One thing you could try is switching out the ramplates for plows. Plows are wider and 4kg lighter, which is handy against any wide bots like HS and SnS (although some people are starting to limit or ban SnS, especially the ones with Melty Brain driving). With this extra weight, you could move the VS motors to anchors--I recommend this because I have found that snappers generally aren't that good for VS. After that, the bot will still most likely weigh under 770kg, leaving enough weight left to stack another black in there. Even though one black will power 6 spin motors for three minutes, two blacks will power 6 spin motors for three minutes with minimal decrease in power by the end. This is the principle that 36HS have followed, and continue to follow, and most likely will follow until the inevitable and fire-laden death of the planet on which we live (but enough about electing Donald Trump).

Robot Wars Series 1

This was my first go at playing with Omni's.

What are omnis? Can't comment on the difference till I know what it is :P

I think he's talking about bots that use Omni.py.

What you are doing is bumping a thread. Bumping is defined as posting in a thread that has not been posted in for a while. This is frowned upon, and is only considered acceptable if it is by the thread creator to talk about an important update. Whether or not a post is bumping is up to your judgement, but a good general rule is to avoid posting in threads that have not been posted in for at least a week. In the mean time, send Sic a personal message with your request.

Welcome to Gametechmods, Jules!

I really like the animation here. That hit by the spinner reminds me of Son of Whyachi vs. Nightmare from the old Battlebots. If you got enough models, this could become an animated Robot Wars-like show.

I'm actually thinking about participating in this one. I have done nothing around here robot-wise in months, and even without making new bots I have lots of options on potential team combos.

A man is training to be a monk, and is being evaluated by the elder monks over a period of three years. As part of his training, the man has to take an oath of silence, and is only allowed to say two words at the end of each year. The end of the first year of evaluation comes, and when asked to say his two words, the man in training says "Bed hard." At the end of the second year, his words are "Food sucks." Finally, at the end of the third year, his two words were: "I quit," to which the elder monks replied "That's okay anyway; we have determined that you are not worthy of being a monk because since you got here you have done nothing but complain."

LIMERICK TIME:

There lives a guy named Bush.
His brain is a pile of mush.
His presidency
Crippled our country.
I'd rate him one star, at a push.

This one time, during martial arts,
Well, needless to say, I had farts.
With one mighty shout
I pushed it all out!
My pants became many small parts.

This country has a war on drugs,
Where we treat drug users as thugs.
Prison populations
Rose across the nation
They'd be better of as slugs!

I assume you installed RA2 from CD because I did this as well and I had the exact same problem. For some unknown reason, the exported bots went down this path for me:

C:/Users/Family/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Infogrames/Robot Arena 2/Robot Designs

If it is not this exact path for you, start at the AppData folder and continue from there. I have no clue why it does this; as Naryar said,
Sometimes this game is on crack.

How did the linguist die? Morpheme overdose...

What is a foodie's favorite country? It would be Turkey if not for the fact that social media is practically inaccessible there.

My grandfather used to chase skirts all around the world... until he got to Scotland.

I remember, back in Seventh Grade, one of the units in a class I took focused on RA2. The unit consisted of making a lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight; after which, each student made a Powerpoint presentation about their robots and the unit ended with a large multiplayer tournament, for which we got to choose whatever bot we wanted without regards to weight class. The copies of RA2 we used were probably from the CD, and all AI parts were hidden. The bots looked like what would be found on N00b Wars.

So, to 09, it was most likely me that said that.

MW: Much better! However, if it is a regular popup (weapons forward) then I would advise that it become a true popup simply by changing the angle at which the DDT burst fires, making it more like a traditional flipper. This is because the razors do more damage if only one edge strikes the opponent vs if two do.

LW: Please tell us more about that lightweight, besides DSA and stacked pinks. Are the flippers supposed to be functional? or are they just wedges?

rninuf i think he may be going for more of an irl style

I never really considered that before; thanks for the insight. Still, I think this bot could benefit from being 2WD and using a larger tribar.

There are many reasons the bot is not performing well. All of them can be fixed, and here is how/why:

The main reason the robot is not doing much damage is a combination of the weapon choice and the fact that the reach is too short. Axes, as well as weapons such as saws and pole spikes, have normals, which restrict the weapon's ability to do damage by only allowing the weapon to do damage with certain faces. In this case, the axes have normals on the blade, meaning that the axe will only do damage when the blade comes in contact with another component. A better weapon choice would be Light Double-Sided teeth or Beater Bars, since those weapons do not have normals. Also, use a larger tribar for longer weapon reach.

As Badnik said (while I was typing this post, actually) there is too much weight invested in the drive power. With the exception of SnS (Sit 'n' Spin), spinner robots do not need to be fast, and thus, do not need very much drive power. Rather than use four NPCs with Pussycat wheels (it is generally a good idea to avoid Pussycat wheels), use the left and right NPC motors with Hypnodisc or Vlad wheels. An advantage of the left and right NPC motors is that, due to hitbox shenanigans, they can be placed so that most of the motor is actually outside the chassis while still being attached to the baseplate.

Beyond the drive (2WD High-Power Z-Teks) and armor if the bot has DSA, there are many things to fix

There is too much battery power in this bot. More battery than necessary does not seem like an issue, but it is, because the extra batteries waste weight. One black battery is sufficient for this bot: despite their descriptions, all spin motors (Right Angles, Redbirds, Both kinds of Z-Teks) draw 10 amps (100 ElecMaxInOutRate, a unit of current RA2 uses equal to one-tenth of an amp) each; DDT motors draw 50 amps (500 ElecMaxInOutRate) each; Each black battery outputs at 80 amps (800 EMIOR); With the two HP Z-Teks and one functional DDT burst (the one with the wedge does NOT need to be powered), the bot will draw a total of 70 Amps, which an 80-Amp battery can easily power. To fix this, simply remove the second black battery. It seems as though this is the main problem as it is causing the bot to be too tall.

This bot is too tall, and thus, its chassis slope is too steep. Without the second black, however, the bot will not need to be so tall. A shorter and less steep chassis will make it easier for the bot to self-right as well as making it easier for bots to scale the wedge (trust me when I say this is good for a popup).

The weapon setup is not very good. Although the use of a DDT and razor tips is good, the way they are arranged is not. First problem: unnecessary weight in the form of the T-Connector setup. This leaves the weak extenders exposed. A better setup is to use a series of 20cm extenders with the extender on the DDT sideways and parallel to the axis of rotation. All of the other extenders are stacked end-to-end along the first extender, but with the weapons facing away from the DDT. With weapon placement, make sure that the razor blades are all facing the same direction (blades aligned, with one set of blades parallel to each other). This can only be done using the eFFe glitch. Essentially, the eFFe glitch involves positioning a component without actually clicking to place it, firing the burst motor, then placing the component afterwards; if this doesn't make sense, here is a link to a collection of video tutorials made by Sage, a GTM Veteran and a very talented builder.

Keep lurking in the showcases. Some good showcases are those of 090901, Reier, G.K., and KOS

Discussion / Re: Robot Arena 3!
« on: June 15, 2015, 06:14:45 PM »
I think two factors contributed to the development of a new Robot Arena: NerdCubed's RA2 playthrough and the revival of Battlebots. Both of these have drawn more attention to robotic combat, and perhaps Gabriel is taking the opportunity to capitalize on the surge in interest in the sport. There hasn't been a noteworthy robotic combat simulator since RA2, so the development of a new one, hopefully with fewer glitches (crippling or otherwise), only makes sense. Also, this will be great for Gametechmods, with new members and innovations abound! It could make for a new golden age of discovery.

No, I did not. As an explorer, I am disappointed; As one who likes good video games, I am relieved.

In the bundle, I got:
  • CD-i Console
  • Remote Control (batteries not included)
  • Power cord
  • 44 titles

The lady who sold the CD-i let me take it home to make sure it worked before I paid for it.
