You could probably use a piglet motor instead, also BFE the chassis to make it invertible.

Discussion / Two sets of verts
« on: February 03, 2013, 05:15:35 PM »
Hey, I have noticed the two sets of vertices that you get in most .gmfs, are both sets always the same ie top is outside mesh and bottom set is the component part?

I was gonna say this. I'm not sure if its the same if they are central. If those wheels were towards the edge of the chassis like that it would be bad for sure.

If Metal Gear Rex turns up I may watch it, but I think I will give this a miss.

I thought this might happen someday - humanised robots instead of  'normal' robots. Thing is human style locomotions probably the most inefficient there is. You don't see too many two-legged tanks out there. Killing-est bad ass weapons are what its all about. Also you will not get many ordinary people being able to build robots like this so I don't really see the point. Hopefully if it generates some interest we might get Battlebots back on TV - the show was c-rap but the robots and battles were epic.

Hey, I asked a question in the Blender forum, got this response: 'If you know the file format which your game uses, you could change it to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PLY_%28file_format%29 to import in blender.
Export model in ASCI version of ply and convert back to one your game uses.'

Can this work with RA2/gmf?

OK I will move over to the custom section. Just about everything will have customisation from now on so may as well start now.

Just made some new ones. That reminds me if I put custom stuff on I need a custom showcase right?

I have a bot up, may as well use it for this as well.

If I get good at making components I will make a total conversion mod of DSL. This might help a bit. You do realise however that when a new robot fighting programme comes around interest will come back again. Also DSL needs to be readily available to download on here as you can't get the game hardly anywhere.

I'll look into it, some way off doing the export/compatibility stuff yet, I need to get to grips with Blender first which might take a while. I can manipulate the .gmf files now pretty well so I will be making a few limited custom components as I build new stuff. Thanks for the help.

The best place to unpack RA2 folder is your desktop, try running it from there.

Is there a freeware program that lets you input vertex coordinates xyz into a 3D environment so you can just tweak the positions and see a new shape? If that was possible you could just copy the vertex coordinates back into the .gmf and reshape something rather easily.

OK next time I get $3000 I'll consider it  :laughing . Any less extortionate software that works with this? There must be something else.
