How thick are your sidewalls? Are you going to tap the armor mounting screw holes or use nutstrip?

You don't need the battle hardening. All it is is they loctite the gearbox together. It's not that hard to do. All you need is loctite and a pack of chinadeans. Kitbots even has instructions on their site. Yeah I know its for the OMFGBB 24 mm boxes but its basically the same process. The 1000rpm motors are pretty durable. I've only lost one and that was against Bushwacker. The all kitbots kits, Ripto, and Cohesion all run them and they rarely have failures.

Kitbots 1000rpm motors are basically the same thing as a B16. They don't like anything above 4s so I'd think it would be safe to assume that the B62 wouldn't be happy at that voltage either.
Any reason for using a B62 and over volting it? If its for drive 4 of theKitbots 1000rpm motors at 3s can push around 12 lbs. I have a couple of 3s 1000mah zippys and they work fine in my 3. 809

I've never built a 220 but I've built two 30's a 12 and a 3. I have two 2nd place finishes, three 3rd place finishes and I've only done worse than 3rd place once. I currently have the ranked #2 30s in the US. I've worked on 3 other robots and been on a FIRST team for the past three years. I used to work for a company that rented out combat robots for birthday parties. I'd like to think I have a little experience with robots.
No, it doesn't have to be the best thing ever. But what I'm trying to tell you is that you could do so much more for less money if you build in a lighter weightclass. 812

the question is how small can you make your robot and still make it functional.
Take all of your components dimensions and create cutouts of the components and lay them out to figure out how small you can build the robot. Its kinda like RA2. or you could do the same thing in a CAD program such as autodesk inventor or sketchup MikeNCR's ant Kolabos was 5 1/2" wide at its wedge and it frame was 3 3/4"wide. Its length was 4 1/2". Height was 3/4" 815
Robots Showcase / Re: Da Mekboyz« on: September 11, 2012, 06:54:26 PM »Hypnodisc started in the third wars, and ran a Lynch motor. and the lynch is a pretty badass motor.... I know the stuff can't stand up to a spinner (Hypnodisc could slice through it in Series 2), but again I'm not Team Whyachi so I will have to make do with what I can get for the time being. Dude that is a terrible build philosophy. A thrown together from scrap robot will preform like a thrown together from scrap robot... I think it would be better for you to forgo your ego and stop building a 220 until you get more experience. Realistically you've never been to a competition, you don't have any money to build it correctly and assuming you are planing to take it to combots and robogames you have no money to ship it there. (It will cost you about three grand to ship everything: tools, robot, spare parts there and back.) You seriously need to attend a competition before you go out and build a robot. Youtube videos don't do the destruction and forces involved justice. Its also a chance to talk to builders and see their bots and how they are built. I've never seen a good robot from a rookie whose never been to a competition and I've been competing for a few years now. Instead of building a 220 maybe you should consider building a 30 and attending an event with it before you invest a crap ton of money in a 220. Also it doesn't hurt that there are more events for 30s on the east coast. 816

It looks like people use flamethrowers to get around the active weapon requirement, if it's still enforced. Sportsman class rule Where I read it was PVC. I still wouldn't buy it. It's mystery aluminumTM and lexan of unknown thickness and weighs "n". Most of the parts such as the motors, hubs, and esc would need to be replaced anyways. I can attest to the killability of a Sabertooth. I've killed a 2x12 in a 3lb robot with serious shock mounting. Stuff just kinda pops off the board. 819
