Nice new tag, might use it in my contests in the future. The only other thing I noticed was the post last edit feature is missing so if someone edits a post no one will have any evidence of it, that's probably something that needs fixing before it causes a stir.

Trov Edit: I'm pretty sure it works...

you got that arena working?
I fixed mine a long time ago...
O.o it doesn't work for anyone else that I'm aware of.

TyrANT looks like it just has 2 spikes on anchors or something...

TyrANT is the grey bot in that pic, it has a disc on it meaning it's connected to a RAD or axle and given the weight restrictions and size of that bot I'd say it has a disc with 2 razors rotating on an axle.

I still think side protection would be best, if a HS can turn it around with a hit to the mowers then the side is wide open for hits. Just make sure I can make AW versions for Stock Mini's :)

I believe it got personal when they said he thinks that he "above it all".

Lot's of people do clone though, Venko doesn't want to see his work become a fad in showcases and tournaments (look at what happened with caster armor especially after CB showed Heroic Sacrifice), He obviously has some unique designs he doesn't want to see go down that road.

It's hard to say which is better:

*Preventing cloning by holding unique designs back and hopefully having others create new designs themselves instead of cloning said bots.

*Sharing unique bots and having it cloned by other builders instead of having them come up with unique designs themselves.

The best thing for creativity would be to close down the showcase for awhile and have everyone come back with new unique designs, but that wouldn't be fun for anyone.

I wish I had it but these are just screenshots pulled from the archives.

I think this topic should be stickied! anywho.... old school AW's!

Oddly enough tyrANT looks like my Mini - Billy Goat Gruff from that angle, anyone know exactly what it was? from memory it was built by viper....maybe I wasn't the one to come up with the axle weapon idea for AW's.

Found these 2 while looking deep into the archives.

Made by Pys(?)

Can't recall where I pulled this one from or who made it.

:rage  so close, 2 min match AI vs AI. Not bad considering PP is the current ACF Champion (beat 9 other bots to get the title) and it won Robo Zone 2, it's weapon rack blocks OD2 from making contact with it's chassis most the time but it can still work away on the extenders etc and get one or two hits on the chassis before the plow falls off which allows it to finish the job.

The two bars holding the wedge, can't really see the wedge's colour in the pic.

The image uploader just closes every time during the upload. And I hate to use other image share websites because I'm used to use GTM Image uploader, which simply is the best.

Strange, I'm having no problem with it.

Isn't the general rule: If you have to ask about something it's probably a loophole.

Great job with the extender work.

Too dark IMO, looks brighter/shinier then the chassis in the pic.

Hopefully the Re-stocked AW design contests pick up pace along with BOTM too now, even though they aren't about the splash at all it might help to present the bots nicely.

Other Tutorials / Ianh05's Guide to making a neat splash with paint!
« on: March 20, 2013, 02:54:08 AM »
Recently I have discovered a quick and easy way to apply transparency to bot splashes, I want to share this with all of you in hope that it could help you enter more contests like BOTM without the fear of submitting a sub-par splash. So here is my quick and easy to follow walkthrough!

Step 1: Take screenshots (with F11) of your bot.

Step 2: Go to your screenshots folder and look for the screenshot, Right click on the file and click "edit".

Step 3: Use the fill tool to make the grey background white (right button by default in paint). The images need to be in .bmp format for this to work, it is the format screenshots are taken in so not much to worry about there :)

Step 4: Use google images to find a suitable background for your robot, for this bot "Oil Drill 2" we'll use something oil related.

Step 5: Resize the background image so it isn't too big by editing the file in paint. By right-clicking on the background and then clicking resize you can shrink the image down by a certain percentage.

Step 6: Go back to your robots picture with the white background, select the area around the bot and right-click then copy that part of the image and paste it onto your background. Make sure to click on the little arrow pointing down under the selection tool and select "Transparent selection" when you paste the image.

Step 7: Add more flavour, info and screenshots! google is your friend if you want to add more flavour to your splash with more themed images.

Tips:

*http://cooltext.com/ is a great website that provides a bunch of different text fonts/styles, if you want to add words to your image try this site!

*Borders help clean an image up and make it less of a jumbled mess, you can search google images or make your own borders to put around info and battleshots etc.

Would love to have the annoying double spaces between paragraphs vanish, every time I make a post with more then one paragraph I find myself going back to edit it just to get rid of the 1 extra blank line.
