I've not picked it up yet waiting for tomorrow (payday) but I've heard lots of negative things so far :L sounds like an unpolished bit of crap? Does it have some potential or is it just doomed?

if you buy it right now you'll be disappointed. wait till they fix the mess first.

i agree with badger. this bot has light drive and quite heavy wedges for a LW.

but maybe it actually works like that

I'm thinking this will be remade as a RA2 BOTM considering how unworkable RA3 currently is.

note: this is not an official change by trov, please wait for an announcement by him

This is... heartbreaking. If Jules' video is anything to go by, the game is quite literally worse than stock RA2.

Damn.

As far as I've played, it is worse than Robot Arena 1.

In the second match your battery died - there's no steady decline like in the RA2, when you're out of power, you're dead.

DSL2.2 has a system like that, actually.

Discussion / Re: OFFICIAL: RA3 Feedback Thread
« on: May 26, 2016, 03:04:47 PM »
Feedback area : Main menus, botlab (chassis placing and components)
Game Version : initial release
Reported on : 26/05/2016

good things :

-music is neat
-able to move components after putting them
-able to move component chains
-able to change the chassis after components are made
-new, interesting components
-complex chassis building

bad things :

-UI is badly designed in general. it looks like a console game when it's a PC mouse-and-keyboard game.
-tried to traduce the game in french for some reason. ended up being a very bad traduction. much prefer my games to be in english rather than in google translate english-to-french traduction
-chassis building is honestly a pain. no option for a topplate and a baseplate only, it's either 3 or 5 which is unnecessary in general.
-difficult to change general height of the robot.
-difficult to work within the baseplate/midplate/topplates because it's in 3D and they're asking us to modify a 2D plate in 3D. something the game doesn't just do what you want it to do in that case
-a simple wedge chassis takes quite a bit of trial and error when in ra2 it took 5-10 seconds to build.
-component placing is a pain in general. rotation of components isn't done anymore by increments, which is real bad when you have to rotate a motor 180 degrees. same with raising and lowering components.
-no real baseplate. whenever i attached a ztek it put the ztek straight through the chassis, right within the baseplate plane and not ON TOP of it.
-components can be put anywhere.
-when I reset the chassis, some components (a battery) were left in place and I had to remove them manually.

Discussion / Re: RA3 Analysis (has no content yet)
« on: May 26, 2016, 02:18:55 PM »
i was going to analyze something playable but RA3 isn't as it is now

-it tried to traduce the game in french and failed
-no 2 layers option only for bots, which would simply
-building a 2D layer in 3D is very confusing
-building a chassis is confusing in general.

building:

-clunky. there is no collision mesh at all, when i put some zteks on my baseplate they were put halfway through the chassis and i had to raise them for them to be properly placed, and when i raised them, since it didn't raised by increments one ended up higher than the others
-when i rotated a motor, first i couldn't rotate it before placing it (so it ended being badly placed) but then when i rotated it it wasn't by increments either, so i had to try several times to have a motor that was rotated 180° from the other and then i'm not even sure i could put it properly

here. then i asked for a refund.

don't buy it right now. maybe they can fix it but as it is now it is unplayable.

Anybody care to thoroughly explain why they didn't like it? Most comments are just calling it "bad" and "a pain" which don't really give much information as to what the issue is.

I think it is VERY IMPORTANT for us, the Robot Arena community, to give concrete constructive criticisms to the devs rather than dismiss thr game outright. We can help turn the game into what we all hoped for and the devs themselves will benefit from our criticism.

You can't build properly in it.

Not everything is bad, there ARE some new nice features but it is overshadowed by the bad UI and design decisions at the moment.

Like whenever I placed a ztek it put them halfway through the chassis, chassis making is far more complicated and the benefits of the new system are low compared to the drawbacks, for some reason it places components on a grid and THEN you can move them with some ui (and you never succeed in placing them symmetrically, at opposite 180° rotations or at the same height)

literally RA2 as it is is far superior. maybe they will improve their game, right now it's unplayable unless you have lots and lots of patience.

this game.

in building there are plenty of options who look like "hey that seems nice" but when you actually are up to it YOU CANNOT BUILD.

Literally I am having trouble aligning 2 HPZ's because you can only rotate them after you have placed them, which is nice but you know when rotating is entirely free and your motor's rotation is 5 degree off.

All your bots use battleaxes. If you really want to use axes, use the lighter ones.

All your bots have unneccessarily huge chassises and wheels. Make your chassis smaller and use smaller wheels. The big weapons/wheels in Stock are NOT better than the smaller ones.

Stop using steel armor; DSA armor is better. To use DSA, do not select any armor on the chassis. (Don't do that in DSL/Ironforge). It's as light as aluminium but a bit stronger than steel.

Use only the largest batteries (the 30kg Supervolts) on heavyweights. A good rule of thumb is 1 per 3 spin motors and 1 per 2 burst motors. Do not spam batteries, nor have too few. You Can't Pick Up This has too few batteries, and your latest bot has too much.

As said before, car steering is really bad. In terms of both speed and driving.

Airtanks are useless on anything that does not have pistons, hovercrafts, cannons or flamethrowers.

Try to copy a good but simple-to-build bot. Have a look at my stock showcase, since I usually don't stack or snapper load much.

what thrackerzod said.

Also I feel you can remove those plows... you really need more weapons.

What armor does it have ?

A drum would probably be lighter than a disc, yes, or even the omni extender.

And yes, better use a WP836E on that. Ant spamming is no longer a thing in DSL 2.2.

The botlab's UI looks clearly improved in UI and precision building and it doesn't seem there is some casualization of features compared to RA2.  :thumbup

I'll have to play this game before I can judge better, though.
