DSL TC Showcases / Re: Virus Bomb DSL Showcase

Looks pretty cool. I'm wondering if it'll work as well when it's inverted,  or if the ice picks will lift the back wheels off the ground. It's quite hard to make out the Spike Strips, though, the skin conflicts with them a little bit.

So no mention of NAR AI, yet FOTEPX's Batteryless Spinner Glitch is here ?
That threw me a little bit. Nar AI is the pinnacle of DSL building, and the Batteryless Spinner glitch is, it needs to be said, pretty much useless. It seems to be a list of useful links mostly related to Stock, though, with the 36HS link and Restocked and INF AI, that might be the reason Nar AI isn't in there.

This will certainly save time, though, we just need to make sure the threads don't get locked or deleted in some way.

I've been messing around with the UI a little bit more. Still not sure about .gib stuff, but I've been trying to find a coherent theme for the Bot Lab. Coming along nicely, though, I reckon. =)

Been a good year, hasn't it? Didn't you get Best Newcomer somewhere?

DayZ is a bitch to install.

And is anyone else watching the Grand Prix Qualifying?

I watched it right the way through. Was getting very interesting, up until the last couple of minutes of Q3. Was still interesting, but not quite so much.

^this

No SFTWs please. I want bots to be at least semi-competent.

Define "semi-competent"

Not simply substandard DSL. Like normal DSL building with inefficient components. You need to at least put in some aesthetic stuff, such as the supports for a perm axle.

You need a 32-bit Bitmap file type, with a square resolution of a power of two, such as 256x256, 512x512, or 1024x1024. Anything higher, and the detail starts to become unnoticeable in-game. If you don't have that, then the game won't recognise it. Also, make sure you have Auto-Detect turned off when you're saving it.

If you have a file name with a period in it (full stop, "."), then that'll mess it up. I did once end up with a .png image detected as a .LOL file because of the name I'd given it. You can get around this by simply renaming it, and adding a .bmp extension at the end.

Crash bandicooot <3

Pity it started going downhill after the wrath of cortex.

Wrath of Cortex was the first Crash Bandicoot game that was made after Naughty Dog left Universal Interactive Studios, who still owned the rights to the Crash Bandicoot franchise. That probably had something to do with it.

Who here played Spyro or Crash Bandicoot as a kid?

All the time. =D I've completed Crash Bandicoot 2 twice, and Spyro 3 four times. Both of them are still in my Top 10 video games, Spyro's probably in my Top 5. I would say they're better than some of the big shoot-em-up games nowadays, such as Halo and Call Of Duty. I play video games to escape reality, not simulate it. And if I wanted to simulate it, I wouldn't want to simulate war.

Matilda's tusks were Hydraulic in The First Wars, but they appeared to be changed to pneumatics for Series 2, as they were a lot faster with lifting machines. If you saw Matilda in the House Robot introductions in the later wars, her tusks were definitely firing with the ferocity of a pneumatic system.
Yes- in the First Wars House Robot introductions, they lifted and lowered very slowly. But yes, I did see the later introductions as well- I remember her throwing a brick into the air with her tusks for the Series 5 introduction. Gives a sense of how much the House Robots improved over time, really   :approve:

Keep in mind that the crew were only given six and a half weeks to design and build all four House Robots for the first wars. Plus, with the level of technology at the time, they were probably going to be a bit rubbish compared to nowadays. As the wars progressed, and as the technology available became more advanced, they could build upon what they already had, which you can especially see in how Dead Metal and Sergeant Bash improved, just from Series 1 to 3. I actually preferred the style of the original four House Robots, rather than the later four (with the exception of Refbot), where they made them look like stuff.

The version of Matilda in that one competition doesn't count - it's a replica.
Well, the shell used was one actually made pre-series one for Matilda. A few shell were made so that it could be quickly repaired if broken etc.

I believe the one on Matilda now was owned by one of the roboteers (possibly Alan Gribble), but the rest of the robot is not the same.
Right, so that'd explain the smaller tusks and things. Too bad they're not pneumatic, either.
They're still pneumatic to my knowledge
Really? Last time I'd checked, they ran on electric power.

GF deserves some rep for this... Can someone with such ability +1 him on my behalf? Thanks in advance...
Very kind of you   :approve:

Hmm. Bindings line looks okay, so it may be to do with the Teams.txt file in the AI folder. Make sure you have the line "Robots: 0", rather than "Robots: 0 1 2 3 4 5", because you've only got one robot in your team at the moment. If you have any other values, the game will try to call up robots that do not exist, that may be what's causing the crash.

It's nothing to do with your computer, it's more likely a bindings problem. Copy and paste the bindings like here, so we can see what's happened with it. All binding lines need four spaces at the start of the line, that's a common mistake made early on, as is forgetting the correct amount of brackets.
