In a normal robot, the motors spin the wheels, with this setup, the motors spin the chassis while the wheels just sit there. It gets some pretty good speed, and beyond the whole breaking the laws of physics, with some creative imagining giving consideration to the limitations of RA2, a completely buildable robot. It is capable of moving forwards and backwards, but instead of moving the way the "drive" wheels are pointed, it moves the direction the front of the chassis is pointed.

shreddar was built after spin cycle and functions no where close to it. Its hard to believe a newbie around here who cant build worth jack and then shows up with a bot very well built and very similar to a bot I just entered in a tournament.
others would agree. by functions nowhere close to it, you mean it has the same drive system, same battery, same chassis shape and same number of weapon heads in a slightly different layout. Also, I don't see Spin Cycle showcased prior to 5/3/08. As I said before, though, putting two common systems together does not make you the king of originality. You'd have a better argument if 40757 had made any sort of claim about his bot being original/the first of its kind. As it is, you're whining about someone going "hey, that weapon looks effective. I'll try making one."

To be completely honest, it looks like you just optimized Shreddar and used the extra weight to add weapons. ...and if you honestly think you're the first person to combine a horizontally spinning weapon with a spinning chassis, I think you're beyond help. Get over yourself and quit whining about someone building a robot that looks like yours.

9 heads on a HP Ztek on a LW? you would be mistaken. You're very good at ignoring the point. You combined two VERY common setups and are having a fit because someone else did the same.

Really? count on one hand how many times you've seen it done. I've seen 9 heads on a Ztek quite a few times, so that's not original. I've seen Ztek+RAD on a LW before, so that's not original. I've seen chassis designed to fit the components quite tightly before, so that's not original. I've seen T shaped spinners before, so that's not original. Short of managing to stack your Ztek and your control board into your battery, there's no lighter chassis style to use. Shockingly enough, taking a fairly standard chassis shape and putting a fairly common tribar setup onto it does not make you the sole owner of the concept of combining the two.

It's not like there's a whole lot of chassis design freedom when you shove a HP-Ztek, drive system and 9 weapon heads onto a LW.

Thanks for the compliments. Paintjob's temporary, as I don't bother with a decent one 'till I'm happy with the bot.
Haven't taken any pics yet, but I tried a 4 wheeled version that seems to be just about as good. Less weapons, more drive power. The one thing I don't like is that it loses forward momentum very quickly once you start spinning. The 3wd version if spun right can keep moving in a direction while spinning most of the time.
Also, the original version had a driven center with the tribar assembly sitting on an axle. Somehow this defied all known laws of physics and resulted in the chassis being spun to ludicrous speeds by turning on the tribar motors. Not sure if it's a "new" glitch, but it may be.

Had no trouble beating Grog, Critical Emergency, Mako, Shebeast, Smashbox, and Wide Load. Highest damage I saw was 7,029. It may not look it, but it's invertible.

I haven't seen any like dr.inferno.(the one which uses its spike arms to roll around) That would be Towering Inferno

Quite the ambitious spambot...
On the flamethrower thing, completely reinstalling dsl seems to have fixed it.

It might be worth trying to make it shorter instead of smaller to reduce the wasted weight while keeping a lot of the stability the wide footprint adds.

You mean creating a weapon component that is technically like the BBEANS blade, but much smaller and with several sizes available ?
Might be a nice addition. That's the basic idea. Not sure if it would work better with multiple pieces(like the normal DSL bars) where it's got a less destructive flat edged body and a more destructive beveled edge tip or if it would be better as a solid bar. Assuming accuracy is still a major concern, bars tend to break near the axle, leaving either half or none of the bar still attached, so a solid bar or a small hub that the bars attach to would probably be the best fit. Having separate weapon and structural bars would allow a setup like the one on Relic to be possible, where it's got a main spinning bar with a lower weight and strong weapon heads at the ends to be possible, though that effect can be replicated with the dsl bars and any strong weapon head.

Just had an idea...
One of the primary ideas behind DSL is adding realistic weapons/components to RA2, correct?
In robot combat, it's almost always been the case that a solid spinning bar is about as effective as it gets for (horizontal) spinners.
I can't imagine it'd be too terribly hard to balance the custom heads on the Ruiner replica with the available bot lab weapons to make them legal to use.
As far as damage/hit points/etc... They should probably do concussion damage instead of piercing, but have otherwise similar stats to the iron spike with the main variation being hit points based on the weight of the bar. If you want to get really fancy, technically a bigger bar should do more damage as it'll result in a higher KE at any distance, but that may be needlessly complicating things.

Here's some internal shots the likes of which you can usually only find in those magazines they keep behind the counter.

As yet unnamed LW face spinner Beat 360 Arc Pounder, Poison Stinger and Berserker without much trouble. The top spinner(renamed Power Mad) can beat all the DSL lightweights besides 360 with ease, and with 360 it's a toss up most of the time.

2 flamethrowers: Honestly, I just think it looked cooler having the dual flame jets, plus I think it effectively doubles the damage rate, as they appear to be calculated independently.
Juggler: The way the catcher on the top interacts with other bots is a big factor. It's quite springy and allows me to keep right up under them. It may not be completely clear, but Risky lost one of the axles before KOing LN. Not certain, but it almost seems like the springyness helps reduce damage to the plates in combat.
Scary thing with the juggler, besides changing the two shell plates in for what was a plow and playing around with different teeth, that was my first attempt at a TS/Juggler/whatever else you want to call it.

Biggest hit so far is 14511. Still working on balance a bit, but it's reasonably stable. Most problems come from it launching backward on a good hit and tapping the wall.

Your best bet is to browse the showcases here and look for designs you like, then try to replicate them. This will help quite a bit in getting a feel for DSL.
Also, unless I'm mistaken, DSA armor doesn't work in DSL
