Thanks for that, and all responses. All very useful.

Finally figured out how to make external motor casing. Much better bot than before but still not quite there yet. Will put in tournaments and see how it does.

Has anyone figured out how to predict effect of changing the first three TM_ROW's of an attach point with regard to its alignment? I'd like to find a more efficient method than guess work and elimination.

Needs to have more power and speed. Weapon and srmec both work well however.

A fresh start. I am going re-learn what I have forgotten. I am more inclined towards function rather than aesthetics so robot designs may be less popular different than before, including more use of custom components.

Designs will be posted here. Thanks for comments and feedback.

I feel like making some robots. The good news is I have forgotten how to do just about everything.

I have a couple of questions:

>Is this place still active in terms of building?

>Has a compatible free or cheap 3D editor for the GMF files been found? I have found a vector coordinate software for mapping points but something more user friendly would be good.
>Have seen some new mods with new components mentioned in forum. Any links welcome, as I cannot see any in downloads section apart from stock and DSL 2.1
>Could someone link me the DSL3 mod if that is still around?

Just build some bots and see what's what.

Thanks.

To be honest, I'd prefer it if all the robots were the same weight class, like in the show there were only heavyweights.

I appreciate this but this mod is based on modern robot wars i.e. FRA / roaming robots which has different weight divisions. Which is also why I am after a new arena. Also it makes it possible for players to play events with different classes of builds.

Update:

I have created 32 teams of 3 bots. Each with one light, medium and one heavyweight. I will make use of a batch rotator to enable to enable the teams to be rotated in smaller batches of 4 or 8 bots. This should enable the league/events system to be functional. All events have been replaced with a 1 v 1 tournament in the current rw arena.

All I have left to do are some graphical odds and ends, the credits screen, the batch rotator and a new arena and I'm finished. Prepare yourself for the ultimate Robot Wars experience!

Also as the Battlebots Arena is one of my favourites, and the game more easily creates that Battlebots experience, I will be making a BB mod also, people can take their pick.

Arena Change: I am looking to change the RW arena to match the modern 'live' arena more closely. If anyone with more arena modding experience would like to make these changes it will save me time.

Needed:

Remove the stage area and place the crowd on all four sides. I'd also like the pit release button to be removed and for the pit to be down at all times. I'd also like to remove the fridge and the flame hazards.

Anyone interested in doing this will of course receive credit.

I am still working on the audio. Would anyone happen to know where the audio code is for the game? I am replacing the match_countdown.wav's "with 3 2 1 activate".

I have been looking for something long-term to work on in my spare time and this old game came to mind.
I plan to redo all UI graphics and audio with a Robot Wars theme. I will also add to the robot roster and expand the components list.

Tasks:

Music
SFX
UI graphics
Arena - Arena will be a standard box. I am yet to decide between 'box' and the 'BB cube' to base off.
Expanded robot roster

UPDATE:

I have been working on the game intro and have replaced the music and have been working on the splashes.

[I am also returning to building robots. I have forgotten almost everything so it will be like a fresh start.]

This looks very interesting so far. I will follow this with interest. As for the menu I would strongly advise against the graffiti font, I don't think it really fits. Impressive tho it is. Good luck with it all! One other suggestion I would make is to design it to be mod-able from day one.

For what its worth I make/made IRL bots that could win fights, that to me is what IRL is... something you could see or even build in real life. I think there has been a merging of 'art bots' and IRL which has created confusion, as they are not quite the same.

Combat IRL should be 'realism' genre

Decided to make a start on building Cruiserweights.

Have a hammer, this is Pestilence.

Looks like a squashed to me. I like it. You could colour the extenders to finish it.

I am bored of fighting the same bots all the time in DSL, as good as they are a bit more variety is needed to make the game more interesting in my view. From my point of view more is better. I will just pursue this myself if no-one else is interested anyway, assuming people don't mind me using their packs. Also I'm not interested in using those funny DSL standard bot things so it will be combat worthy IRL-ish bots.
