Existing Games / Space Engineers (Robot Fighting)
« on: May 05, 2018, 02:31:10 PM »
I looked around and didn't see anything about Space Engineers when it came to bot fighting so I thought I'd post here to let you all know it exists.

Here's the arena I've made which allows even distribution of components to all players. These are used to build parts for the vehicle. The vehicles are ground bases and remote controlled, requiring a battery, antenna, and remote control block. The game has rotors and pistons for melee weapons. I've not added any components that allow for ranged weapons, so classic style bots should be common.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1361454427

The part distribution amount might be complicated for first time users. Space Engineers takes a bit of learning, but I thought it'd be fun to gather people for an actual multiplayer event.

it has a huge chassis and lots of armor. i also feel that if you're going to make it a VS/rammer like that, you need all your spikes in front.

seems like you'd be better with more weapon weight as well.

also pole spikes are meh.

The spikes are pretty meh and just there for stability :P Is that really too much armor? What do you usually stick around?

In excitement for Robot Arena 3 I've made a new robot to share.

It's design is based off ripping and flipping. Tearing into a robot, or it's parts, while the spikes get into, or under, their chassis to lift them off their wheels and create an unstable environment for them while still destroying them in the meantime.

Edit: This bot was made pretty quick. Not the prettiest thing but it's fun to battle with.

Name: Tribute | Class: MiddleWeight | Weight: 390.1 | Armor: Aluminum 5

Simply put, it's made for pushing/ramming things. (I tried adding a flipper to the front part, hence all the open space. I'll continue trying to make a decent flipper bot but it's challenging for me.)

Oh, and batteries are left over, lol. Woops! xD

Updated bot/stats:
IRL
Armor: Plastic 5

Well besides the IRL stuff (Changed it to be named standard. I don't know or care which it is but I'm never right when choosing one.). I have so many teeth to outlast bots with heavy up front weapons. Previous designs made those bots difficult. It's so big to keep it balanced. The more surface area closer to the ground allows it to be more stable. The skirts are needed to avoid flipper bots, they do work for the bots currently in-game. The armor in this design isn't touched by most bots. There is no reason to up it.

Anyway, there's my explanation for stuffs. Hope you enjoy either way :P

What's the point of those skirts? It won't get under any decent wedge, it looks ugly, and it's blocking the weapon. It's going to be extremely fragile too with plastic 1 armour. Remove the skirts and try to get some more armour. As for the battery, 3-5 batteries will do fine. Due to a glitch in the game's code all spin motors only need 10 amps to run at full power. Otherwise it isn't too bad.

How long will the batteries last though? With this set up I run low on power a minute before the match ends. Also the skirt works for many AI bots in the game which is what I design around. Whether it's ugly or not? Not a concern for me personally. The armor is a risk but with this set up, if it's working, they barely ever touch the armor.

So I decided to lean more towards weapons then armor...

Updated bot/stats:
Standard? (I don't know! Bleh!)
Armor: Plastic 1

I like it. Don't feel like people need to be so down on it :P As well as it being IRL or not, not everyone knows what would be classified as IRL. I personally have no experience in robot building and don't know what is or isn't possible. Thinking anyone could know that isn't realistic in my opinion. Anyway I do like. How does it work against the AIs?

I love these bots of yours. They look strong, powerful, and cool at the same time :P (cept maybe the last one)

Hard for me to see what's what in the first one. Second one look decent. Third one looks cool. I like 'em :P

I guess it's just hard for me to know the differences... I'll edit the descriptions :3 Thanks guys.

A new attempt at a previous bot I built. Unneeded armor but wasn't sure what else to put in that area. I would make the weapon better but then I don't have room for the forks I want.

Updated bot/stats:
IRL
Armor: Steel 5
Weight: 388.6

Edit: Changed the forks a bit. (Shown in left.)

That's not Standard, that's IRL building.

Also with a name like Puppy I would try to run away from Jonzu if I were you.

Anything that classifies as IRL is on accident :P I don't know much about IRL stuff and intend my bots to be good in-game against opponents. But, thank you? :3

And now for this. Not sure what categories bots really fall under. Either way I was inspired by another video I saw and made this.

Updated bot/stats:
IRL
Armor: Plastic 3
Weight: 394.9

The hammers cut through the armor a bit. I'm not good at painting the bot so I had no way to represent. The batteries/controls/tires are all safe from the spinner.

too much drive. Honestly you probably had the top limit before, but now..

Yeah, I kinda agree. But these motors fit the best and aren't to overpowered that I'm worried about it.

Edit: I was more worried about the belt/weapon not having a support beam, but that fell under the game mechanics so I felt Standard was still a thing. I'm adding an image to show it doesn't hit tires/parts to the bot post.

That was barely, just barely, overweight. Anyhow, I decided to create a middleweight spinner and here it is! It seems to work rather well in combat.

Updated bot/stats:
Armor: Aluminum 3
Weight: 398.3

Edit: Added 4th image to show weapon doesn't hit the tires or any inner components. Hard to get a good picture instead of video. It doesn't hit any of the inner components or itself (barely).

Updated the bot. It has much more survive ability. I removed excess weapon components that weren't helping in fights to get enough weight for more armor. The weapon overall hasn't changed much.  Wheels also act as decent protection as well (as long as they stay on). Thoughts?

So I saw some videos of ComBots and this amazing Spinner. I wanted to create one (middleweight as usual) but ended up with a lightweight that seems extremely effective! I'm very happy with how it turned out for it's weight class.

As always I really do like seeing comments on my bots. It makes me happy to see peoples reactions. Helps me learn and know what looks good/bad or works well/doesn't.

Updated bot/stats:

Before Edit (I still like this bot a lot. I think it does better in quite a bit of combat situations compared to Edit #1)

Standard
Armor: Aluminum 1
Weight: 246.9

Edit #1

Standard
Armor: Aluminum 3
Weight: 245.5

So I designed a bot to basically 'shred' the enemy in a way. Maybe lift 'em off the ground a bit depending on the bot. Not the best but it's neat. Had to add the little arms so it didn't front flip as much. Helps keep enemies in the 'shredding' area as well.

Updated bot/stats:

Standard
Armor: Plastic 3
Weight: 397 (Middle Weights :D)
