Tournament Archives / ELBITE Matches MOBILE - Mail Notifications Thread
« on: September 04, 2010, 08:02:32 AM »
Welcome those who tune into ELBITE and/or are competing,

Due to the fact that ELBITE's integrated Challonge! bracket system has a feature that allows for competitors to be notified on how they fared in their match ups, I would like to give the option for competitors to, upon request, be notified in an email message on their results pertaining to their progress in the Super Tournament. This is entirely voluntary, but I think it would help be of some convenience for those who are "on the go" often or if you have some video capability on a mobile device.

  What's the convenience?

ELBITERS will be able to simply check their email to see how one of their bots did during a matchup. In the email, a user will receive the following:

1. Tournament bot picture cards (see intro to match videos, the gray stat card thingies) showing weapon, strengths and weaknesses, etc. These cards may be more or less more in depth than the ones seen in the   videos.

2. Downloadable Tournament .bot file.

3. Matches your bot competed in thus far as well as a Direct Link to the corresponding match video(s).

4. Link to the forums and the elbite website (duh).

  Spam?

Of course not. You will ONLY be notified of your personal matches. This is simply an added benefit for signing up in the tournament.

Well, what if I'm not competing?

If you are not entered into ELBITE, you still have some benefits in being notified, all of which only pertain to non-competitors:

1. Upon request, receive a tournament card on your favorite bot, showing stats, strengths and weaknesses.

2. Matches your favorite bot competed in thus far as well as an   indirect link to the corresponding match video(s) through ELBITE's forum thread.

3. Link to the forums and the elbite website (duh).

Awesome! How do I sign up?

Simply post your response in this thread, telling me that you would like to sign up. To do that look at the following:

Quote from: Rawflesaurus
  Sure! Sign me up!

  Email: rawfle[NOSPAM]@hotmail.com

In this format, the text [NOSPAM] is just there to prevent spam bots from seeing your post and spamming you. Put it somewhere in your email when posting to do so. This is NOT part of your email address and will be omitted when I notify you.

That's all?

Indeed. But remember, you will only be NOTIFIED. Please do not respond to the notifications or ask questions in the emails, the auto-mailer won't respond back.

Enjoy, Gig

Ah thanks Somebody, I get confused with such things at times, I'll change accordingly.

I also resolved the FPS (skipping) issue. I had to change Fraps so it saves the movie files to an external hard drive, gaining some FPS. Expect smoother vids from here on out guys.

EDIT: The next movie is done uploading... Whoop vs Indestructable!

So.... The spider turned out OK right? Could've had some serious burns or something. :D

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: worried about the forums direction.
« on: August 25, 2010, 12:39:47 PM »

@Sage & Ian: In my opinion, there isn't anything terribly wrong with getting a few new members every now and then. As many have said before, think of it this way. An old outdated, non existant game is once again gaining a community. It's quite a phenomenon.  Now I do question the purpose of the "Story Time Threads" as it would relate to RA2 - Personally I think one offtopic thread would be enough. Just like the old forum.

But in that regard, I'm sure there are people who sign up here because of their interest in the game (or at least I hope). In a sense, this community, no matter how "N00b Infested" is really the only thing keeping the essence of Robot Arena alive. And if there are some new people who are trolling, let em'. We have a good staff who are more than willing to keep them in check. We're obviously doing something right to keep having new members join.

EDIT: I do however wish that there was a section on our forum that allows people to introduce themselves. Most forums have some sort of "Introduce Yourself" thread. I feel if we include one, it will solve a lot of issues. I also personally think that people who just join the community shouldn't have the privilege to create a tournament thread at all - not even an idea for one. Atleast until maybe after a month or so that option could be available. I agree that it could be a pain to see someone who no one knows try to make one.

Currently working on them... College project midterms threw me off so last week was not possible. These videos have been held long enough. Prelims WILL be finished by the end of Wednesday (no school) and I'll probably try to throw in another on Friday if I have time left. Please bear with my college life, I know its annoying for these dates to change occasionally. All I can say is that it happens. I'll be making up this lost time with more videos; It's only fair.

TOURNAMENT PREDICTIONS:

PRELIMS:

Invisible Pink Unicorn vs Berserk Killer: IPU for this match's win. Those extenders on Berserk Killer don't look too reliable and will possibly be its downfall.

Agitator JR vs Residential Madness:  Agitator has the upper hand in terms of power. Unless the smaller RM can somehow get to that exposed Perm? I have my doubts. Agitator should win all bouts in this round.

ROUND 1:

Tunneler vs IPU: All Tunneler would have to do is immobolize the Sns and gut rip it. It is also well armored enough to prevent any serious blows from IPU. I strongly believe that IPU will most likely lose this match. Tunneler should win all bouts for this round.

Sega 32X vs Glacier: Both bots are wedgy. It will all come down to who goes underneath who first. That being said, Sega32X has a slight advantage over that skirt hinge of Glacier with its lower profile and the metal sheet/stock wedge combo. But who knows? Perhaps Glacier will be able to get access to that largely exposed bottom of Sega. Nonetheless, I'm rooting for Sega32X for this bout's win. It should at least win 2/3 of its matches.

Sparkplug vs Kulpa: Kulpa simply will not have the friction to win this bout. It's best chance is if it somehow deals enough damage to destroy the incredibly pushy Sparkplug. Sparkplug should win all three matches, unless it somehow isn't able to knock Kulpa OOTA. Even then, it should win by at least immobolizing the crawler.

Purple-xed vs Electronic: Expect a pretty straightforward match. S_M's popup should win everytime, getting under Electronic's chassis for a knock-out gut rip - despite the speed advantage of J24's Electronic. As a matter of fact, this may actually risk the rammer an OOTA or two.

Agitator JR vs Darkblade 2.5: My odds are against my own bot in this bout. It all comes down to the basics, HS>VS. Perhaps if the slow driving Darkblade could somehow muster up enough force to flip SKBT's Agitator it may have some chance, but I highly doubt it. Even though Darkblade may have a weapon advantage it is simply out-matched here.

Vector BLING vs Enigma X: A legendary matchup and one that will probably bring tears to my eyes -sniff-. A hammer vs a flipper. To be quite honest I have my feelings towards G.K.'s Enigma. I WANT it to win, since it has no weaponry other than its flipping power. It has a lot of heart but that will, of course, not guarantee it this match. However, I still think it has a good chance of winning through an OOTA or two, and even though Doom's dreaded Vector BLING may win by destroying it. My hopes are on it at least staying in one peice until the 30 seconds are up. Then we shall see who wins. I hope I'm right on this one!

Indestructible vs Whoop: A Sns vs a Rammer. What else needs to be said? FOTEPX has this in the bag. This is unless Somebody's Whoop manages to pop off those big wheels of his for an immobolization win.

MeatCleaver vs Backfire: Four words for you in reference this match. EXPOSED DDTS ON EXTENDERS! 027's Backfire should have no problem gnawing off the arms of Joda's stock-based bot, MeatCleaver. But truth be told, MeatCleaver may be able to whack at its sides for some easy points. Being that it is a larger bot, it should easily be able to hit Bfs wheels as well - may not do much though.

ROUND 2:

Sega 32X vs Tunneler: Tunneler is simply more pushy. It may be close, but I have high hopes that Tunneler will win this match.

Sparkplug vs Purple-xed: Purple-xed is more wedgy. And Sparkplugs lack of any wedges could cost it its match. Once the popup gets under, its all over.

Agitator JR vs Vector BLING: Agitator will win this bout. All of those weak extenders may not stand the beating of those sledges once Vector wedges underneath the HS, this may render it pretty harmless afterward.

Backfire vs Indestructable: The exposed sides of Backfire will be hearty eating for the Rammer. The only hopes that it really has for a win is if it is somehow able to score through rolling its aversary over or through a gut rip, but Indestruct is probably too front heavy for such a thing to be succesful without the drum taking a lot of damage.

SEMIS:

Purple-xed vs Tunneler: This match witll be a big one. Tunneler shouldn't have a problem wedging in this bout but it really comes down to who gut-rips who first. Neither bots have bottom protection so we shall see who wins this one. More or less, I will be rooting for Tunneler.

Indestructable vs Agitator JR: Being a Rammer, Indestructable should, without a doubt, have no problem winning the semis match. But as I am only predicting, anything can happen.

FINALS:

If my predictions succeed, the match with Tunneler vs Indestruct should be a no brainer. Tunneler should simply gut rip it for a win. But who really knows?

Amazing job Click! As usual.

@Joe: Apologies for making you work extra. I let click know that you were working on a collab thing, but I am aware of your guy's busy schedules (I can relate as well. College,  car died a couple of days ago, for starters...) I was surprised anyone started on the arena.
Once the tesla coil is all scripted and ready to go, it can instead be added into the second tournament, just to make things quicker.

This tournament will have no hazards besides the OOTA walls, in that time you can take your time (you, click, mad and whoever else) to make any revisions if you'd like. We can use Click's for tournament 1. Skins aren't too bad, just have to clean it up a bit.

New vids this week. And thanks again you guys for helping out.
