I knew there was one I forgot. I'll get onto it at some juncture.

Hi mate! Always good to see new people making showcases.

From the off, there are plenty of things I can see you can do to improve your bots significantly. People will no doubt link you to a load of stuff but I think it best if we take things bit by bit. So here's a few pointers to work from.

1 - Build to the weight limit. You may find it hard to use up all 800kg, especially at first, but you should endeavor to. But not just with anything you can throw on it. One of the most important things when building a horizontal spinner if having more weapons than your opponent. In your bot, there is the best part of 200kg free that you could use for more weapons. Use that extra weight to make your bot more powerful.

2 - Build the chassis around the components. What it seems you've done is made a standard cuboid chassis and thought 'what can I put in this chassis?'. Now you know what you are trying to include on your bot, design a chassis which those components will fit in but has as little extra space as possible. What this does is reduces useless weight usage, as a bigger chassis weighs more, allowing you to invest in weapons, armour, drive or anything really.

3 - Have all your weapons in one direction. As Mr Awesomesauce said, it is rare that you will be attacked from anything but your front, as long as it is your front that is pointing at the opponent. As such, you should be focusing on having your weapons all facing forwards as well. Either lose that face spinner on the redbird or make it face forward.

This is only the tip of the iceberg of the tips we can give, but once you grasp these we can move onto more.

Damn I love multi-quote.

Snapper 2 is the bomb.  Don't know why everyone uses DDT.

You probably only need 3 razor per snapper 2 though.

I'd probably get away with that, but I fell the weight is better used on razors really.

I can't be arsed to boot up stock and check the weight difference... but wouldn't a upside down red dual arm thingy do better than the spike strip.  (lawl... i can't even remember what they are called)

Bracket wedge? It's 16 kg (compared to 14kg) and larger, plus the spike strip does damage.

Damn you GK, you make me want to build a bot. How dare you! :D

My pleasure.

Sticking with the HW Popup theme, I've gone for compactness to the level of ridiculousness.

4 ramplates. Dunno how good the wedges are, it can defeat HS.

Well, it's working. Without adjusting the wedges it slides under any wedge not on a godly level (Like Windmill, Grade 4 Whiplash, Circle of Flaming Irons, that kind of level).

I ended up taking off the blades completely. The extenders don't get hit by HS, it seems from testing.

Wedges still need adjusting. 20kg of ballast in front atm.

Still had no inspiration for a LW. Am working on it though.

And me.

872
1. Bots and comments from the community. Less playground trash.
2. Time, I have little these days due to my schoolwork. I used to comment on like, every thread.
3. Showcases and Tournaments.
4. I try to but time and bandwidth are constraints.
5. Because I can't make splashes to save my life.
6. Countless.
7. Almost exclusively stock.
8. I don't like to blow my own trumpet, but quite a lot.

Some people can be real twats when they give critique to new members

Completely agree.

Thanks guys, that was a useful idea.

DSA, 2 Blacks, 4WD, 6 Razors per DDT. Wedges alright. :/

Hoping I'm getting towards the last few iterations of the bot now. Wish I could do someting more useful with the last 14kg - currently BA/extender ballast. Don't want any more weight on the wedges.

Here's the latest iteration:

DSA, 4WD, 2 Blacks, 6 Razors per DDT

I've had a number of ideas for changes, but I'd like to see what you all think I could do first. I don't want to have to make too many more versions of this guy. Here's my thoughts:

  • Shrink chassis round blacks to airtight.
  • Make wedge slightly steeper so middle ramplate can be level with others but HPZ's don't stick out of chassis at front.
  • Angle the blades less to reduce risk of being outflanked under them.
  • Use 80cm blades.
  • Lose the 2 casters at the sides
  • Add 1 caster at front under middle ramplate.
  • With remaining weight, either add more wedge protection or some armour on a BA above the other ramplates.

Any differing ideas?

Looking pretty good. What I'd do is swap the Spike Strips for 100cm blades, and angle them outwards by one click, so they'd be hit before the extenders or chassis when fighting a HS. At the moment, the extenders look pretty vulnerable.

Again, I'll have a look when doing the 2 black version.

i don't like those drive motors sticking out the front like that.

Easily solveable by moving the S-II back a tad.

What a great match. Loved it all.

Lost 1 black and a decent amount of chassis, made these alterations before seeing your post.

Still DSA, 4WD. 3 Blacks. 6 Razors per DDT. Wedges suck, but great killer of things it gets under.

Will prolly do another with another black and the single BA used to take up weight gone and the chassis tightened up even more around the blacks to see what else I can eek out of the design.

Rubbers. Yes, good point. Major brainfart there.

Unless I can get to 16kg free with shrinking chassis/1 less black I cannot protect the wedges (Already filled up RO7 btw). I'd get ballast instead then. I should get to 16 though. Plenty of weight to be lost at the back, given that I'm changing the cassis shape for 3 blacks instead of 4.

And yes, 2 DDT's.

Bleh, built a fairly standard HW popup.

DSA, 4WD HPZ, 4 Blacks (Will drop this to 3 and add ballast if I rebuild it. Also want to flip the DDT's).
