General Support / Re: Windows 7 problem
« on: September 30, 2010, 03:48:32 PM »
I tried version from Sage's sig, I wrote this above. I also searched before posting a question, but nothing helps.
I had it in F:\Gry\Robot Arena 2, moving to desktop didn't help.
Could this be some kind of codec problem? I noticed AC3 icons after crashes...

Witam rodaka :D.

I'm running the game on Win7 x64 without a problem. So it crashes only on "Test Robot"? Does it work on Exhibition?

I didn't see that as laughing at NFX in a friendly way.

I was just bloody poking fun at a stupid (don't say it isn't) pet peeve of his. I can't understand how possibly could this be mean.

Also, no need to whiteknight. Really, the man can speak for himself.

Not generally, but I despise people being unkind anywhere.

It's now considered unkind to laugh at anybody, even in a friendly way? What the hell.

Serge, don't be pathetic. There is no point in doing that.

You sure are serious about stuff going on on an internet forum.

Game Development / Re: Game Maker Botz!!!! VERSION 1.4 NOW AVAILABLE!!
« on: September 28, 2010, 02:49:32 PM »
Ugh.

I don't even know where to start. Is this even a game? If so, what's the goal? How do I win? Are there any points? Can you even win? Can you even lose?

If this was supposed to have something to do with robot combat, then I have a few more questions: Why do the bots bounce like ping-pong balls? Why are there absolutely no physics? Why don't the robots turn, but instead seem to have omni wheels? Why spinning weapons don't actually change anything? Do the bots ever get destroyed? Do they even get damaged at all?

This is bloody GameMaker, you just made a basic project, created two objects, slammed on textures, and you want us to think that it's a game. It's not. I can make more fun games using .bat files, or on my TI calculator during boring classes, and it's not that I ever received any formal education in any of these.

EDIT: Actually, disregard that, I suck cocks. I just saw that I tested an old version. BRB!
EDIT2: A bit better. But everything apart non-turning is still valid.

Nice. I wish I had a welding machine (and skills to use it).

EDIT: or wait, are these actually soldered together?

If the server wasn't written in goddamn Java, I'd run one.

Hm.

*adds a Python Minecraft server to his project list at place #2452*

Has  anyone here tried  the IE9 beta? It surprisingly decent.

Yes, it's actually pretty promising.

Although I am ashamed to say that I still probably won't use it due to extreme fanboyism :(.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Microsoft Outlook error message!
« on: September 22, 2010, 05:10:23 PM »
On my Mom's netbook, she can't send e-mails. She keeps getting an error message saying:

"Task 'pop.gmail - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC7D) : 'Your outgoing (SMTP) server does not support SSL-secured connections. If SSL-secured connections have worked in the past, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP)."

I've tried many fixes (including changing her outgoing mail server from smtp.gmail.com to smtp.googlemail.com and changing the outgoing port to 465) and it still isn't working.

I was wondering whether any of you guys had had the same problem and if you know how to fix it?

P.S - On the main computer in the house you can send messages. The main computers OS is Xp whilst my Mom's netbook is Windows 7.

Outlook is lame.

Check c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (open up in notepad), paste contents here.

Modifications / Re: An RPM-monitoring AI
« on: September 22, 2010, 05:07:55 PM »
Used the old code because the tickInterval attribute did not show up when doing a dir() on plus.AI.

Protip: do someObject.__dict__ next time :P.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Convert ISO/VOB to WMV? (and some other stuff)
« on: September 22, 2010, 12:34:59 AM »
The "proper" way of converting VOB files is
1) demuxing (splitting into audio and video)
2) loading that bitch up in VirtualDUB
3) configuring audio and video settings (to correct stretching, enable compression, whatever)
4) making sure that the audio isn't desync'd
5) exporting to a compressed AVI.

But I think HandBrake does it well, and is open source (= no spyware / bloatware).

Code: [Select]
self.revolution += plus.AI.__getattr__tickInterval__(self)

Why would you do such a horrible thing? Provided self is actually a plus.AI instance:

Code: [Select]
self.revolution += self.tickInterval

I just want something cheap, small, and something good for gaming and Graphics processing.

Ok, first of all, those parameters don't exactly go together in the world of computers.  Stuff that's good for gaming and graphics is gonna be expensive and somewhat big.

A few pointers:
  • Laptops are not good for gaming.  They're awful (I would know, I had to use a $500 Inspiron 1501 for gaming for about a year, it was heck).
  • Lenovo's (IBM's) are cheap because they're lacking.  They're designed for business applications: documents, e-mail, etc.  Thus, they don't have good video processing because they don't need it. Thinkpads are everything but cheap. They're built to last, they have excellent parameters (mostly very good processors), but yes, they're not made for gaming. If I were to buy a laptop today, I'd probably buy a Thinkpad.
  • Mac's aren't cheap, and they're generally not good for gaming because of the lack of compatibility with PC games. You can install Windows on a Mac without any problem. Unfortunately, they do lack performance, however they offer excellent build quality. I've seen Acer and HP Laptops fail after three years, while a 5-year old Macbook can be almost as expensive as a new one, and I've never seen a Mac with a hardware failure.
  • http://www.newegg.com/ is your best friend.  Learn it and use it well.  It has not failed me, and it will not fail you. Yes, newegg is bitchin'. I'd use it if I lived in the US.
  • Build your own computer.  It's not that hard, and once you learn to do it you never forget. This, this, and once more this. I've never bought a prebuilt PC in my life, and I laugh in the face of people who buy overpriced Dells Alienwares.
  • That being said, find ways to be a cheapskate about it.  I paid 0$ for my monitors, keyboard, speakers, hard drive, case, power supply, and DVD drive. Yes, of course. But some things need to cost much to be of good quality.

Other than that, I really need more information so I can get a ballpark estimate of what kind of computer you're looking for.
