General Support / What frame rate is best for RA2 matchs for fraps?« on: August 03, 2009, 08:26:04 AM »
Serge, isn't that the NTSC framerate for color tv's. Is there an advantage you know of to use this rate for a comp and monitor? When I saw this rate as an option in FRAPS, I assumed it was for playback on a tv. If you know of one, I'll switch to that framerate. Let me know, please.

Chatterbox / Fears« on: August 03, 2009, 08:08:49 AM »
When visiting the U. of Chicago last year, we went over to the Sears Tower to check it out (again). It was a sunny, but windy day. Before we got into the building I saw in myself that I already had a small backgound fear (awareness) of seeing any planes near the tower, for obvious reasons.
But at the top, because of the wind, the building's sway could easily be felt back and forth, which was not noticeable the other times I was there. I would say it was more than several feet. Now my brain told me that sway is good and necessary for the building,... but my emotions did not like it at all. I only stayed for about 15 mins at the top observation deck. I despise being irrational, but that's what I found in myself in that situation... The only other fear I can think of is going fast on a motorcycle, (100+). Just out of H.S. a friend and I went on a brand new stretch of highway that was not yet open to the public. And we raced. At about 140+ my bike began to shake terribly so that I could not steer it. The wheels were not statically and dynamically balanced well. I thought that I would crash without steering or the bike would shake apart. But it finally stopped shaking at around 90 mph and since I've never gone fast on a bike again. My friend still did though. 724

The prob is that it's not only the quality of the bmps (which is greatly appreciated), but the side and end bmps need to line up at the corners in-game too. So I need to send the arena to you guys, in order that you can see it in-situ. The floor.bmps are the same.
I'll get it together and PM you guys... 725

HX_, you need to show up more often. I do appreciate your work, I guess cause I run into it often...
Joust AI: Set up the bots with breakable weapons that would meet in the center, as stated above. Then code the bot's headings toward a certain location straight ahead of them. Then at the buzzer, just have them "put the pedal to the metal". (Thought: Maybe 'multiple passes' could be coded in the same match...) . 726

(Excuse the delayed answer...busy at work)
Thanks for the help, K-3 and Joe. If you'll look at the arena pic above, it needs some skin work on the walls and the floor. (1)The walls need to match up better where they meet. (2)The floor needs to look more like a battered battle field, with better definition of the DMZ creek area stuff. (3) Anything else you might notice would be appreciated... DM-543, this arena needs a bit of skin work too. As soon as that is done (and a couple py tweaks I'll do) it will be put up for d/l. It may be released with the 'Arena Switcher' option as 1 of the 4 choices of arenas to test your bot in. Trov and I are still thinking and working on things. Also, still have to see if CB wants any of this stuff for DSL-3. . 729

General Support / What frame rate is best for RA2 matchs for fraps?« on: August 02, 2009, 12:21:40 AM »
Almost all of mine are recorded with FRAPS set at 25 fps. Never looked choppy.
I only alter the size; starting with full size for better resolution, and if lag then half size. And FRAPS works very well on my comp(s). No issues manifested for me. 731

General Support / What frame rate is best for RA2 matchs for fraps?« on: August 01, 2009, 09:43:49 PM »
Joe, that would take an ultra-nice comp to crunch all of that info at those settings. I'm impressed...
Pt. There is no 'right' parameters for everyone, because everyone has different comps with different processors, memory, HDD, CDD, apps running in background, etc... As has been mentioned, just use the max settings you can without significant lag. Notes: The resolution suffers a bit on "Half-Size", so I like "Full-Size". Lower frame rates seem to effect quality less than "Half-Size", on my comp set-up. 733
General Support / Fraps lags game« on: July 31, 2009, 07:18:19 PM »
Lower your frame rate and size.
Quit all other apps running in background. Use your monitor's native resolution. If that doesn't help enough then get new cpu/gpu. 734

If the arena doesn't appear in the list, it is almost always an error in the py. Matt, ae you using Python to edit these pys? . 738
