Modifications / Re: IRL Components - Pack Four Discussion

I've repackaged Pack Three, after potentially spotting what caused a lot of people to have difficulty opening the Rar file. Seems to be caused by WinRar packing the file in a newer format that cannot be read by older versions of WinRar. Can those who had this issue please try re-downloading and opening that file (there is an _r amended to the end of the filename to differentiate between them), and reporting if it can be opened, or if there is still an issue.

TL;DR If you had issues before, re-download. Also update your damn copy of WinRar.

Good this is that I can finally open it!

Bad news is that some components STILL crash the game. A perfect example would be white extenders. Also, is it just me or the armor panel selection isn't complete for me? Things like green and red are missing. I even tried on a new copy!

Hey hey hey, welcome to the forums!

Vert has the potential to be a nice bot. I'd suggest giving it some wedgelets as chassis wedges are not great. Also, try replacing the drive for Slimbodies. You dont have to, but try shrinking the chassis. Ant Batteries aren't that great, so I'd suggest replacing those with the long black ones or the car battery. Also, you really need to protect the motor. That can easily get sniped by hammers. What's the armor on it?

As for Flipper Time, the only things I could really suggest is shrinking the chassis. Too much free space. You could also replace the flipper arm with regular flipper segments. But if you really want to use a snowplow, use one with more HP. Maybe even thicken the arm to make it look more realistic. Same question with Vert, what's the armor?

It sure is.
since I'm a newbie and want to learn about good bot building, do you use some beta motors for the flippers, before positioning the flippers to a proper position?
Any burst motor technically can be used as a flipper, but Beta Motors are one of the best, alongside Judge Burst Motors.

aye aye aye local newbie here

If you don't have room for a Beta burst, you can try Wide Mediums, Magbursts, and Storm bursts. Personally, I prefer Storms/Wide Mediums, but eh.

they both look pretty good. simple designs, but that's usually what works better. may want to work on Astronaut's skin to make it cooler

Aye, will do.

First MW of the showcase! Acid Witch. Named by NeonCalypso! Drive is fast NPCs. Armor is 3mm Al and the weapon extenders are Al. Entering this guy into Masters of Disaster 2. Hopefully it won't fall due to battery life.

Agh, sorry for double posting..

First IRL bot posted here! Astronaut 13 is a pretty cool build IMO. Drive is regular NPCs. Top of the flipper is Ti and the bottom is Steel. Forgot what the armor is. If I remember, it's 3mm Ti. Bursts are Wide Mediums.

Latest IRL bot that I built, [REDACTED]. It's a ring spinner! The teeth are large and small Typhoons and Ti wedges. Armor if I remember is also 5mm Ti. It might be a bit spammy on the teeth, but I'm not sure.

The first robot has to be an edited version.
Once you enter it, it stays around until the end.

So I can't reenter an unchanged bot?
You can, but it's not recommended.  Pretty sure you just took my sentence out of context.

Dang, why is it so hard to understand this tourney?

If you enter Season 1 with a robot, you can upgrade it for Season 2 as well as enter a new one. That's right isn't it, Gulden? Or have I misunderstood too?
This exactly.

Ah! Okay. I geddit now.

I'd like to see belt variations of motors, Piglet, E-Tek, Tmwr, Tornado Mer, 6 Mags and Dual Perms

THIS. Also, different wheel colors? It could really help with replicas like Stinger: TKB or Carbide. even if i dont do replicas

Both could look better. Cloudburst especially isn't a looker. Either way, their internals are pretty neat and organized, so not bad at all.
How could I improve their looks? CBurst I still plan to skin soon.
it would be really nice if you would stop putting your images in spoilers, it makes it really hard to find specific bots
Right then.

Here is the brand new Locked Cage! I really should have named it Locked Cage II. The internals are mostly the same except the drive is now 4 SlimBody motors. I changed the armor from 10mm Plastic to 5mm Ti. Plus, cool skin.

Right! I'm back and I'm ready to post more robits.

I do have more bots (and revisions of old bots!) to show off, but for now, these are the ones I will show off.

I had another idea this time about the Drums.
Would anyone else think it would be a good idea if they came in different weights as well as size, like extenders?
So you could have Small alu, tita and steel etc etc and the heavier materials have better HP

This.

Might I suggest different bar colors?

Monsoon looks improved, but it has no protection other than a back armor plate, that should be moved to the front.

What's with the back weapon on Everything At Once? For now, it looks like a weight waster.

Aye, thanks! I should really give Monsoon some front protection, eh? Will do that.

EAO's back weapon is there to give her more firepower, as the popup weapon doesn't do as much damage as you'd expect a popup to do.

Aw dang, another problem.

In the fix that I was given, clicking on some parts [Ex. White extenders] crashes the game. :^(

Hiya, guys! Sorry for being a bit inactive here.

you dont have to put a spoiler for your pictures

I do it to not make my replies super long.

Hello, seeing new people build is always nice. I can tell a lot of time went in to crafting the intricate shape of Monsoon 2, but if your goal is to make an even more competitive DSL-S robot then I'll share some knowledge with you:

[ok I deleted a paragraph here - I read "not a mako clone" as "mako clone" but whatever]

Secondly, there are a lot of areas where your Monsoon can be improved. Srimechs are pretty cool, but most VS have a weapon that is strong enough to flip the robot over when upside down, and simply going off of that is great for competitive VSes because then they don't have to spend weight on the srimech. From what I can see, the wedge is made from an extended skirt hinge, but your robot will be wedgier if you use multiple single ones (having the wedges connected into one big wedge is worse). Also, the wedge and probably the front end of the robot should be wider. This allows for wider wedges and more area for an opposing robot to sit on. Lastly, having stray iron spikes isn't the most efficient use of weight. I know I'm killing the aesthetic look of your robot with those last two pieces of advice, but they would help with maximizing the effectiveness of the robot in combat, if that's what you care about (and generally is what the DSL-S building style focuses on).

Noted, and put into action!

And a brand new bot, Everything At Once.

I did what Naryar said I should do, and the old Monsoon became pretty stable from before. I also replaced the drive to a slower one, but it's much more controllable. Unfortunately, I feel like I won't revisit the old Monsoon design any time soon, so no pictures. :frown:
