Real Robotics Discussion / Robotic Combat?

When is this new robot combat series/ show supposed to air? I heard something about it a while ago, but nothing more.

Discussion / TOURNAMENT AGOD SUGGESTION
« on: June 21, 2009, 11:26:31 PM »
Alright, as most of you probably know I had a working agod solution for a while there but then (unfortunately) forgot a few of the key steps in doing so.

However, there are a few other quirks of using the pause button that might be of use in AI tournaments.

On local single player matches(matches that do not use LAN/INTERNET) if you pause before you start the round, the round will load instantly and all the bounding boxes will be aligned perfectly with their components, and then you can unpause and the start the fight..

This means that, even if your parts don't line up perfectly in the garage, if you pause before matches and unpause after the match begins your parts will be aligned perfectly.

If pausing before matches became a new tournament standard, I think it would save a lot of headaches for those who have had no luck aligning their bots, yet still want to compete.

Poor programming and faulty game design shouldn't be part of what makes a good bot, so I don't think it would necessarily be unfair to those who have aligned their bot perfectly by themselves.

Just a thought.

OH AND FOR FUTURE REFERENCE I AM REPOSTING THIS BECAUSE MY OTHER THREAD WAS CLOSED, I FIGURED "TOURNAMENT" SUGGESTIONS BELONGED IN THE TOURNAMENT AND CONTESTS BOARD, MY BAD GUYS!!!

Discussion / Absolute Chaos vs. Tankcat results
« on: June 19, 2009, 09:54:30 PM »
Earlier in the week, Infiniteintertia revealed to me in HurricaneAndrew's showcase that he had indeed beaten tankcat. I'm curious to see the results behind this "victory". Also, after checking the bot sage so gratefully AI'd for me, it appears that in doing so my maces had become completely imbalanced, which may have been a deciding factor. Just my two cents.

tl;dr: Can I see the results to tankcat's defeat?

I have found a solution to getting maces to line up perfectly after effeing them, or rather any component that might not line up during effeing. I stumbled upon this glitch while using the pause button to see what effects it had in all sorts of situations. Here are the results of standard effeing, compared to using the pause glitch to effe the maces:

STANDARD EFFEING:

Almost none of the maces are lined up properly.

PAUSE EFFEING:

All of the maces are lined up perfectly.

I've tested this glitch multiple times with different bots and it works every time. Here is how to do it:

1. After you are done placing your maces using the effe glitch, pause before you go to garage. (make sure f12 isn't enabled)

2. After you go to garage, go back to components without unpausing.

3. Unpause the game, and press f12, spin up your motors, etc... The maces should be aligned perfectly.

4. For every new set of maces you want to add, repeat step 1.

5. When all of your maces are added, exit the bot editor.

7. Unpause the game, and try loading your bot. It might take a while to load, depending on the bot.

*This glitch will NOT work to re-align maces that have already been added previously. They will appear to be aligned, then reset to their original positions once you load without pause. To make the glitch work, you have to do it by adding new maces.

**Also, for those of you who are tired of waiting 2-3 minutes to go from garage and back or to load your bot in the first place, press pause before doing either. With pause on, it literally takes 2-5 seconds and then you can simply unpause after coming to the desired screen.

Stock Showcases / Tankcat's showcase
« on: May 03, 2009, 09:46:28 PM »
Thought I might as well make a showcase.

Here are some shots of the first bot I ever built 5 weeks ago, my original HS Tankcat:

27 Triple stacked razors, 3 hpz weapon motors, 2 black batteries and an hpz drive. I think it was pretty good for my first attempt at ever building something.

Finally, after browsing the forums for a few weeks and finding some building tricks out on my own, I came up with my second bot. My new and improved 36 mace HS Tankcat:

36 Triple stacked maces, 4hpz weapon motors, 2 black batteries and an hpz drive.

EDIT: Here is tankcat from another angle, showing all 4 tribars:

Discussion / Challenging absolute chaos to a match

I challenge absolute chaos to a match with my new bot, tankcat.

dsa armor, hpztek drive, 2 blacks, 27 maces and 9 razors right now, might change to 36 maces.

EDIT: 9 blades, my bad.

Discussion / how to fix effeing collision boxes
« on: April 26, 2009, 12:32:10 AM »
Alright, I've tried effeing my own maces on my horizontal spinner and the collision boxes never match up. (I'm realize I could switch to other weapons, but I'm going to use maces. If absolute chaos could be balanced with it's 36 maces then so can my bot) are there any specific techniques people use to make the collision boxes line up? The only time I've actually been successful are a few flukes where the game crashed and they were magically lined up when I checked to see the damage.

Discussion / building a bot using a new technique
« on: April 23, 2009, 04:27:36 AM »
I've been building this bot using a technique to stack burst motor axles over each other, as well as connecting hp-zteks directly to the burst motor opening up another layer for stacking weapons on the tribar extender. I have attached the results so far, I plan to rebuild it using a more compressed chassis.

Picture 1 from the left shows the four motors swung outward, just to clarify that there are four motors.

Picture 2 shows all of the motors stacked in the center. You can tell how compressed this is compared to other HS setups.

Picture 3 shows the motors with tribars and hammers, extremely easy to center using this building method as well.

Picture 4 is me using the effeing glitch to stack 6 maces on a single arm. This is possible because of the extra layer opened up from not using an extender on the burst motor.

Picture 5 is to show the end result, I think it comes out nicely. I'm not sure of the application of 6 maces per arm, but you could make a starcore worthy SHW HS.

I thought this set up was especially unique in the way that it is so compact, it allows me enough weight to add another motor with triple stacked weapons on the tribars.

If things go as planned, this set up will come down to 4 hp-zteks with 9 maces on each tribar, giving a grand total of 36 maces at just under 800 pounds. I'll update this later as I progress on the bot.
