I've always had better results with a short curved hammer that has a small swing because giant stabilizers are stupid.

never see hammers anymore.

Challenge accepted...

looks like a joke waiting to happen...

i'd see if you could move the wheels up closer to the center so it isn't so "long"...

We've had a lot of good general robotics and robot combat discussion in the General Chatter thread but that always seems to die out and get sidetracked or lost in all the other random stuff that goes on in that thread. So I have created a General Chatter thread for robotics/robot stuff.

Also have a link about Complete Control...

Would it be possible to make the chassis that shape, instead of using metal hinges? That would free up some weight to add motor supports of some description, maybe a couple of flipper segments or so.

I actually did try that. I couldn't quite get it to look right though. I was kinda going for something like MikeNCR's 1lb bot with the wedge.

EWWW METAL HINGE WEDGES AND MICRO WHEELS...

Courthousedoc gave me the idea...

skirts are supposed to overlap and function as one "wedge" but kinda failed at it...

Post all your oldskool robot stuff in some thread in the Real Robotics section where we can find it easier than in this stupid thread...

You going to WNE? I visited there two weeks ago. Campus was really cool.

IRL building in DSL is all about finding the happy balance between looking like a real life robot and effectiveness. There shouldn't be any restrictions on components, but subpar DSL should stop being considered IRL building. I have no problem with someone using metal hinges as long as they don't detract from the overall look of the bot and are used sparingly.

For Primary Weapons, I'm wondering if I'm the only one who likes the idea of a Flamethrower.
It may explode on you...
Indeed a risk, but it'd definitely be cut with a bulletproof fuel tank.

I made a flame thrower once. It was a direct flow of the bottle with a bernzOmatic propane torch to light it, remote controlled too. Sadly I don't have any pictures but I might make it again...

I also have a $40 BB gun I shoot rabbits and squirrels with. My dad's got a real gun but I can't remember what it is at the moment.

Let's see what's left on the to-do list...

  • Get batteries Already done.
  • Get Speed Control for drive motors Already done.
  • Preliminary wiring for test purposes Already done.
  • Find weapon motor and components
  • Install power distribution circuit (Y harnesses, cutoff link, fuses and main power switch)
  • Go to scrap yard in search of some still-useful plate metal for armour and some spiky bits for decoration
  • Find another HW builder in the area for practice
  • Enter first competition

I've been wondering... On a flipper like that, is there a tether on the flipper that is also attached to the chassis to keep the pnuematic ram from over-extending and coming apart, or would such a thing even be necessary?

Some people don't attach their "Arm" to the ram, so tether is used to keep it from "flipping" too far back and not retracting. Also sometimes people use bungee cords or springs to force the ram back down faster.

others in no specific order.
Mangi, Ripto 3, SubZero, Dead Metal (the RW housebot), Witch Doctor

Woo, someone with favorite robots built less than ten years ago.

Yeah I really don't understand the idolization of old robots and the belief that Hypno Disc could take on and beat any 220...

Also throw in HotStuff and Diesector.
