Custom Components Showcase / Re: Pay Tribute With Replicas
« on: October 30, 2011, 12:25:02 AM »
It's somewhere in the .bot file, It's to do with the line where you can determine which armour it has, I think. I'm fairly sure it's the last number out of the five that determines chassis shine, but I'm not entirely certain how to alter it properly.

It determines the intensity of shine somehow, and is apparently a number from 0-100.  The first three numbers are RGB values and the fourth is opacity (of the shine, not the actual chassis... unfortunately).

You can also add a reflection map (like the shiny hub wheels) to make it super shiny.  Find the word 'false' that comes right after the second block of gibberish (the first block of gibberish is the preview picture, the second is the skin) and change it to 'true'.  It doesn't look good on boxy chassises though.  It's best on complicated chassises or ones with bent sides.
OK- I might have a look into it. Come to think of it, if it's possible, this might be a good initial prototype for a DSl3 Mortis, with its similar-to-IRL functionality (right down to the Beta-styled axe). Not a request persee, but more of a potential suggestion.

I'm too much of a perfectionist to settle for an RA2 chassis for Mortis.  I'd need to make it with custom components, and use actual tank treads.

Besides, I don't need any more HW replicas.

top protection?

I would go for this, if possible while maintaining invertibility.

Looking good.  I like how the two weapon systems combo.

Your light is kind of wonky.  *USE FAR ATTENUATION 1987643832  should be *USE FAR ATTENUATION = 0

There are four attachment points after the four start points that should not be there.  Attachment points don't do anything in arenas.  It probably doesn't help any that some of those attach points have the same name as the start points either.  Could be messing things up.

I just wouldn't use a byebot at all... save on film time.

Except for BBEANS.  I thought my idea with BBEANS6 was pretty cool (using a really powerful byebot and awarding bots a win if they beat it, but not penalizing them if they didn't).  Too bad I ended up not needing it.

I wonder if we'll get more than 3 this year...  and I wonder what else I can do.  I've already done a snowman, a nutcracker, and a gingerbread bot.  Running out of ideas...

I'll think of something though, even if it's just a gift-wrapped SFTW.

Vixen has a very cool skin but the bot itself is sort of meh.  Proof that art skill is more important than building skill.

Drum literallly made me lol until my eyes watered.  Simply brilliant interpretation of the rules.

Bladefront is probably the best design here.  Gets my vote.

Round 8 up!

how was preytors bot even accepted

Please, explain.

Too many weapons.  It's kind of a gray area though.  There's nothing wrong with Preytor's bot's design.  If I was running the tournament I would have perhaps made him remove the 25kg hammer heads in front to make it look more realistic and some of the extraneous weapons on the sides/rear... but it would still have a lot of weapon weight.  It's hard to know where to draw the line.

Looks like Jack had the same idea as me.

FYI, the spinners on 6 Impossible Things spin down.  The plan is to hit the opponent, launch myself up, then come down and hit their top.  :gawe:

I'm a little worried about Riot Shield's tall front and side hammers though.

I thought it was you wouldn't be paired up with the same person twice in a row. Hence the winners fighting winners and losers fighting losers.

Precisely.  There have actually already been several rematches at this point (Grinding Noise and X-Press have fought twice, BoomBox and Blood Shed, Blood Shed and One Way Ticket... maybe more).

no custom AI to kill the bot before the match starts

But it's OK to kill them after the match starts?

HEHEHEHEHE.

pastel colors are UNMANLY.

You could always paint it pastel black.    (NOT gray, pastel black.  There's a difference if you imagine hard enough.)

This tournament seems to have quite a high level of interest.  It'll be interesting to see what people do without their favorite weapons.  I haven't heard spike strips mentioned yet--those used to be the weapon of choice for popups back in the day, and could see a revival here.

DSL TC Showcases / Re: Ayak420 Showcase Need Help
« on: October 23, 2011, 10:15:21 PM »
If the game tells you "baseplate components must fit inside the chassis" (most annoying error message in the game BTW) it means the chassis needs to be taller.  Half sheets can't be attached to minimum-height chassises.  I think the minimum for half sheets is 0.4something.

Upside down baseplate anchor works for attaching bottom armor, if you have room in the chassis.  Otherwise you can use a multiextender with a 20cm extender coming down off the side, which is 1kg heavier but smaller.  Skirt hinges can also work and are very flat but you run the risk of the armor flexing out of the way and the chassis being hit.

Looks fantastic, Click. You never fail to astound me. =D Is it difficult to drive at all, with the wheels at that angle?

Nope, drives straight as an arrow.  The wheels are really only angled because it's impossible to align them at a 45 degree angle so I have to do 40 or 50 degrees.  It's 4WD rather than 2WD with fast NPC's because... I feel like a noob just saying it... but... NPC's wouldn't fit.   :embarr   And I didn't want to make it fat so they would.

Is that NAR AI's yellow BSG ?

Nope, just a regular reskinned BSG.
