Alright. something not IRL for a change... The Demon, Melzez. Two PERM 132s power those discs, which are toothed with small DSL teeth. It's propelled by a pair of NPC-T64s turning Vlads. I would show you the internals, but all it is is a stack of four ants, a Roboteq control unit, and an omniconnector. In total, it weighs 797.9 KG and is clad in Ti5 and a bunch of flipper segments and titanium skirts. You think a popup would kill it? Think again. Full castor armour under the chassis with a one-pixel maximum tolerance from airtight. Good luck getting to the chassis like that. Now that I've gone over the specs, I'll like to talk about the robot's strengths and weaknesses. As stated before, it's almost immune to popups. They can't really hit the chassis, although there's a small portion of the extender work that could be damaged to knock a wheel off. It also loves anything that uses complex, fragile weaponry, so be careful with your razor tips. It doesn't like side hammers, oddly enough, and if caught on its side by a pure lifter it can be flipped surprisingly easily (though you'll get punished for it - those discs have good coverage in front and to the sides). MAKO type VS robots are also an issue. It's also not that mobile and lacks some power in the drivetrain, so it can be pushed easily (though again you'll get punished for box-rushing). Also, those flags are useless except for looks, although that's the whole point of them being there anyway. It has a wedge, but it's positioned more for defense rather than to get under opponents. Box-rushing lifters, popups and wedges may have trouble at the start, but if they survive the initial battering they'll likely get under from the side. I need to work the kinks out of this machine, although I'd rather not have to do a complete overhaul.

also it's GLORIOUS and MANLY
Sometimes, but it can be cheap and cowardly if it ends up with an immobilization due to pinning, or just plain foolish - Rage 3, for example. At the very least this would be useful in IRL tournaments. You don't see real combat robots box-rushing...

What I was thinking: If Target Trigger Spin = present && Target AI = Spinner Leroy Jenkins!!!!! Else If Target Speed > Player Speed Turn to face front Else If Target Speed =< Player Speed && Target Speed != 0 Move around to attack flank or rear Else If Target Speed = 0 && Target Distance > Range Leroy Jenkins!!!!! Else If Target Speed = 0 && Target Distance < Range Feint a Charge Else Move towards target slowly while avoiding hazards
As you can see I already have an idea of what information would be needed and what strategy to use at a specific time (at least for a basic prototype), I just need to know if it's possible get that information. That's all I'm asking at this point.

but your 1/2 horse motor puts out only 50w more than your standard 550 motor...
Which is why I sent it back.

it's AC. DC doesn't have a switching frequency.
1/2 a horse for an almost 30lb motor at 115v is comically weak. a chinadrill at 18v produces nearly 1/2 a horse.
a Inexpensive Chinese Brushless Motor or ICBM at 37v will produce just under 4 hp, weighs 2 1/2 lbs and it costs $70.
Thanks. Looks like I'm down a weapon motor (again), but at least I know that it won't work.

Well, tedious is my specialty...
I guess I'll start working on it, although before that I will need to know if it's possible to program the AI to attack a general angle as apposed to the chassis in its entirety.

The short version: Is it possible to AI a robot to use tactics besides "box rushing = win"?
The long version: I was messing around with an IRL robot I built and I was in an exhibition match with Storm 2. When the match started, Storm 2 mindlessly charged at me as usual. Of course, against Storm 2 that means you will never touch the ground again. I find it annoying against lifters and rammers, cheap when dealing with hammers and robots that can trap you, and just plane dumb when any spinner does it, especially the slower ones that can't turn well. So I've been thinking... Why were they programmed like that, and can it be changed? Is there any way to tell an AI robot to retreat, hold position, attack a potential weakness like the sides or back, circle the opponent, feint a charge, or in any other way use actual tactics instead of rushing in like Leroy Jenkins? I'm not really looking to dumb down the AI but rather have it operate more realistically. I'm sure it would have more applications than just making the game more fun to play. Imagine tournaments where the robots don't end up getting stuck in a corner until one is destroyed or is counted out.
Of course, it could also screw up the metagame in a way (SnS robots without melty-brain capability would become uncompetitive), but then again I've seen worse.

I have good news and bad news.
The good news is that I was able to get a Smith & Jones 1/2 HP 1745 RPM motor from Harbor Freight. I know it's no E-Tek, but it will have to do until I have the money to buy something better.
The bad news is that Harbor Freight won't tell me if it's AC only or AC/DC. The manual states that it's a 115v @ 7 amps, and I know it's a four pole series wound motor, but beyond that I have no clue what it is. Any ideas? Should I try hooking it up to a battery and seeing if it works, or am I wasting my time?

To clarify the rule
RULES:
- MUST have at least two rammer weapons (2 separately mounted weapons)
You CANNOT have both rammer weapons on one extender, T, or anchor!
Well why didn't you say that to begin with?
I did ...... separately mounted means separately, not on the same!
I'll get to work on it...

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
It has been DQ'ed ...... plows don't do damage, therefore are not weapons!
Fix it and upload it again!
OBJECTION. PM'd my explanation as to keep my entry secret.

Snapper II Burst motors are AI parts right? I'm pretty sure they are, but I would like some confirmation.

By nonstandard components I think he means cheatbot2 parts. Could be wrong though in which case why? It makes no sense.
If you have to enter cheatbot2 to access it, then you can't use it. The exception is Judge Bursters and the two non-standard control boards.

what arena will be used ? Also please make it so that t-minus arms can be used so I can enter my new hw flipper.
400KG limit, 600KG for walkers. If it's a heavyweight it can't enter. As for the arena, that's what I'd like to see.

>any robot that uses a glitch
so we cant uses effe axle loading and that stuff ? or like nasty pickle glitches ?
Nope. By the way, this thread is for a tournament that I've placed on the back burner until I get my 16 entry tournament out of the way. I'd prefer to keep activity in this thread limited to ideas and feedback at the moment. I've got an annihilator with similar rules awaiting approval, and I need to let that go through before actually starting this one.

We have no way of knowing if someone can keep up with the required amount of work, that's all. If you can host a small tournament with 16 entries successfully then you can move up to larger tournaments.
In that case, I'll take the chance to prove myself.

When I first saw this thread, I thought "This guy probably caught a large-mouth bass. I'll go in and impress everyone with my official catch-and-release on a sailfish". I didn't expect a gar.
Great catch there. It rivals my sailfish catch in the fact that you got yours in the boat. Mine was still in the water right next to us when we got an official measurement. Yours was 6'5", right? Actually pulling it on-board definitely makes up for the 7 inch difference.
Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of the sailfish, but I do have official State Fish and Game Department paperwork. It's a big deal to catch a 7 foot sailfish, especially off the coast of Wrightsville Beach North Carolina.
