Existing Games / Re: Pokemon Thread« on: September 24, 2011, 05:00:31 PM »Sometime we should organize a GTM Wi-fi Pokemon tournament. I think we have enough players. Well if you wanted to host it I'd be happy to hand over control... I've got Ironbot to worry about as well. My thoughts on a tournament: - Should use 'Standard' wi-fi rules (lv50, 3 Pokemon, etc.). lv100 6 Pokemon using Smogon tiers would be cool, but I think that would alienate too many GTM players (possibly including me as I still need to do a lot of grinding to get to 100). - Entrants should submit complete team details to a neutral party at the start of the tournament. After battles are completed, this neutral party sends everyone the team data of each person's opponent via PM. This allows people to compare team data with what they saw in their battle to ensure no one is changing their team between battles, but without making the team data public. (Or should people just be allowed to change teams?) - Ban certain non-legendary Pokemon such as Wobbufett, Garchomp, Speed Boost Blaziken? OHKO moves or evasion boosting moves? 763

You must have a 64 bit OS. The regular Program Files folder is for 64 bit programs, and the x86 Program Files is for 32 bit programs. Most programs (especially old ones) are 32 bit which is why Windows wants to install to the x86 folder. Running a 32 bit program in 64 bit mode could cause issues which would be my guess to the source of your problems. Put the Infogrames folder in the x86 folder (or anywhere except in regular Program Files, really) and see if it works.

D.O.G. poses a bit of a problem... I have no provision in the rules for bots that are out of spares, and lose non-wheel support components that are necessary for controlled movement. I thought about replacing the fourth extender and motor (without the wheel) so it can at least move without toppling... but it seemed kind of unfair and unnecessarily prolonging D.O.G.'s life. Since there's no rule allowing D.O.G. to be eliminated and no rule allowing the supports to be replaced, it will continue to fight in Lil' Brudder mode. 765

Out of curiosity, who would be interested in such a thing? 766

Omega Force has a lot of power for an open-arena bot.

R also stands for rneeds rmoar rweapons.
It's a cool concept and it's actually well-executed enough to be a good bot if it was up to weight. 769

It's a crawler right?
If so, then TRFBD.py should work. It has a feature that makes the AI drive back and forth when the enemy is in a certain range, which on a TR hammer would make the hammer swing. 770

Round 2 is uploading (trying to beat G.K. to the punch).
Edit: It's up! Some rather bloody fights this round... I daresay a lot of these bots don't have long to live. Also, I set up a rudimentary webpage for Ironbot here. Basically the only thing on there right now is some stats on the bots (SPOILER ALERT: includes results from round 2) but that should still be good to have. 772
Discussion / Re: A couple of questions« on: September 16, 2011, 10:53:02 PM »
I like using spike strips as extender guards where most people use blades. It offers basically the same protection but also deals a bit of extra damage.
But aside from that, they are outclassed by any of the Big 3 and also axe heads. Fireman's axes are exactly the same as normal axes except they're 1 kg heavier and they have an awkward attach point, so there's really no reason to use them. Hammer heads are outclassed by sledgehammers, and that's saying something. 773

Oooops... I seem to have forgotten one small thing. Rule 3.4 states that immobility warnings will be disabled for the 30 second fights, which I didn't do for round 1.
Hopefully it doesn't make too big of a difference. Regardless, immobility warnings will be disabled from now on. As far as round 2 goes, I have it all filmed, just need to make the video and upload it. Unfortunately I'll be gone over the weekend so I'll probably get that done Tuesday at the earliest. Now to address some questions. I thought RPM would do better as well. I was hoping it'd use a kind of Melty Brain movement, though. It'd definitely help against a rammer like Speedy DX. You should have specified that when you entered... if you want, I'll change the AI to melty brain for round 3. But there will be no changing it back if you decide you don't like it. How did you AIed my bot click ? Took Popup.py and replaced the button with an analog control, so the spinners activate when a popup's weapons would normally fire. How come Scraps bot (and a couple others) have a hard time with control? Is this a case of the arena floor being smoother than the floors we might have tested our bots on beforehand? Just curious. Scrap's bot has control issues because the side plows lift the wheels partially off the ground. I believe G.K.'s bot's issues have something to do with having bursted drive with a very small turn radius, but that's just a guess. Stratocaster isn't 100% invertible so it drives a little badly when flipped. The others I have no idea. 774

Doesn't take that long at all; it's just a matter of finding a good stretch of time to do it. I'll be gone next weekend though so I'll just be nabbing bits of time in the evenings to get round 2 done. 777

Damage is set in the .py like this:
self.SetSubMaterialSound("spikes1", "metal", 2, "Sounds\\hzd_spike_hit.wav") This is the code for the spikes in the Containment Cube. spikes1 is the name of the object, metal should always be metal, 2 is the damage level (similar to material = metal damage in components), and the last parameter is obviously a sound file for when bots hit it. Frequency cannot be done in arenas to my knowledge. Also, something to note is that if you put more than one of the same object in the RBCollection, and then apply damage to it, only the first one will actually do damage. Each damaging object needs its own mesh object. 778
General Support / Re: Learning to AI« on: September 11, 2011, 06:22:06 PM »
There was code in the stock __init__.py that tells the AI to stop moving when the opponent is inside its radius... but I got rid of it a long time ago and don't remember what it looked like. That may be your problem. Just copy __init__.py from any of my mods like BBEANS or DSL2 and it should do the trick.
Other than that, the AI will always stop moving when the opponent is right on top of it, because it doesn't know which way to go. As for not turning, check that your turn control is named "LeftRight" (case sensitive, no spaces) and that your motors are wired correctly. Edit: Nevermind the radius code is in Tactics, not __init__. Just get a new Tactics.py from somewhere and you should be good. 779

Looks awesome but I'd also be concerned about the weapon reach (and the power too, if that's only a Perm 80 in there, which I think it is because the bot looks too flat for a 132).
