIST, starting at LW you can fight each other. You have 3 lives die 3 times and your out. Defeating a fellow competitor gives you 5 exp. In order to gain the exp. you have to make the last contact to opponent to gain the points.

As for videos, The event will be devided into days, I have Fraps but depending on how many people are in the tourney the vids might be split in parts are only show highlights.

The Map: A vast world folds in front of you. Get to the end of the map to win. Get to a certain square and face a boss. Each day the competitors can move 1 square. The map is split into several regions from the icy tundra to the forest.

Art
I could use a league chart and someone to make a splash (or teach me how to make a decent one).
