Stock Showcases / Re: Merrick's Stockbots A.K.A "I have no idea what I'm doing."« on: July 10, 2012, 07:24:39 AM »- Servo motors don't need anything to run. These two are a little bit misleading, in my view. Servos WILL operate perfectly well with no battery power, but they will drain a battery if you have to attach one. As for Shiny Wheels, they are easily the best wheel choice on most LW's, largely due to their comparatively low weight. However, Rubber Wheels on HPZ motors give the lowest ground clearance of any combination in the game, which is very useful if you are building popups, for example. Slipperbottom wheels (also known as Grannies) are very useful on some Horizontal Spinners, because they are able to offer invertibility better than other wheels. 703

The green outline shows the collision mesh of the component. Some components have a different collision mesh than you'd expect, such as the Mace. That's why some components won't attach, even though it doesn't look like they're intersecting.
In general, you should always try to build to the weight limit of the class you're building in. A Middleweight can be up to 399.0kg. You could also turn off Snap to Grid for some fine tuning, to shave off vital extra chassis kg, that could be used on weaponry. Another nice little trick is to ignore the armour tab completely, and you receive armour which is the same weight as aluminium, but stronger than steel (Double Strength Aluminium, or DSA). Also Pink batteries are generally not used in anything heavier than LW, a Supervolt should be enough for this. Irons are a good weapon choice, though, because most weapons have something called Normals, which means they only deal damage with a specific part of the component. For instance, if you hit someone with the side of the ice pick, rather than the point, no damage will be dealt. Iron spikes don't have these, and the same goes for Maces and Razor tips, which means they can deal damage no matter what part of them strikes the opponent. That's what makes them the preferred weaponry in much of Stock building. 704

Hmm. Looks like I get Chernobyl in the next round, then. That should be a pretty close fight. Hopefully I can take advantage of his lack of defenses.

FS looks very nice indeed. Not too sure about the wedge spacing, maybe try to get them a bit wider.
HS looks a bit mad, Z-Teks are a bit too far out for my liking. 706

If the cloud does have a silver lining though, it's that I removed that annoying upside-down Welsh flag. Nothing against it of course, but it didn't look right on the skirts. What you could do (you need to download Paint.NET for this), is reduce the Saturation a touch, maybe to about 80-90% or so, then up the contrast to get the blacks back if they look a bit off. 707

In what way? It's just the way our keyboard's set out. I remember reading that keyboards in france have AZERTY to start with, as opposed to QWERTY.

Custom Components Showcase / Re: Pay Tribute With Replicas« on: July 09, 2012, 06:22:58 AM »Thank you I think it's because the skirts are actually longer than the chassis, so they stick out of the front a little bit. If the chassis was extended a little, that would help remedy it, and I think would look more in proportion. Looks a bit wide to me at the moment. But you've done a very good job with the reskinning, does it have a lifter motor in it like Firestorm, so the forks go up slower? 710

It only appears to affect US-based customers, since that's where the servers are. People in the UK should be fine.

Looking pretty solid. If you opened the component skins up in something like Paint.NET, and just sapped a little of the colour out of them, I reckon you'd be onto a winner there. And the game only has the edges/decals and such in 256x256, so it won't apply to any skins of a higher resolution. So you need to to all your editing in whatever image editing program you have. If you're still lumbered with MS Paint, I would highly recommend Paint.NET. It's basically like MS Paint, but with a whole heap of extra features, such as Layers (you will wonder how you survived without them), blurring, advanced area selections, and a lot more. Plus, it's free. =D
I also never knew the original PA rep was so slanty at the front. 714

Pretty good stacking work there. Two servos isn't too difficult to do, I've not tried any of the others. 4 servos is quite impressive, as are the oddly angled actuators. Now put them to some practical use. =P

The reason the popup cannot drive is because the HPZ's are angled with the points of the motors facing up and down, thus lifting the small rubber wheels off the ground. If you rotate the motors by 90 degrees, that will make it drive properly. You could also remove the 20cm between the SnapperII and T connector to save weight, and the SnapperII should ideally be two clicks up to give the best ground clearance.

It's realisitc apart from the popup weapons slicing directly through the razors. If you perhaps have the skirt hinge lower down and pointing up the wedge, rather than down, that might help with realism, as well as preventing opponents from getting stuck between the razors.

Take a look at Tribute to Tribute to Mayhem in my showcase to see what I mean. |
