Site News and Feedback / Re: NC as Tech Adviser
« on: June 23, 2011, 08:47:35 PM »
I voted yes because I see no harm in it.  While NC is new, he does seem mature enough to handle the title without disrupting the forum and I think he has the potential to contribute in support of the title as well.  If he abuses it (can you really abuse being a tech advisor?)  we can just all rest assured with the age old prophecy:

"The ACAMS giveth. The ACAMS taketh away."

I'm confused as to why JD voted for Frost as the Unlickiest bot. Ounce is definitely deserving of that one, though.

Because he made a popup without realizing the finals would be a rumble.  And the popup was prison-raped in the end.

Strikes me as pretty unlucky.

Unfortunately, if you buy from a vendor... prepare to overpay for the machine.  Prebuilt gaming machines are terribly overpriced.

If you build the machine yourself, you can save a ton of money but you have to invest quite a bit of time and effort into it.

To answer your question though:

I am personally fond of Velocity Micro and Falcon Northwest Gaming machines.

TRIAS, you never sent your bot but it's on the exchange. Please inform me if this is your entry.
Note to people wanting to enter: READ ALL the rules carefully.

He said it needs to be skinned and AI-ed.

Sooooooo throw some Canadian Flag decals all over that sucker and we are good to go.

Wow. Seriously. Back on Topic please.

It did have about 80kgs of ballast in the front. And it only happened one in 5 times, according to Clickbeetle.
(I went through the BBEANS 5 thread yesterday. I was bored as heck.)

Yeah, but it is a testament as to how insanely flat the BBEANS arena is.

When I made Elle Driver for the following BBEANS... it could outwedge most everything in the Standard Combat arena (mainly because the door hinge would submerge it under the floor).  But when the bot competed in the BBEANS arena, the wedge was absolute crap.  Totally my fault though, I should have tested it in the BBEANS arena anyways.

But yeah... I wouldn't be surprised if a ballast-spammed chassis wedge done right could easily out-wedge Snapper wedges in the BBEANS arena because of the floor.  Just my opinion.

I know you hate me, so if you want to put me on the bottom with a Geo Metro I am cool with that.

Yeah, if you want a good wedge in the BBEANS arena... you are going to have to start all over.

I'll wait for 123stw to chime in with his factual information about the motors.

Y'know, bars, graphs, powerpoint presentation and all that jazz.  Then I can decide.

Very awesome film.  I wish I had seen it in the theaters.  It would have been a great crowd movie to enjoy.

Thanks man! I built Thunder for the lulz really. I'll jump at any opportunity to enter a big, lumbering, ineffective hulk of a robot with no hopes of winning.  Thanks for putting on this tourney!

Amazing amount of work man! Thanks for churning out the videos.  I haven't watched them (just woke up... about to go to work).  Looking forward to checking them out this eve.

Can you please change "no castor armour" to "no skirt hinge armour".  Thanks.  I think that makes more sense for a DSL tourney right?
