I'm no expert, but dosen't a fascist government have a despot of some sort, making them effectively the same thing in practice?

And NOBODY try to get us back on topic please. I like how this thread is progressing.

I can't tell whether you're amused or enraged. Or drunk, so possibly all three at the same time :S

(Image removed from quote.)

Head 'splosions are usually reserved for WIN and AWESUM. This is neither WIN nor AWESUM. This is tragic and deeply, deeply emotionally scarring.

...unless... you know... you find Hydro's moobnovs to be WIN and AWESUM... WHICH IS TOTALLY COOL >.>

I don't have moobs, contrary to pouplar belief I have a life. Infact, whenever I'm on and not doing anything it's because I'm out biking/skating/running :)

Pics or it didn't happen.

I used to play ice hockey until I realized I was a bad skater.

Uhhh... unless you were playing on the parapalegic retard team that should've taken mabye two, mabye three seconds max to figure out :S

Not really.  I used to play soccer, and I thought I was the best goalkeeper since sliced bread.  My friends were all too polite to tell me otherwise, for a couple of years anyways.

The difference is that not being able to skate is the equivalent of not being able to walk, let alone run in soccer. I'm pretty sure you'd be able to tell quickly if you woke up one morning and promptly dropped like a sack of potatoes :3

I play beer league ice hockey now. "Beer" league is misleading, it's actually closer to oh-god-pass-the-water-before-I-cough-my-intestines-out-there's-only-two-people-on-the-bench-and-I've-just-had-a-45-minute-shift-holy-crap-I'm-gonna-die league. Hopefully I can get back into more competitive university hockey next year.

By the way guys, I was wanted to ask something.  What do you guys think of me as a builder so far?  Am I doing good?  Is there any general mistakes I keep making?

Just wanted to know.

I'd say you're promising. A lot of your bots remind me of some of the ones being churned out on the old forums, before we discovered the extent to which we could mercilessly exploit glitches. You're still wasting massive amounts of weight on extender work, but being able to use as few extenders as possible is something that comes with experience.

Your building reminds me of Jack Daniels' early days in stock, although [hint]I really wish Jack would build some more[/hint] so he could show you guys how to really waste weight... with STYLE! (You know I kid, JD xD)

Most Entertaining - Haphazard 2: if only for the greatest moment of this tourney, the robodyslam.

Most Anticipated - Postmodern Cubism: MikeNCR has always preformed well in DSL tourneys, even if he didn't have the greatest bot. Also, he's an ex-champ of BBEANS and CC2 runner-up. That's a pretty nice track record.

Most Innovative - Kheper: might as well call this the Clickbeetle award. Honourable mention to 123STW.

Most Hated by Fate - Turbulence: the best bot to not win a match. Naryar's Fallen Hero also gets some consideration, but he had one win to Reier's zero.

Looks damn sexy :O I'm liking the positioning of the irons.

What how I don't like thoughis how you have |--------------------------------| <--this much chassis and only
|-----| this much weaponry. It leaves too much exposed with no protection. I'd mabye slope the sides of the wedge if you can, making a direct hit from more than 1 spike less likley. Admittedly though, this is just a theory, but it couldn't hurt to try it.

Come to think of it, Scrap, JD and I all arrived at around the same time (I think).

Yeah we did. I think you were kicking around for a month or so earlier than Scrap and I.  I don't recall any of your noob bots though.

Wow, I remember Tankorperated and Shower Dough.  I guess, if anything, we should have had a running list of contact emails in case the boards were permanently Borked!

You know what though, now that some of the newer members are starting to mature up and whatnot, we got a pretty good clan going nowadays.

Well, I've dug up a ton of my earlier pics just today. I guess there's no better place to post them than here.

Amoeba and Amoeba Returns. AR took 2nd place in ianh05's Tag Team Challenge, losing to the team of Sage and Sorrow.

Antimatter. A later version appeared in ian's All Around Bot Builder Championship along with Cold Fusion 8 and Deus Ex, both of which you'll see later.

ApocalypticA 1 and 2. Inspired by one of Inf's bots.

Break Even More Stuff. An early VS. I can't find the two prequils though, Break Stuff and Break More Stuff.

I forget what this one is. FS/HS hybrid, in case you were confused.

Breaker. Made to go on an AI team with Cold Fusion and another HW popup. You guys probably know the one.

Catalyst. One of my first BW's.

Cold Fusion 7 and Cold Fusion 8. These were some of my "signature" bots way back when. CF8 made an appearance in ian's ARBBC.

Pvt. Parts (LW), Cpl. Punishment (MW) and The General (HW).

Deus Ex. You would have seen this in SCv4 (had it been completed) on a team with R4. It also made an appearance in ianh05's ARBBC.

Demi Deus. Supposed to be the MW on said team, but it was later replaced by another HS called Dysprosium (which I do not have pics of).

Epic (LW), Inertiatic ESP (MW) and Fireworks (HW). There's a video of Fireworks in action on my youtube channel, along with a couple of others if you want to have a look.

The General 2.0. I had jumped on the 36HS bandwagon early, as this was one of the first 5 or so built by someone who wasn't Inf. It wasn't invertible and it only had plastic, though.

Karnivore 1, 3 and 4 (for some reason, I can't find 2). One of my favourite HW's ever, it was also one of my first bots built upon arriving on the forums for the second time.

Deathifier. This was THE FIRST bot that I ever built using advice from ye olde members. This is also the only bot I have from my first tenure at the forums (under the alias "roboshark" - that's right. No caps ot 1337 :O). I later re-named it Naruto when I was going through my Narutard stage.

Nitroglycerine. I think that this might have been posted earlier in this thread already...

Protist: The Hero. Inspired by Childsplay and Le\/eL. One of my really early bots.

Reaction, and R3action. I also have Reaction 2 but it's so similar to 3 it's not worth posting. By the time I had built the fourth installment, Inf had built a "Reaction" as well. Being a much lower profile builder and not wanting to look like a name thief, I was forced to change Reaction 4 to, you guessed it, R4. So now you know: the R in R4 stands for "Reaction."

RAZ3RG3AR. Almost as old as Deathifier.

Sangre. An old chicken glitch AW. Probably my first AW.

Sasquatch. This was a very early HS from me (you can tell by the axes). I've been considering the possibility or ressurecting this bot and making a whole cryptid-themed team of 6.

Metal Simulacra. You can also see a video of this one on youtube.

Xenon (MW) and Technetium (HW). I had a LW to go along with these, but I've found no evidence of it anywhere.

War Pig 1 and 2. Another one of my more prominent bots back in the day.

Wild Thyng. Inspired by the SCv3 3-2-1 Blastoff!

Feel free to ask any questions :)

Really good matches so far, but when making the vids, could you make the robot intro pics last for just a bit longer (like 3 seconds perhaps)?

Also,

And I think that he's doing them in a random order, Ounce :\

Discussion / Re: ROBOT ARENA 3
« on: July 15, 2010, 11:35:35 PM »
There was also something like this being kicked around on the old forums way back when. It was actually going to be a RA3, with a new physics engine, new game mechanics, etc. I don't know how far it got, but my impression was it never really got off the ground. If I recall correctly, the "game development" subforum under offtopic was supposed to house the project here at GTM's, but the conversion from the Atari forums completely killed the project in its infancy.

Joe, that was one tourney. One absurdley looooooooooooooooooooong tourney xD

The thing that I appreciate most is not the fact that this tourney was really high quality, but of the tons of effort you've put in for the community. A R0B0 smiley for you:

I'll give CC3 a solid B.

A+ for asthetic quality.
A for AI'ing.
A for arena.
A- for fairness.
C+ for format.
C+ for match entertainment (to be fair, there wasn't much that could be done about this).
D for completion time.

I'll give Joe beyond 100% in the commitment and effort departments though, as CC3 was probably one of the most ambitious tourneys of all time. The huge amount of matches he had to film, edit, wrap into video form, and upload, not to mention the AI'ing, the website and the arena must have been a massive amount of work. Huge props to you. Joe :D

And a big congrats to Urjak. TF was clearly the best bot for this tourney and fully deserved the win. Entering a flipper takes lots of guts too. +1 rep, courtesy of me :D

I saw that video. At first I shat bricks. Then it slipped on the ice. I've spent the last ten minutes picking the fragments of my exploded head out of my computer screen. Words cannot describe the EPIC.

Oh, and I almost pissed myself laughing too xD
