WinRAR's the thing with the glitchy 'free trial' that never runs out, right? You should be able to just use the free trial.

General Support / Re: Problem with Tanto in Robot Wars Mod

Anyone come up with anything yet?
I've noticed that some of the AI robots and the replicas in the 'Robot Designs' folder are actually different (this is usually indicated by the weight; I noticed Replica Ripper was heavier than AI Ripper) so have you tried

copying the AI Tanto bot file,
pasting that into the 'Robot Designs' folder,
modifying the forward heading on that robot / re-wiring the controls on that robot,
then exporting it and putting it back in the Team42 folder?

If that doesn't work, you may want to try re-downloading the mod, seeing as the Tanto Fix thingy Craaig uploaded hasn't worked either.

Oh- Damnit, ninja'd by the man himself!

It'd be an interesting reminder to us in the future when we're making much better RA3 botm robots but 5 days to make a bot and splash may be too little time.
You sure? I know it wasn't exactly very good quality, but I made my may BOTM entry in about a day or two and it seemed fine (it did get some votes, if any.)
Personally, I don't know how many days one should spend on making a bot and a splash, so I guess I can't say too much about this.

Can take picture on RA3?
Yes. Steam has a screenshot feature where if you press... F11, I think... it takes a screenshot. It's either F11, F12 or F5.

Just to ask, what would count as standard building for RA3? We don't really know what there is to build with, so wouldn't everything be pretty much standard?

Last night was evidently not good for me. Middle of my final uni exam period, I had an exam yesterday and had been drinking. I am stressed beyond belief even without this situation; Take that as you will.
I honestly figured it was something along those lines (or at least something that stressed you out massively.). I was revising for a IT exam last night (which was today) and I spent 4+ hours trying to go through every possible question that could come up in the paper. Was very tired and was not in a good mood afterwards, which is why I refrained from posting in the thread in case I said something that wasn't well thought out. So I can completely understand where you're coming from.
Tom; Don't even worry man. Haven't read your message as of yet but I don't need to honestly, you're a great user who wants whats best for the community, and that's exactly why we got you covering the Tournament section.
...I can't really think of anything else I can add to that other than a thank you to Yugitom.

The RA3 Will be free?
I'm afraid not, this is something we'll all be buying (except if you're a dirty filthy pirate in which you'll be illegally acquiring it.)

I just believed GTM could get past old feelings if the member shows improvement, which Goon has. It's everyone else that hasn't changed.

yes because making a thread asking if someone is autistic is definitely showing improvement
When'd he do this? On the HA account? On the Goon account?
It was yesterday and about you; https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=18959.msg700913#msg700913
That was him asking if I was autistic? Looked more like it was referring to my profile image to me...
I have Asperger Syndrome, so he's not even wrong about me being autistic anyway.

Wasn't Terrorhurtz unable to be flipped in this or something? I recall that robot being literally impossible to flip.

He's hasn't done anything wrong yet, so I think it'd be unfair to form such a negative opinion of him, regardless of what he was like with his other account.

You have no idea how he was back then. And no, I believe it is very fair if people form negative opinions about ex-disruptive members.
...Fair enough, I guess I didn't know. It just didn't seem quite right (at least, in my opinion) to assume he'll be disruptive again. But as you said, I have no idea what he was like. He seems OK so far, though...

I honestly think we- never mind, I'd basically be saying what Craaig said except it wouldn't be worded as well.

And yes, I am willing to leave if goon stays. I don't want it to come to that, though.
That's kinda childish IMO. Let's be honest; no-one's gonna really be bothered if you, or any other standard member leaves. The forums aren't gonna collapse so leaving won't change a thing.

We kinda can't kick HA out if we let LRA2 / Avalanche stay. Just wouldn't seem fair. At least that's how I see it.

(I mean that as in "let them both stay" and not "kick both out")

As for the ant, hah, I just made a generic flipper with wedge corners on it like everything else I've done.
Was the flipper working at Portsmouth? I wasn't sure if it was when I saw someone driving it in the Antweight Arena.

You really gotta resize these things before uploading them dude
I think that's because they were uploaded from a mobile phone. I usually think it's better to not downsize them because it's likely that the quality could be buggered up massively. That's just me, though, I can see why people would prefer downsized pictures. Still, though...
Definitely this. I skip over extremely large images 9/10 times and never look at them again.
Couldn't you just wait for them to load up? Doesn't seem like the best of reasons to "never look at them again" IMHO.

I'll try this when I get back from the RW Live event in Manchester.

Hm? Manchester? That was like 2 weeks ago :P

It's kinda like TF2 in pacing and the whole objective thing. Bit less cartoony, and instead of different loadouts for each character you just have different characters.
Sounds interesting! And I meant Portsmouth, sorry.

I'll try this when I get back from the RW Live event in Manchester.

Just asking, is it at all similar to TF2? And if so, how similar?

There's some large images below (blame my iPhone for that) so please wait until they load in properly and they're resized.
Very nice first BotM!
Thanks!
Nice replica, but definitely consider not using those weapon motors for drive ;)
I may seem like a bit of an idiot for asking this, but what's exactly wrong with using the piglets? They seemed quite powerful...
Heavyweight looks cool, I'd say more what's stopping it being IRL is the lack of substantial axle support and the big flat wedges than the dual discs though.
I see what you mean about the wedges. I was looking at the bot in the editor and thought "oh that looks like it'd do a front flip if it collided with another robot" so I figured a wedge would stop the bot from tipping over after it hit something (I've seen some of my Stock bots do this.) Not exactly sure what I'd need to put on for there to be substantial axle support, though.
Very low on weaponry for a standard bot but definitely shows promise, a less showy/complex/wasteful chassis shape will help you get some weight for other bits if you want to take the standard route. :)
...Yeah, the chassis...  :dumb) That was literally me trying to make the thing furthest away from 'a box on wheels' that I could imagine. Wasn't a clever idea in hindsight... thanks for the feedback!

Righty, I have another bot to share! This one's in a weight class I've never really tried to build in.

Yeah, Antweight. Not too sure what's effective weaponry for antweights. This is actually a recreation of something; I'll get onto what it is in a moment.
This marks the first time I've tried reskinning components! I think it went well. The flipper's more powerful than it should be; it was able to toss over the car in the testing arena. I think there was some glitches involved...

Oh, I would show more images of it in-game, but the bot is busy right now.

He's having a look at his physical 'brother' undergoing some changes.

AND HERRRRRRRRE WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE GO!

I'm finally starting to get into DSL again. I'm already loving the different extenders in the game; they're FAR better than stock's extenders.
To start off, how about my BOTM entry?

I personally thought this would've been easy to guess who made it. Kinda 'meh' design, massive amounts of text, repetition of one colour being used; these are things in my other splashes that shown up in this one too.
Personally, I'm happy with both the splash and the design, although I can see why other people didn't like it as much.

That's not the only thing I have to share.
This is a DSL recreation of my first Stock heavyweight, "Wings of Fire". I think this could count as IRL if I put on 1 disc instead of 2 because none of the components intersect each other and it's built believably (not built well, but believably) however as long as there's 2 massive discs on the robot, I think this would be classed as DSL-Standard.

I'll probably edit this post later; I'm at school at the moment and I'm pressed for time so there's not much more I can share. I do have more to share, though, so I'll be updating this showcase later.

Oh, this ended? Didn't notice. Well done to... whoever made #3! Sorry, it doesn't say who made what bot; not sure if it's supposed to.

I'm actually amazed mine got any votes at all. I made bot and the splash in about 4 hours and just procrastinated on Need For Speed for the rest of the deadline. Reeeeeeeeeallllly didn't put much as much thought as I probably should've into the bot.

By the way, the title in my splash was referencing this;

That also prompted all of the strikethroughs in the text. I probably overdid it, in hindsight.
