I sent my second bot in the event of vacancies. Neither of my bots have a chance in hell of winning this, if anyone was worried.

Those vids have been hard to find; they were on a now-defunct network that rarely showed reruns.

I'm working on a second bot. Not Sonic, but something with equally spiky hair.

Real Robotics Discussion / Re: Sump Thing- Anyone remember it?« on: July 19, 2014, 11:41:30 PM »I've read through a lot of the Robot Wars-relayed topics. No one seems to mention Sump-Thing, even in the "most dissaointing" thread (lol). Despite not having much success, Sump-Thing is probably my favorite Robot Wars competitor. I'm a big fan of tourque-reaction hammer weapons (think overkill from battlebots), and I also think the team captain, Richard (Mr.) Dig was one of the best robot wars "personalities". I also think it's amazing that it was constructed almost entirely from scrap. Amount remember this robot?Disappointment implies that we had high hopes for Sump Thing 829

Wild Thing with new components. The old one just had a disc, this version has a big chunky flywheel like the original. The wedge is cinched off, and the angle adjusted. Also the lifting arm is moved so it can't be a good flipper anymore. May be a disadvantage, but it's only fair, this version never used its lifter as a weapon except one time against Chaos 2.

Mr. B is marked as no-show at both of those events, so he didn't get any camera time in the already-truncated event video.

General Support / Re: Game crashes in windowed mode« on: July 17, 2014, 08:19:05 PM »i'm having these kind of issues (or a similar one) for importing bots as well, on windows 8. it moves the window a tiny little bit when I import a bot and when i import 3 in a row the game freezes. You mean start from a clean copy and paste in a minimal amount of old files? 832

General Support / Re: Game crashes in windowed mode« on: July 15, 2014, 06:24:49 PM »I had this problem as well, mainly the Import Bot one. How many bots do you have in your Robots Designs folder? I had way too many at one point and kept crashing and running slow when I try to scroll downwards. I'm not sure if that means anything though.Lots, but I only have 20-odd skins and the custom texture thing crashes too. I really don't want to do fullscreen, because it comes with a wide variety of problems, such as orbit cam being slow as molasses, screenshots coming out as black, and extreme stretching. Have you tried using a lower resolution on fullscreen, like 640 x 480?I just tried that. No luck, sadly. Also, I had to set the ra2.cfg to read-only mode because it kept defaulting to high quality and MAXIMUM VOLUME (I deleted the THQ-esque opening sound so that I could stop getting heart attacks every time that happened.) Don't know if that's relevant, but if it helps, then great.Pretty sure setting it to read-only would cause exactly what you just said. 834

I assume they're a lot more stringent with weapon rules, since these vehicles have obvious weak points.

It may be generic, but it really captures the IRL spirit, and has decently efficient use of chassis space. I will warn you that chassis weight is calculated by surface area, not volume. That means that funky shapes like this will eat up a lot of weight. Don't trash this one, it's fine, but it's a helpful thing to know.
Also, you can stretch the BMP for your skin by 400%. It's a great way to get those details on the paintjob and make it look a whole lot sharper. 838
General Support / Game crashes in windowed mode« on: July 12, 2014, 11:44:49 AM »
I like to keep my game in windowed mode, because in fullscreen, it stretches a lot on my monitor. However, when I'm in certain selection menus, the game will crash if I linger too long. If I want to import a robot, I have to do it lightning fast to dodge the crash. Here's a full list of selection menus that cause my game to crash:

Modifications / Re: Robot Wars Magazine Arenas & Series 7 Competitor Components« on: July 11, 2014, 06:53:29 PM »Thanks guys. I'm not releasing a Beta of this, otherwise it would spoil the surprise. Hmm, a thought occurs to me - you could try using the "Chopper" AI. It's your standard smartzone-based AI, but the weapon won't fire if the robot is upside down. It also won't try to self-right if you have "invertible" set to "true" 840
