Todays the day he gets motors, btw Mistfire could we have a pic of the bot when it has got all the basic components?
We still have to consider some expenses based off the samples we've gotten. I'll be sure to get some pictures up though! ^^

This thread hasn't been posted in for a long time so I wanted to ask, how has the bot gone on? Has it been successful?
Great, we're looking at what kinds of motors we should use this Thursday!

I was wondering who that was in your avatar; your affinity for SOAD confirmed my thought that it was Daron, lol
Anyway, an effective VS would probably use dsl bars or something to that extent with weapons (Up to you what you use, for a SHW I'd probably use the biggest hammers) and you have hella weight to mess around with so I would put in some strong armor (At SHW I'd use Ti10 or St10, your choice)
Similarly, I'd switch out those big black batteries for small Ant batteries which require 1 per spin motor because ra2 is ra2.
As far as anything else goes, I'll let someone more experienced take the wheel.
Well I would follow up on your dsl bar idea, however I'm trying to keep the bot themed. When I thought about what a bot called Hypnotize would have as a weapon, I instantly thought about the hypno-disc. Another thing is that id does have St10 for armor. Generally all I'd really try to change on it is the flipper and turn it into a hammer weapon like you said. That ant battery idea for Chop Suey! however is something I'll definitely take up. Thanks! The middleweights will be up tomorrow if not tonight

why that big ass unwedgy Vlad lifter on front of your VS, it seems counterintuitive
I asked myself that just now. Got rid of it.

Well I just took up that advice on lowering my bot's weight. Now it's time I showed you guys the System Of A Down themed team! To begin, take a look at the mandatory bot for a team like this: Chop Suey! It is powered by the same magmotors used for HD2 except used effectively as an offense/defense this time around. It has a DSL bar so I can attach the teeth somewhere effective with some beater bars on the bottom for those sneaky, low clearance bots who can escape the teeth. It has cramped space otherwise, but the battery lasts long enough through the default three minutes and it does enough damage before they run dry too. Only problem? Once it's flipped over, it's done. Otherwise, this HW is brutal, again look at it's damage and it actually disarms bots effectively. That is, if the enemy isn't shorter than you. Outside view Inside view Moar inside view Note the time spent so far in the match, now look at that score! I cry, when good bots deserve to die... Up next is Hypnotize! This destructive SHW likes to toss other bots upwards, or if it bounces, ride them to victory. Literally, the hypno-discs on it spin a bit too low to the ground so it bounces occasionally (which is my advantage actually) which basically props it up on top of a bot and starts doing the desired damage. As you can see, two gear motors on this one with a panic attack flipper weapon which doesn't do much really besides help self-right in sticky situations. Very durable, it dishes out amazing damage as well! Check him out below An outside view An inside view of it's components Another angle to view it from Victory as always That wraps up the first two Heavyweights. This will be updated probably tomorrow with the two middleweights: Toxicity and Mr. Jack!

Alright, I'll see to it that I can lower it to a middleweight since I don't really feel like forcing things onto it to make it heavier

looks a bit weird. is that disc angeld? also try to build to the weightlimit.
The disc is not angled, and it is to the weight limit I just have a SHW maker attached to it. I'm not sure if the little blue square shows up or not in the screenshot however Nice skin. But you can DEFINITELY do alot more with that weight. Upgrade to a dual perm? More weapons? Also the bot seems a little, I dunno, short?
Well my goal is to make it more like Hypno-Disc, not a completely different bot. I made it short since I don't want the wheels to have to be any bigger than they are now and still have it work upside down. There's having a huge block, with big heavy wheels, or a short bot with normal weight wheels. Basically I'm just trying to stick to the hypno-disc concept with my own twist

I've started a cool little collection of DSL3 realistic bots, and well I guess it's time to show them off! To start I have a "Hypno-Disc 2" bot that works pretty well for a SHW (Approximately 900 without the SHW piece on it) with the trademark Hypno-Disc as it's weapon powered by a 4 Mag Gearbox. The tornado wheels let it work when flipped over (hence the rhyme on the bottom; Nice try but time to die) and save me from the hassle of getting a srimech for it. The only downside to it is that it is somewhat obnoxious when it is airborne with the disc spinning. It stays completely vertical and when it lands it seems to always stay upside down no matter what, but I guess it isn't a problem since it works upside down too.. In combat, it is insane, take a look. Components Appearance Just a few seconds into battle and look at the other bot! Look at that score! Any comments on it, go right ahead. Also, I'm using the NAR AI pack for DSL3 if you're asking. I have a System Of A Down themed team coming up next, expect to see them somtime tomorrow or today!

We're aiming for Middleweight-Lightweight. We've ditched the counter rotating disc idea and settled to maybe have them spin clockwise (teeth going upwards). But a good question is, where should we put the scrimech?
Also, maybe it'd help if I uploaded concept art?

i'm not a robotic engineer, but I do watch lots of live events, a problem to consider is flippers, is the design going to be invertible or is it going to have a srimech?
The design won't be invertible. But yeah I'll mention a scrimech though, perhaps along the little flat part it will have in order to store some of the batteries. We were thinking of using big wheels but since it's a wedge, it would made it a bit harder to use once it's been flipped in a way where the sawblades point downwards. I also noticed that you say you see lots of live events, on which coast? Or is it central US Bouncing doesn't happen on rotating discs irl, depending on the design of the disc a bot would just get flung in the direction the disc was rotating, sawblades aren't generally effective anyway since grinding isn't an effective method of attack most of the time, blunt tooth discs are generally more effective (in the uk anyway)
Right. Well we're still stubborn on the idea of using two discs going in different directions, but we will take up the idea of using blunt teeth for them. One question I just had, how much should a bot like this weigh? Because sometimes certain designs do better among different weight classes.

Hello my fellow robotic engineers! So my robotics club will be all working on creating our first ever combat robot, and we were thinking of using DSL3 to at least get a simple CONCEPT of what we want to do. Generally our idea is to have a wedgebot, with two discs peeking out from the top. It would get under an opponent and the spinning sawblades would be facing different directions which we expect to create a bouncing effect and cause more damage. Seeing as to how most people here are involved in their own occasional robotic combat events, maybe you could say if for now it sounds like a good idea?
Thanks!

NAR AI. Balances a bit all the weapons, and stuff.
I forgot to mention, could I get links to it as well? ^^'' Thanks though

So I have convinced my Computer Gaming teacher to let use use RA2 in class to help us learn about how to incorporate components into 3d gaming.. well whatever. He put me in charge of the curriculum and I was thinking of showing them how to make bots such as flippers, poking bots, etc. However, I get this whole week and part of next week to cover these topics and I would be done by tomorrow, moving on to a tournament among the students later on. Does anyone have any ideas I could put into the curriculum?
Also, I am planning on appealing to my robotics club with this game as well and to hopefully welcome them into the forums. Surprisingly enough, they have never even considered the robotic combat ideas since they started (wow, this really did get dug underground) and maybe you guys could give me some things to tell the robotics club administrator? They've made their bots before, they made one of those things that shoot cannons into the audience and apparently they made a small forklift bot. But I just feel that the club gets little to no attention because of this, it doesn't exactly spark imaginations. You just find a concept that's been done before, code it and that's it. But then with combat robots you get the ideas such as "how can we make this aerodynamic, where and how could we make the sawblade/hammer more effective". Imagination is what makes us create, and with creation, we get even closer to the future we yearn for.
... Ok actually, I think I might have said enough to convince him myself. Still, though, I'd like insight by your part to make this work and incorporate combat robots into my school's robotic club and help me get involved.

I'm gonna keep it short:
Has anyone ever considered making a 24/7 server on gameranger exclusively for those late night RA2 players wishing to squeeze in a match? I mean I have a hypothesis on why not, mainly because people don't go on multiplayer that much but still, it's peaked my curiosity.

Can anyone recommend any good downloads that go with the DSL3 mod? I already have the Paranoia AI on there, but I feel like I'm missing something that everybody else has. Just some ideas on what I should get would be enough, thanks!

If you're still up for it, i don't mind doing so
Sure thing! you could join me in dsl, me hf, kos_ and occasionally others used to mess about in dsl.
Of course, just show me how to set it up for DSL haha

I'm up for some multiplayer. Maybe tonight around 8:00 or 9:00 pacific time. I do have two simple rules however, just to be able to make things "easy" for newbies like me. 1. Due to being somewhat of an inexperienced bot creator, I ask that simple bots (basically anything that looks realistic) are used for these online battles only. 2. No cheatbots The arena will be the Octagon arena, the version will be stock, and again, no cheatbots. The bot I will be battling with is shown here: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=10131And once more I repeat, keep the bots you will be battling me with simple. Please? My name in gameranger is Mistfire333.

Alright thanks. But for some reason no matter what I do the Update options are unaccesible, as in it's pale. Any boxes I should check or uncheck before this that I may have missed?

Just a simple issue. I'm trying to both upload a profile picture/link a URL but two different problems occur. 1. When I try to UPLOAD a picture, no matter what I upload the picture is too large or not an avatar 2. When linking a URL, the picture does not show up. Help? All I'm trying to do is change my picture to this: http://www.armeniapedia.org/images/a/ae/Daron_malakian-arsineh_khachikian.jpg
