Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Cats or dogs: The ultimate question
« on: September 13, 2014, 03:13:37 PM »
Cats.  Dogs are needy.  I don't have any cats of my own, but my neighbor's cat loves me because I take care of feeding him whenever the family's on vacation, which actually isn't that often.

You might try saving the audio as a wav instead of MP3 when you rip it.  The quality loss is minimal and you won't get that record-skipping thing

My bad.  There are some problems not even my infinite wisdom can solve. :laughing

Ooh, that'll look really nice when it's scattered all across the arena.  How many pieces does it break into?

Ok, just stay calm.  Are you absolutely sure you didn't change anything but the whels in between the time it was last working and when it first crashed?

Discussion / Re: The quest for the best robot possible

There's a bit of a rocks-paper-scissors element to the weapons, so it's impossible to have a definitive "best" robot.

How wide does that flipper open?  I've never been able to make good flippers that only open a few centimetres like Toro.

and also to get more detailed photos of each bot from my understanding.
At least it's something.

But yeah, what does "OFFICIAL" mean apart from "i need to ask everyone for permission now"? Is RW inc./whoever going to put this on their website buried in the misc. section?
So that he can't get sued.  All fanfiction, even those that don't make money, is technically trademark infringement.  99% of the time, they look the other way, but he's just covering his bases.

Also there's this... Grand opening of Dunkin Donuts in California had people lined up around the block at ungodly hours in the morning

Seriously, WTF?  It's good coffee, but it's not life-changing or even that much different from Starbucks.
Lol they're actually stressed about takeaway coffee, have they heard of the kettle?
This is America, Mate.  The only kettle we know is kettle corn.

Techno Trousers.  Yep, this is what I was referring to when I said I had finished one "leg."  I'm such a rascal.

This one uses one of the enlarged Razor Tips from IronForge, lower left is a comparison pic with the normal razor tip.  Lower right is the underside - it has no chassis.

I did some looking on Google Maps, and there are 12 Dunkin Donuts within walking distance of my office.  That's 12 separate independent of each other stores.  I am living in a world of coffee freaks.

Have you got a decent following from screening exhibition matches?  That would be a good way to test how well the tournament will work.

I agree on red paint it's like when I see a rep of bigger brother that's brown not dark gray.

Great rep otherwise.
In his defense, these bots can look differently-colored under different light.  Clawed Hopper from Series 4 looked green in pictures, but in videos, it was clearly yellow.  I'm not slacking by the by, I'm working on a bot that's close to me and I've already finished one leg.

Game Development / Re: My 2 cents on RA3.
« on: September 04, 2014, 02:52:45 PM »
My most immediate thought is, you're not going to be able to keep uour old bots.  If you're going about making RA3 by somehow modifying existing files, all you'll end up with is the next Ironforge (which I've been fervently studying to see what replicas I can do with it, your work has not gone unnoticed.)

You need to start from scratch, you need to make it so that those ugly monstrosities with tiny chassies and a trillion spikes are no longer the optimal design.  Some how you need to go beyond each spike incrementally increasing damage, and all robots conking out if their armor gets enough scratches.  If you want to get the community excited over a new game, you have to actually give them a new game.

You're going out on a limb, considering she gave you a pretty strong reason to doubt she's into guys.

Did you ask if you could watch the two of them?
Who knows, she could be bi. If she's a lesbian I would not mind being her "male friend that she can always cry on" friend but anyways it's still early days. And the picture of the two banging each other has been the main image in my head for most of the day.
Did you talk to her again?  Maybe casually ask which way her Shamrock shims?

A low skill temp worker in Massachusetts earns $10 - $12 per hour, and I believe this is a 40-hour project.  The AI is a mess, the old bots are on top, and thenewest ones are down at Team #80 or something like that.  They need to be moved to the front, or else you have no single player mode.  And speaking of, none of my bots are lw and few are mw, so you'd have to change their weight artificially.

You also have to go through the components menu and hide everything that should be hidden.  And, you have to make each bot is DSL 3 compatible - it's an arduous task and I've only gotten through a small sliver of them.

And finally, you have to check that each component is balanced within the context of the game, damage levels and fragility arent quite in sync.
The component balance thing has to be sorted out by the maker of the bots (you.) The sorting of files has nothing to do with component balance. I know nothing of hiding components but it should be a fairly easy task (again, not sure, you could just hide them in cheatbot2 anyway.) Besides, anyone downloading it would probably only pit the AI bots against each other, rather than make their own bots. I would have thought they would just have it for the sake of AI battles. The DSL 3 thing would be very hard but that just means only putting the DSL 2.1 ones in the pack, just leave the rest out. If the majority are on DSL 3, then make it a DSL 3 pack. I'm probably underestimating time for this but I don't think it would be that hard to clean up everything, just time consuming.

Time consuming IS a problem for me!  I work 40 hours a week and do this in my free time. If I were to include only bots from DSL 2.1, then every bot created since September 2013 is out, as are any improvemnts to bots since then.

Again, I would be ex-bloody-static if someone would volunteer, but you're as blind as Godot in a ketchup factory if you think your estimate is more accurate than mine.
