I could probably pull a RW-esque design out of my ass for this.
This would be against the rules of display tournaments. No submissions are allowed.

I, for one, would be happy to see you start a display tournament.
Do you plan on AIing the bots? If not, I would highly recommend it. For some reason, this section doesn't require you to AI the bots but most successful tournaments are AI vs AI. Human vs AI isn't really fair and human vs human is not allowed by the current rule set (unless you are facing yourself (an even worse idea that human vs AI)).

There are multiple levels for projects so that people don't have to know how to mod to do well. Things like getting friends to come online, make new bots, and creating images with 5 or more bots are completely do-able projects for people that don't have modding skills. In fact, level three projects are under valued by my point system (the time/point ratio is much higher).

It depends on the hazard.
Moving hazards (such as floor saws): -Easy Solution: Remove the code that makes it move from the PY. -Best Solution: Do the above and remove all the associated objects, constraints, and RBCOLLECTION references.
Non-moving hazards that eliminate bots (such as pits): -Easy Solution: Stop the cover from moving by removing the movement code from the PY. If a cover doesn't exist, add an unmovable object that fills or covers it. -Best Solution: Change the floor so that the hole is no longer there.
Non-moving hazards that do damage (such as wall spikes): -Easy Solution: Stop it from doing damage by changing the material in the PY. -Best Solution: Remove the spikes from the GMF.

Let me get settled in before I start trying to add any new code. This feature is not available by default so I would have to find a plugin or create my own if I wanted to add something like this.

It is your decision to come back or not. I can't guarantee any form of protection from other members but you can certainly avoid confrontation.
In general, it is easy to get on people's nerves when you have a negative attitude about things. Also, if you can't offer a solution to a problem than you are only making things worse by repeatedly bring it up (I'm thinking of the fun-factor thread but it doesn't just apply to you). The Robo Zone tournament didn't have very many followers but that doesn't mean that nobody appreciated your efforts (this is especially true of the people that were following it).
I would advise trying to keep a positive attitude online and keeping your IRL problems to yourself. Everyone has problems and nobody wants to be swallowed up by the metaphoric cloud that is other people's problems. Every now and then, you can slip up but perseverance is the key to online success. Taking insults never feels good but the way that you respond to them says something about your character.
The forums rules apply to everyone and nobody is going to receive special treatment (this applies to both you and other members).

Thank you and good luck. 'twould explain why Trov's back (if he ever 'left' that is)
I never left; I just didn't see the need to post. Even during the slow periods, I visited the forums at least once a day.

Update: I added the new components to the mid-level projects. Once again, I apologize for any inconvenience caused by my edits.

Point taken. I'll move tutorial down to the mid-level (unless someone has already made one just because it is worth 3).
As far as the music video goes, it is valid for the mid-level as long as it has 8 different bots in it.

Edit 4 talks about tournaments. Do want to know anything else about it?

I'm relieved to see that people are expressing interest in this.
I would also like to apologize upfront for not being able to include the RA2 wiki in this. I keep running it through my head but there doesn't seem to be a non-biased way of evaluating content.
Does anyone see any additional flaws that I should correct? I want this to be as fair as possible for everyone. However, I don't want to be constantly editing the rules when there is so little time for people to prepare. Thats why I want to get the big stuff out of the way and only edit the rules later when absolutely necessary.

It is short notice but I didn't think of it until last minute :P. I figure that if you were already planning to do something than you deserve to be at an advantage. I understand that people are busy but you have known about the anniversary for quite some time. I would still encourage everyone to do what they can in the limited time frame even if they don't expect to win (thats why I listed a goal for the contest).
As far as what the action cam is, it is basically an autonomous camera that views all active bots from the side. It will also rotate to the other side if a wall gets in the way so you will almost always have the optimal viewing angle.
I'll add another edit for regulations regarding AI packs and tournaments.

Good to hear. I know that many people have expressed interest in Punch Out! UI so you could potentially do very well.

With the 10 year anniversary just around the corner, I figured that I would provide a little incentive for making it special. The contest is as follows: - Goal: To inspire more people to get involved and improve RA2's longevity.
- Eligibility: Limited to people that post in the discussion thread before Feb 20 (this thread). You must include either a link or description of what you did for Feb 18 in your post (if you did more than one thing, you don't have to post it all at once).
- I will not be eligible for participation because I already have the prize. Everyone else can participate (just remember to post in this thread with the necessary information).
- Prize: The top three contributors from the 18th will receive my action cam.
- Scoring: The scoring system is designed to give everyone a fair chance at getting into the top three (not just modders)
Score = ((3 x # of high-level projects released) + (2 x # of mid-level projects released) + (1 x # of low-level projects released)) * (1 + % of votes from forum poll)
- High-Level Projects: New arenas, new AI, new AI packs, new GIB work (points awarded for GIBs on a per release basis (not per file))
- Mid-Level Projects: New videos/images of 8 or more bots, new tutorials, new components
- Low-Level Projects: New bots, new people that you invited to the forums and that posted at least once on Feb 18.
- All projects must be made/performed by you.
- The poll will be started on Feb 20 and last a week (you will be able to vote for up to 3 entries).
- The results will be posted soon after.
- For clarifications and fairness, I will add edits to this post. Edits will only be made to ensure that people don't manipulate the system and to provide more opportunities for others to do well.
You have roughly 2 weeks to get your acts together. Feel free to discuss here. I will filter through all the posts on Feb 20 to get a list of entries. Edit 1: If you work in a team on a high-level project, you both will receive points. However, teaming up on mid- and low- level projects will only count towards one of you (they are easy enough to do alone). Edit 2: There will be a limit of 5 new bots per member. I don't want to see dumps of people's entire Team folders. Edit 3: AI packs are now part of the high-level project category. If you have any contributors for your AI pack, please list them in your post so that they can receive a low-level project point. Edit 4: As a special rule for tournament hosts, you may receive a mid-level point for every 8 different bots shown collectively in tourney videos throughout the day (if you don't have that many bots left, you could do bonus matches with the defeated bots). I don't want to distract hosts from their tournaments unless they really want to do something else. Edit 5: If you swap out the sound files used by RA2, you will receive an additional 0.0005 points regardless of how many files you change (after the poll). I don't see the point of doing this but I'm not the one doing it so more power to you. Edit 6: I've added new components to the mid-level projects. I know that the GMF stuff can be challenging for components but Arenas have that plus PY work. | | Low-Level | | Mid-Level | | High-Level | | Score (before poll) | | Votes | | Percentage | | Score (after poll) | Lightning S. | | 5 | | 1 | | 0 | | 7 | | 3 | | 8.571% | | 7.6 | MassimoV | | 5 | | 5 | | 0 | | 15 | | 13 | | 37.143% | | 20.571 | Mr. AwesumSauce | | 5 | | 3 | | 0 | | 11 | | 11 | | 31.428% | | 14.457 | venko | | 5 | | 0 | | 0 | | 5 | | 8 | | 22.857% | | 6.143 |
Thank you to everyone that participated. Awards have been sent out.

General discussion is fine. It is actual material from RA2 and it is more about showcasing the story than the bots.

There is a right and wrong way of criticizing and I believe some of you have crossed that fine line. ACAMS has done much more for RA2 than many of you know and I believe he deserves our respect. If you have a problem with something let him know. You must however understand that he has a life outside of RA2 and this website. As for the wiki, it is currently running 1.15.1 and 1.20.2 is the latest. When ACAMS has time, I'm sure he will get around to updating it ( this tutorial should do the trick as long as you use the most recent version of MediaWiki instead of the one that they are linking to). Also, stop complaining about the game dying. Everyone knows that it is on the decline but none of the people complaining are doing anything about it. Many threads have been soiled by your negative attitudes and it is starting to get on my nerves. By repeatedly bringing it up in threads, you are only making the forum less enjoyable for newcomers and current members (furthering the issue). I have been around since 2006 and this issue was brought to my attention from day 1 (people complained then as they do now). However, the complaining has never been this bad. I understand that RA2 isn't doing as well as it used to but that is no reason to bury it while it still has signs of life and interest. Playing online has never been that great but there are still quite a few people that will do it if you request it in the appropriate thread.

I like to do all my resizing in Excel. There are other resizing programs out there but nothing is as universal and friendly as Excel for this purpose. My Excel file can be found here.

Adjusting the *MESH_VERTEX of either will not impact the other. However, adjusting the origin in the *GMID_HAVOK_RBCOLLECTION will affect both (IIRC).
I personally prefer to tweak the verticies (as opposed to the origin) just because Serge's previewer doesn't take into account the *NODE_TM stuff.
