I like this idea... Its really hard to come up with a decent strategy without knowing which arenas are going to be used.

Couple of concept sketches might result in an entry. Depends on how much time I can muster to work on bots.

Gotta come up with a good idea though.

Do you have any screenshots of the bot before it crashes your game?  Are you using the custom anti-ballast on it?

Nice work!  I really like those.

On the VS... if you are concerned about it flipping itself with too much speed on the weapon, you might have to set the maxspeed setting lower in the AI.  That's the only solution I can come up with other than adding a tail to the bot (which I think would ruin it).

Where can I find info on this "Trov Glitch"? I searched but I found nothing but that it has been invented by Trovaner.

Agreed. Besides, a win by default amounts to squat really. You would be better off waiting for a bit unless you have other challenges pending.

I have more important things to do than waste time resending.RESEND NOW!

Like... working on the splash/brackets and all that fun stuff right?  Just because you cannot AI, doesn't mean you can't move forward with other elements of the tournament.

(besides... if you post a splash... it gives people time to make predictions... which earns you some time to figure out the AI and setting up the teams)

Had quite a bit of fun building bots for Badnik's "Blades of Fury" Tournament.

Bear in mind these are mainly Form over Function.  Horribly combat inefficient... yet entertaining to watch.

First three are my entries for the tourney... the last one is a failed concept that took a while to build, yet couldn't even beat most DSL lightweights.  :(

Please tell me you cut the carbon fiber with a dremel tool.

I am trying to convince Haz that dremels are god's gift to botbuilders.

Please add Sonni Ressetti to the list.

I know he doesn't usually enter tournaments but his DSL made replicas are extremely popular.

Nice Pressure!

Makes me feel better because my submitted bots are really realistic and not very combat effective.  I am glad to see that yours follows along with that too. Should be an interesting tourney if everyone follows along with form over function.

Welcome to the forums!  Glad to see you are having fun with Robot Arena 2. My best suggestion is to take a look at the different showcases on the forum to see how bots are built by other members.

My first suggestion is to make your bot much smaller.   Having a chassis that big will result in it being damaged quite easily.  Try to focus on making a bot with a much smaller chassis and is also invertible in case it gets flipped over.   There are other points to make about your first bot, but we can start with the basics.

You are going to get a ton of feedback, try not to be overwhelmed.

This feel drives away some light-hearted builders, and changes the rest due to peer pressure. (I don't have anything else to put here, exept that if we took stuff like tournaments a little less to heart we might have a better game, from the varied and entertainment stadpoint. Keep in mind that was subjective, and the "No items, fox only, final destination" style gameplay may be more entertaining to some.)

I totally agree.  Since I fall into the category of "Light Hearted builder" I watch this pretty closely as new tournaments are announced.  Yoda's "Our replicas are Different" Tournament is a prime example of builders having fun while competing.  Also, the replica tournaments fall into that category (mostly) as well.  Badnik's current "Blades of Fury" tournament has me interested... however the rules give people quite a bit of slack to make a powerful bot.  He is the judge to which bots are accepted, but I feel that several people will try to push the envelope in order to win the tournament.

I don't fault them for that though, people like to win. It is a great feeling. Some, are more competitive than others.  When you are dealing with a forum based off of people in a core age group less than 20 years old, competitiveness is inevitable really.  Younger people cherish the gratification of winning.  Whereas, when you get older you find that winning isn't everything and sometimes it is far more gratifying to chill out and just have fun.  But, that wisdom comes with time.  It isn't something that you can cram down a persons throat.

Great writeup Sys32.  *+respect*
