Got Nar AI to work. I was playing in the robot wars arena when this happened:
(Image removed from quote.)

The fridge is told to be "pinned" a certain time after it falls so it can't be pushed around the arena.  Usually it is on the ground when this happens.  But if it's somehow still in the air, it will get pinned in midair.

The entire weapon setup is on an axle

Wouldn't it intersect the wheels then?

And do I sense you straying from pure IRL realism here?  This bot and the last one look almost standard DSL.

What do you think? (Especially you Click, Rematch for old times sake?)

(Go ahead and get started if so; I'll be using Bisector of course, but I won't be around for the next week.)

Where were you for Clash of the Titans?  That bot looks really fun.  I can't even imagine what happens when it hits something.

Anyway, I really get a kick out of that Vertical Spinner.

Pun intended? :P

But I agree that Battle Force looks cool.

Longer counterweight gives you more leverage so it doesn't need to be as heavy.  Since your counterweight needs to be really short, you need to compensate by making it super heavy.  But if it's heavy enough it will work.

The only way to make servos lift is with counterweight.  You'd have to make a really small custom component that weighs like 200 kgs and put that on the other end of the lifting prongs.

Bot for RoboLeague.  A rammer/popup hybrid like my HW Cold Front, except I made it a true popup so the popup razors can be used for ramming as well.

It's designed to be durable like a rammer so it can take hits from spinners, but also able to score quick KO's which will be important for winning the qualifying matches.  However, it's also surprisingly good at flipping bots OOTA, even with only 1 Snapper.  The leverage must be just right or something.  Probably about 25% of the time it wins, it's by OOTA (depending on bot type).

Wedges are decidedly average, not bad, but there's plenty of bots that can get under it too.  However Cold Snap has an advantage in the event of a wedge-lock, which happens quite frequently: the middle razors can take off the opponent's wedge while the bots are stuck together.

Really?  It looks awfully narrow.  Do the angled sides help perhaps?

Whoa that is awesome.  I've never seen that done in stock.

Can you raise the caster a bit more to protect the Redbirds?

Why can't you enter it in RoboLeague?  Already have a spinner?

Probably spinner bait, but very nicely built.

Hmm... so Alius flips up with the DDT while the Snappers flip downwards?  That's an interesting way to build a flipper, I might have to try it.

Edit: I deleted your old showcase since you made it by accident and it didn't have any new bots in it.

General Support / Re: Lowering the drop speed of the RW Pit.
« on: July 09, 2011, 05:16:38 PM »
Opps, misread it twice... I guess my multitasking strategy isn't working as well as I had thought it would...

Code: [Select]
prism = self.AddPrismatic("arena_collision", "pitcover", 0, 1, 0, 0, -5, 0)
Its been awhile since I last used prismatcis but I think all you have to do is change the 1 to a smaller value (something like 0.6 maybe?).

No, the prismatic only sets the start/end points, not the speed... there should be a plus.force somewhere...

fakeedit:  Well it's really convoluted but I think I found it.  Open DSLHaz.py, find class PitDropper, and find this line

Code: [Select]
        self.prismatic.SetPowerSettings(0.00001, -580)

The speed is already super slow but you could maybe try lowering it to 0.000005.  But I have a hunch that gravity does most of the work of lowering the pit, which there's nothing you can do about (unless you want the whole arena to have moon gravity).

Ah, you'll need apanx's exporter then to get the correct weapon id's.

What's a more reasonable value for fbs_range?

Depends on the bot.  A low value lets you get closer to the opponent before you start spinning, which makes more exciting matches, but you risk getting hit before you can spin up.  If your bot can take hits then 5-10 is a good value.  If it has a really soft squishy core, then 12-20 is better.  The size of the bot also matters; a huge SHW will obviously need a bigger fbs_range than a LW.

Close any other programs you have running, and make sure nothing else is secretly running in the background (such as antivirus software).

Ignoring OOTA for a sec, while you might assume high HP components might be harder to break, the truth is that whichever bot with the least amount of weapons tend to get de-weaponed completely after 1 match, regardless of what they are using.  So then whichever bot has weapons left by round 2 can easily win the next 2 match.  It really doesn't matter how much armor you have because as long as the other 2 bots has no weapons I win.

Unless you have protected/hard to reach weapons, like on a popup or some jugglers.

But you do bring up a good point; maybe this should be only single elimination?  The loser's bracket could get pretty boring if there's a lot of de-weaponed bots in it.

Or cut the time to one minute?

So it's like Ironbot, but set up more like a regular tournament than a last bot standing kind of thing.  And in 3-way melee mode.

I planned on doing Ironbot in DSL at first but then decided it would take too long to break components.  Limiting it to 1 component over 8000 HP is a good idea.  How are you going to handle unbreakable components like Ti half sheets on the baseplate and heavy plows?

Also you should ban popups, they won't fit the spirit of this

Popups are probably OK for this, since it's set up more like a normal tournament than Ironbot is.  However I wouldn't complain if they were banned.

Does that mean you can build a bot, for ME?  And you promise it will be EFFECTIVE?

I wonder, would you go as far as re-filming to keep that promise?

Translation:

123 and Sparkey are not being serious.  This rule

That or I can build a bot for you. I will make sure it's effective.

is completely broken and should be discarded.  It makes absolutely no sense.  If you build a bot for someone, it's still YOUR bot.  You built it.  Calling it 123's bot or Sparkey's bot is a mere formality with no practical basis.  And then there's all the questions of bias (intentional or not) and all the backlash there would be if someone thought you built them a bad bot... it's just a bad idea.

Very retro.  Y connectors, servos... haven't seen those in a while.  What's with the T connector on the back of Thunderhand?
