Been a while since I posted anything, so I saw this thread and figured, what the hell ....

One of my fleet of pocketbikes, and the most modified, The Rat:

Wrench chain guard: "flat-bar" wrenches - top one is a 19mm/22mm from a Yamaha tool kit.
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp127/SpyGuy/The%20Rat/WrenchChainGuard02.jpg

Brass knuckle fender: Okay I lied - it's not really brass.  From left to right, those are box-ends from a 5/8", 11/16", 5/8", and 9/16" wrenches.  Crossbar on back is rest of handle from 9/16" wrench, supports between main body and crossbar are Allen wrenches, brackets to fork legs are gate hinges.

Some of my welded artwork (picked up a little Harbor Freight MIG welder, 90-amp, 110v fluxcore wirefeed, no gas):

Something for Urjak - my big spider, built from bicycle rims:

You can always make a copy of the original skin, and then modify the copy.  Re-save the original skin under another name (like "originalbattery2.bmp"), and then rename your modified skin with the original skin's name.  Works well - i did that with my Sears DieHard battery skin.

FOR SALE:

ONE USED WIFE, 1959 MODEL.

-Needs muffler, as is currently very loud.  Intake valve stuck in open position.
-Rear end needs major overhaul, a crack there has grown monstrously large.
-Needs re-wiring, many wires are currently crossed.
-Lots of little dings in the body, which have been covered up with too much paint in a failed attempt to camouflage them.
-Needs re-upholstering, carpet has turned a dingy gray.
-Needs front-end work, headlights are too close to the ground and fenders are too far apart.
-May not pass emissions test, as it currently produces large clouds of malodorous gases on a regular basis.
-Heater works great, hot air is never short in supply.
-Asking $500 or trade for 1985 model.

Andrew, something I like doing is taking the original songs by the original artists, and using Adobe Audition 1.5 to speed them up a little.  What's nice about Audition is that you can save and record the songs at their sped-up versions - "on 45", as I like to call them.  I usually go about 1/2 to 3/4 speed beyond the normal playing speed.

If you have Adobe Audition, try messing around with "Blue Moon" by The Marcels and "Lick It Up" by KISS.  If you get the speeds just right, you'll howl ..... Being a DJ has its crazy side, too.

Oh, another fun thing to do with the music: Sound Recorder (Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment) has a neat little feature that allows you to reverse the music.  Try that with "Fire On High" by ELO (Electric Light Orchestra).

Just for reference, guys, I'm 5'9, and the Purple Beastie is the same size as The Rat and The Zombie.  The Green Machine is actually slightly larger.  Several of the guys I ride with are in the 5'10-6'3 range, and can all fit comfortably on these bikes (and yes, some of the bigger guys do have midbikes, which are about the size of the chopper.  The chopper, btw, is about 2/3 scale.)

The Rat was almost a complete wreck when I got it - it had been very badly abused by a previous owner who was using a street bike as an off-road bike.  The only saving grace was that the engine turned over.  All the fairings were trashed, so I decided not to rebuild the bike as "stock," like the Purple Beastie (okay, that one's not exactly stock anymore, either, but that's another story).  Instead, I was going to rebuild the bike "redneck style," using whatever materials I had onhand to give the bike a unique look.  Some of the more interesting features of the bike include:
-DuPont spraycan muffler
-Altoids can air cleaner
-Dremel wrench killswitch cover
-BMX Mongoose footpegs
-Duct tape on front fork tube holding down brake cable (can't be a ratbike without duct tape!)
-Volkswagon gas filter
-Gas tank hardmounted to frame
-Wire mesh between seat and tank
-Custom seat made from gluing seatpad to 22-gauge steel sheet, cut to shape, then bolted to bike, using a cut-down office keyboard track for support
-Custom brackets for everything are in the works

I'm not going to list the other stuff I did with the engine, as it's a little technical and you guys probably wouldn't understand most of it, anyway.  Needless to say, though, the engine has been mildly warmed up.  The Rat can hit 30mph+ on a straight stretch.

Why a ratbike?  Why not?  Because it was a challenge seeing what I could do with what I had onhand.  Because it was a slap in the face to all the owners of the prettied-up bikes with their loads of chrome and 32 coats of hand-rubbed paint and wax.  Because it was different, something no one else had done before.  I wasn't trying to build a race bike - that's why I bought the Beastie.  This bike was for me, and for fun.  This is my signature bike, the one I'm most known for on PBP.

If you're interested in browsing through the pictures of my bikes on my PhotoBucket album, here's the link:

Edit: here's the belt buckle.
Okay, so I was bored ...... Yes, I suppose I could have ordered one online (actually, I did :p), but it was more fun and challenging to make one instead.

Buckle is made from 2" square tube, cut lengthwise.  Belt buckle backing plate was drilled and screwed on (backwards!    Fixed now ....).  Hinge was from a cabinet door. Locking bar was from same thin-gauge section as end pieces.  Nuts were welded inside the buckle for the screws, and also to even out the surface on which the iPod was going to rest.  A hole was cut in the end for the headphone jack.

Whole project took about eight hours, a good half of which was shaping the pieces in the first place, grinding, and polishing.  Still a little rough, needs some more cleanup work, but the iPod fits securely inside, and the locking bar makes sure it stays there.  Now I have my tunes always at hand (literally)!

Edit: got the iPod buckle I ordered today ... get this: Buckle is 1/2" smaller in length than the one I built, 1/4" thinner, and the holes for the headphone jack and lock are drilled in the wrong places.  I think I'll be sticking with mine .... (Yeah, this one's going back.)
