Battleaxes are a weapon so they have 1000 HP. That hasn't changed.

Discussion / Snow Plow HP« on: June 22, 2011, 11:05:52 PM »
So, recently Trovaner has posted that the snow plow has default HP for the "Component" base type, which is true. However, the default HP is only 100, which doesn't seem to fit with experience. Plows seem to be a lot more durable than extenders. There's some speculation that the curved shape reduces damage, but what's really going on?
I decided to test the plow HP in game to settle the matter once and for all. I simply rammed a plow into the wall in the test arena and added up how much damage it took before it broke. Then I used a bit of Python for a more exact measurement. In both tests, the total HP came out to 1000, not 100, with a fracture of 60. This is also true of bracket wedges, forklift arms, small wedges, and EMERGENCY wedges. So what's going on? I think the default HP is different depending on whether the component is in the "extenders" category or the "extras" category. Similar to how anything in the "power" category is invincible regardless of what is set in the .txt file, components in the extenders category have 100 HP by default, while components in the extras category have 1000 by default. So, good news! Plows are still safe to use! You don't have to avoid them like the plague now, thinking they only have 100 HP! ![]() 925

Just realized I forgot to link to the BBEANS general rules. Under the current ruleset, custom components, cheaty AI, Trinity fliers, and Nasty Pickles are all allowed.

I hope this doesn't totally mess up anyone's entry for this... but if it does, that's why we have discussion threads posted 1+ month in advance.
I've been thinking, and with a creative chassis shape, it is still possible to make an almost impenetrable front with only 8 casters. But it's pretty much impossible with 6. Therefore, I am reducing the maximum number of casters allowed from 8 to 6. I don't want bots with impenetrable armor. I'm only allowing casters to patch up small holes in your defense, or to toughen up the corners on your bot a little bit, or add some decent gut-ripper defense, or (gasp!) actually use them as intended for balance. Otherwise this tournament would have the potential to go on indefinitely. 929

Can you swap the top irons for razors like you were originally planning to and then get a fourth ram plate in front?
In any case, it looks quite good, though possibly flankable like you said. A fourth ram plate would help protect the front corners a bit more. Or just stick with 3 and move the edge ram plates further out. 931
Stock Showcases / Re: Geice's Stock Showcase« on: June 18, 2011, 11:21:23 PM »Yay for productivity neigh for rain. Those angle motors should be turned around, you want the tribars far apart so they clamp on other HS and tear off extenders. But nice work putting Z-tek drive on there. Tons of people build LW dual HS with Z-tek weapons, thinking that automatically makes them better. But I think better drive is actually the wiser choice. The battle axe popup is awesome; I thought it was a HW when I first saw it. 932

My guess to why it's crashing is that you're missing some critical file that was in the stock AI folder but not the Starcore one. Starcore is meant to overwrite the stock folder. 934
General Support / Re: Skinning with photos?« on: June 18, 2011, 10:45:51 PM »
If you have a fancy image editing program like Photoshop, there are some nice skew/perspective correction tools you can use to get a flat skin out of an oblique photo like that. But it's still better if you can find a photo that's already at the proper angle.

Tournament Archives / Re: Ironbot« on: June 17, 2011, 02:22:29 AM »What are the policies for unpowered wheels, will the loss of the last spare powered wheel allow for the unpowered wheel to be moved? Also, what if wheels are different, does this not matter? Lastly, should I inform you by PM about my absence or what? Unpowered wheels won't count toward the number of spares you get, but I suppose if you want to spend 23 kgs on an axle mount and a shiny hub, you can move that wheel to a drive motor in case the drive wheel breaks. If your bot has two different kinds of wheels, say 2 shinies and 2 grannies, you would get 1 spare shiny and 1 spare granny. If the wheels must be mismatched, they will be. And PM is fine for requesting an alternate entry time. 936

TRFBD.py doesn't use any new tactics so it's not that.
Does the bot move correctly when you drive it? Sometimes wiring for crawlers is quite weird. 938

Try EcoOmni. It uses a slightly different unstuck handler specifically designed for slow bots. (Also bots with low battery, but that's not the problem here.)
Note: you will need to re-wire the spinner with an analog control for EcoOmni. 940

So I get Naryar for my first fight... probably the better of the two bots for me. Whipscorpion consistently beat AntonYYYm in testing, and Tiger Uppercut is slower, so I'm confident I can win. However, I also know that Whipscorpion is all too prone to OOTAing itself at random, so I'm not quite as confident that I WILL win.
