Awesome! Glad you got through the mess.
Stick around, show bots and join the fun. You seem cool. We need fresh blood.
Oh Snap... I forgot... your blood is not fresh. :P
Fresh blood, ha! I remember playing this game even before the 1.3 patch was out, and when there were gyrax wheels (Lord, I miss those things). But anyway, thank you, and I will be staying here. I friggin' love this game, and I will be sure to showcase a few of my designs. I'll just consider this little mishap as initiation into RAhood.

It worked, updating to Python 3.2. I declare this problem solved.

And yes, there are 42 files in the folder.

I installed the game on a laptop, which has Windows XP (obviously it works with that perfectly), and on another desktop with Vista 64-Bit, which it works more so than this one, but it does have problems with using certain ai bots. The computer with Vista 64x is dead right now, so I'm stuck with this one.

So I looked in the practice arena folder, and I have the following files/folders: maps, practice_arena.gmf, and practice_arena_txt.gmf. Anything missing in there?

Hmm... Go take a look inside your RA2 folder for the 'Arenas' folder and the problem may become clearer for you.
What be I looking for? Everything seems to be in order there. Wait! There are plenty of Python files, and I believe that my Python is out of date. I honestly don't know if it will, but if that does work, then I won't be complaining.

The thing is that it crashes (or freezes, for the instance of the exhibition) whenever I enter an arena. No matter which version of RA2 I use, the DSL 2.1 (Sage's download included), the RA2 1.4, and the CD installation (patched or not), the game always crashes or freezes in an arena.

Well, if it is the extraction itself that's messing it up, then I'll use a different program to do so. I'll still use the desktop, and I shall see if that works.
Edit: Okay, it seems that extracting it differently didn't help. It still crashes upon opening the PTA. I don't know what to do by now, so I'm just gonna see if posting the error message details will help diagnose this problem. This is just a guess, but I think you're dead.
Well, technically I'm not dead. I'm just not actually alive either, since I cannot die.

Try this full download courtesy of Sage: http://raw.gametechmods.com/Shhhh/DSL21.rar
Ah, you mean the one that I downloaded twice all ready. But still, I'll do a clean download, extraction directly to the desktop, and I'll follow the instructions that Sage has given, to create a shortcut and change the name (not sure if you meant the shortcut or the .exe) to DSL. Wish me luck!

Hmm... how did that get there? Silly me for overlooking it.

First off, you will need the image format to be .bmp or .tga. Next, the image will need to be an exponent of 2 both horizontally and vertically, usually 512 or 256 px. The height and width can be different, as long as it is 128, 256, 512, etc.

I'm sure that a problem like this has all ready been posted, but I'm lazy tonight and don't feel like digging through hundreds of threads, so I'm just gonna do a new one. First off, I downloaded the DSL 2.1 directly from here, extracting it into the correct destination for the regular RA2 (for organization's sake), getting everything running nice and dandy, at least until I get to a certain critical point in the robot building process. I have Vista (32-Bit), so the problems with getting the thing going in the first place can be quite numerous. Thankfully, there's only one problem (not exactly thankfully, but in Vista's terms, you know what I mean). When I get to the Performance Test Area, the game crashes, with the usual error window that I dread: Robot Arena 2.exe has stopped working, blah blah blah. I've tried everything from compatibility mode, to running it from the desktop. it always crashes when I go into the PTA. Now, I thought that it may just be that, so I tried another instance where the robot is in a workable space, but upon starting an exhibition match, the game freezes, and the four UI stat message things (whatever you call them) appear, with the name "Peanut Botta" and exactly 8888 points on each. This doesn't happen on my other computer (this one has 64-Bit Vista), but there are a few problems on that computer which will be discussed in a later post.
Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated. ~NRL
P.S. Sorry for such a long and verbose post. It's my first time reporting an error with a game.

You hit, "save" after you added it, right? Because if that's not it, I don't know why it would disappear...
That would definitely help some.

I would definitely have to say that the most iconic stock RA2 robot is Emergency. I can recall the very earliest days of robot building where it was the only bot that could actually defeat my handful of scraps one-on-one.
