Hey guys! I know I haven't been around lately... The good news is that I quit my second job. So, I have a little extra time on my hands. The bad news is that I am now back in college trying to finish my degree. So, I am still kind of busy. But, I still <3 and miss you all! I hope to get back into bot building again.
Anyways, more to the point of this topic. I have to do a survey for my class and I think you all would make excellent guinea pigs lab rats respondents for my questionnaire.
If you got a minute, please fill out my survey. If I get more than ten respondents on this forum I will have a raffle and give away a $15 iTunes credit to one of you.
(I will activate a gift card and e-mail the code to the winner).
The Questionnaire is related to gaming consoles. Your input is valuable to a study that I have to write a paper for.

1. Are you looking to purchase a new gaming console in the next year?
2. Do you typically purchase gaming consoles from a store or online?
3. Do you consider yourself loyal to a certain brand? If Yes, which brand are you loyal to?
4. Do online reviews affect your purchasing decisions for consoles?
5. Do advertisements affect your purchasing decisions for consoles?
The following questions can be answered on a number scale.
1= not important
2= somewhat important
3= important
4= very Important
5= Absolutely Essential
6. How does the price factor into your decision to purchase a new Console? 1-5
7. When a new console is released to the market, there are "Launch" games that are available at that time. How important is this to you? 1-5
8. How important is the availability of certain "franchises" with your console purchase? (eg: Halo with X-Box, Mario with Nintendo, Gran Turismo with Sony, etc.) 1-5

Let's face it. The current tournament discipline system is ineffective.
Can't finish a tournament? Everyone nags until the excitement of the event fades away... and then... the host is punished with "You are banned from hosting tournaments for such and such amount of time".
Well, banning a person from doing tournaments for not finishing tournaments really doesn't effect them at all. If they didn't want to finish their tourney, they wont care about being banned.
The unfortunate victims of the situations are the bot-builders themselves. It ends up being a waste of time and competitive hopes are dashed. In my opinion it really wrecks the building "morale" of the forums.
How about this for an idea... Since there really isn't an effective punishment for deadbeat hosts, let's further reward the hosts who do succeed. I propose the following incentives for successful tournament hosts:
-Special Forum Username color for completing 3 or 5 tournaments. I think forest Green would be pretty awesome. Would correspond with the "Green Tick" tournament approval.
-Special Forum title. Like "roboteer"... I dunno... "Epic Tourney Host" or "Tournament Pro". Something like that.
-Complete 10+ tournaments and you earn rank to co-moderate the tournament section of the forum.
You lose all your perks if you fail to complete a tourney. Sorry... go back to Start... do not collect $200.
I think it should be an achievement to complete 5 tournaments successfully and I think we should stress the importance of how awesome it is when people successfully host.
I don't know about you guys... but it really blows my motivation when I enter a tourney and get my hopes up only to see it fade away forgotten.
Also, no retro-active completed tournament credits. Sorry, we should just start at square one (except for those already on the banned list) and earn our way there.
The tournament hosting portion of this forum really needs a shot in the arm. Good hosts should be rewarded somehow so that they are motivated to host more and people can learn from their example. Anyone else have any ideas for how we can show hosts some love?

Heh, my topic headline makes me look like a Spambot.
I just wanted to spread the word that 6 UFC fights will be streaming for free via Facebook today in London.
Amazingly, the facebook stream is quite good. Good quality and decent buffering capabilities. Fights start a 12:15 PM EST.
Log into facebook. Like UFC. Click on the box that says Live Streams. Click on the little box that says "go Live" and then wait. Eventually when it's ready there will be live content kicking in. (pun intended)

So, I was at a Family Dollar store shopping for cat food the other day and spotted an interesting box on their electronics shelf behind the counter. It had a SEGA logo and pictures of Sonic all over it. Curious, I checked it out and found that Family Dollar is selling SEGA authorized mini consoles that come pre-loaded with a ton of the classic games.  Sonic 1, 2, Sonic Spinball, Ecco, Golden Axe, Shinobi, etc etc. Not only does the console have two wireless controllers (RF though) it also has controller ports for classic controllers if you have them. It also has a cartridge slot for the old games as well! All for a measly $40. Thinking about picking one up for myself because I need a Sonic fix and I've also wanted to play Shadowrun again (doesn't come with it though... will have to get that game on eBay.) There isn't a lot of info about the console online because I don't think most people know it exists and is sold at Family Dollar. Just giving you gamers a heads up! Edit: Couldn't resist... ordered Shadowrun via eBay... Gonna pick this console up today and save it for x-mas. :3

When you attempt to add a facebook link to your profile it asks for the entire URL. Well the box cannot handle the entire URL.
As a result, it looks like everyones facebook link under their name is broken.

Gametechmods is more than a forum centric to Robot Arena 2 and Robot Combat. It is a community first and foremost. You are all awesome people with your quirks. Your positives and negatives that make us all human in the first place.
Been rockin' here since '07. Not planning on leaving anytime soon.

While I admire his sense of business... it does seem a bit pricey for a mini-battlebot that consists of less than ten lego (& requires a bit of imagination to see the resemblance) I find it fascinating that someone would go through all the trouble to build and package such toys after all these years. Discuss.

BOTM participation has gone downhill. I am curious as to why. There are plenty of active builders in the community. Some of the big guns like Joe, Sage, and Click have been absent from BOTM for a while. I am really surprised that others have not jumped at the opportunity to win. It seems like it coincides with the increase in IRL building that the community is enjoying. I would like to know your feelings on the subject. Please take a moment to answer the poll with any of the choices that are relevant to you. Thanks.

I am feeling rather ambitious for this upcoming winter... Have to admit, seeing all of you build bots and compete is contagious.
Currently, I do not have a gameplan. I need help finding out which competitions I can enter in the New York / Boston area of the United States and which weight class would work out for me.
If anyone can provide links to websites that would have rules and info for competitions around here that would be pretty awesome. I might be willing to drive out to Philly, but that is kinda a stretch...

I don't think TRIAS is going to have much luck getting his tourney up and running. HA and JD are going to face off with their "Bring your A game" entries. Click Spoiler for original rules with "BYAG". 1: DSL HW2: No cheatbot23: No BFE or AAM
4: Four Pools, with 4 bots. Everyone will have at least 3 matches.
5: Matches will be 2 minutes long. Matches will go for the full 3 minutes.
6: If time expires, winner will be decided on points.7: Realistic Rule applies, but not IRL.8: Multibots are allowed, but may not weigh more than 400 kilos per bot.9: Walkers are not allowed.
10: Bye bot will be M.O.E.
11: You will receive 3 points for a KO, 2 for a WBP, 1 for a loss and 0 for a DQ.
12: In case of tie, Sudden Death will take place, where there will be NO TIME LIMIT and will only end when one bot wins.
13: Glitches are allowed if they are realistic.
14: If a bot havoks once, the match will be restarted, if it does it again it will recieve 0 points or be eliminated in later stages and 3 points will be given to the opponent.
15: I can AI, but PLEASE do it yourself, as I am a complete novice at the art.
16: The fun stuff: Your robot MUST be centered around a video game. It can be Duke Nukem, Space Invaders, Modern Warfare 3, WHATEVER GAME YOU WANT. However, only 1 person may use a game. For example, No Two Team Fortress 2 bots.
17: I'll need help making a splash.
18: 2 robots will go through from one pool. The winner of Pool A will face the Runner Up of Pool B, The Winner of Pool B will face the runner up of A, The Winner of C will face the Runner Up of D and the Winner of D will face the runner up of C. Then, winner of Fight 1 will fight winner of Fight 3 and winner of Fight 2 will fight winner of fight 4. Then the final19: There will be rumbles at the end, each pool of bots will fight each other in a 4 way match and the winners in another 4 way match to find the Rumble Champion.20: If you want, a Champion of Champions match will be set up for the Rumble Champ and the Official Champ.

Now, the star rating from users isn't very high for this DVD, but it's combat robotics I will take anything. It just came in the mail today. I hope to watch it later this evening... (or some of it. It is over 2 hours long!) Report on it to come later. :D

I was building a bot today and I attached a smartzone near the front of the bot. Then I was trying to put a beater bar on the front but I accidentally attached it to some mysterious attachment point inside the smartzone. Now I can't get it out because when I try to click on it all i get is the surrounding smart zone. pic:  Anyone have any ideas how I can get that beater bar out? If I have to Bot file edit... what do I look for? What program to I have to use in order to BFE? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Only robot wars replicas. 4. Some BFE allowed (chassis height and shape, but it has to be like the real thing) 5. No AAM, Zero G or Narmour. 6. No stacking batteries, control boards or air tanks. 7. All other glitches are allowed. 8. No metal hinge wedges. 9. Skinning is allowed but you have to send (the host) the parts for it to work. 10. No multibots. 11. Cheatbot2 is allowed. 12. Custom components ARE allowed but they are not allowed to be overpowered and you HAVE to send them to me with the bot. Overpowered components will be disqualified. (this is at my discretion alone) Arena will be the RAT2#2 Tournament arena Best 2 out of 3 matches. Dragonfire is our first choice for host. You up for the task sir? Splash to come soon... Hey Guys, I am thinking about selling my entire Sega Dreamcast Collection on eBay.
Two consoles: (One works fine, other is for parts because the controller ports are broken)
Four Controllers and One Fishing Rod Controller
All necessary cables for hookup.
appx 100 games (all burned ROMs that were downloaded online and a couple of Nintendo Classics discs with 100+ games loaded)
Couple of memory cards for savegames.
Original Box with paperwork and instructions.
I can't post the games on ebay because it is illegal to sell copies on there.
Anybody need any parts? Controllers? Specific games? etc etc before I put the whole collection up on Ebay?
