Shogun has proven particularly challenging.

My LW's and MW's aren't faring well against the new bots with hammer heads

Discussion / A list of people who can host.
« on: June 22, 2006, 04:37:50 AM »
Just to jump on the bandwagon of old ppl posting, I don't think I can host as I'm behind a router.

and to answer other questions....

I drop by every once in a while -- mainly to check on the sneak peaks. After all, this is one of the remaining driving forces behind one of my favorite games. (as well as the only game I've written an FAQ for)

I was busy playing Battlefield 2 for a while, so that took up most of my gaming time.

There was a brief moment of revivied interest when I leant out the CD to a friend (I own both the CD and download versions of the game), who had that graphics problem.

Haven't made anything really new for DSL, tho -- since my friend can't play DSL

please state the problem , cause i used it and it works fine. To answer yur previous question this is a fix for nvidia 6000+ so it will be like a virus for any other its just for the menu and the designing of the robot not in game graphic's so state ur problem

There isn't a problem per se. I have tried getting other people into the game. The patch fixed one person's problems with the standard UI and playing the game. However, on another computer, the patch only fixed the robot-building portions of the game. (UI was fine; Robot building & garage loaded; however no arenas (exhibition matches, SP campaigns, & multiplayer) could be played)

The main reason I'm inquiring, just as an unofficial documentarian. This issue definitely seems like something I'd have to add to my faq(s).

General Support / Graphics Errors

I've downloaded the patch for a friend who was interested in RA2;

I'm just curious as to why it's doing what it's doing (not looking for too-technical of an explanation, but still want to know why). In addition, will the patch files cause problems with other graphics cards?

Two of the major changes in DSL 2.0 are impossible to show in screenshots.  One is an almost total re-writing of the txt files, making them more convenient, balanced, and gramatically correct.  The other is all-new, more realistic sound effects.  These things alone greatly increase the play value in my opinion.

Even though it's so hard to show you all this kind of stuff, I did my best and made a 2-minute DSL 2.0 preview video featuring some impressive hits and stunts.

(10 mb)

Enjoy!

Amazing how much of a difference sound makes, eh?  :D

Why in the world does Speed Demon have an air tank? I didn't see any pistons.

That is a lot of wasted internal space . . .

frenZy fans rejoice: in DSL 2.0, that short little 90 degree hammer has been extended to twice its previous length (approximately the length of the real hammer) and swings back and forth through a 180 degree arc!

Before anyone gets their hopes up: No, that's not a burst motor.  180 deg burst motors are still impossible, unfortunately.  The hammer is swung by a limited spin motor like the hammer motor in FB's component pack.

Animation of the updated frenZy swinging the hammer.  You can see how it could be a threat to spinners.

(Image removed from quote.)

Nifty, and frankly more accurate anyhow.  I have not used the FB pack so I don't know anything about a limited spin motor. How much damage does it actually cause?  Will we be seeing this used in other hammer bots (Overkill, Judge, Killer/Terror/Beta Hurtz, Diesector, etc.) ?

Discussion / So...
« on: June 02, 2005, 10:46:08 PM »

Can you blame me for trying?

Oh, well.

This is as close as I could get. Two opposite-facing sets of 3 in-line burst pistons with hexplates inbetween to get the triangular sections. I have very little control aside from trying to go forward or backward and letting the physics engine cry. It's incredibly unstable and the designated front end is pretty much detached and flails around.

It is fun to watch, tho.

Trying to make a good lw VS, I'll keep those in mind. (Mine keep getting their weapon motor dismembered)
