Interesting, while I don't know you I guess you were one of RA2's biggest and most important members in the past. I'm just a random dude with a disassembler (and now a debugger, too!).
Oh, you might not believe it but I understand what those things are(and have somewhat used them before), will try to hex edit some stuff in RA2 later on(like the weight limits) Also I guess this allows us to play RA2 "forever" even after Microsoft messed up windows reverse compatibility because they wanted more people to move over to new windows products.
It sounds like you're trying to push an anti-Microsoft agenda here
Well not really, while I do prefer Windows over Linux(don't get me wrong, it defintely has it's advantages however I'm not used and don't like the GNU user interfaces) I'm not much of a fan of 8 or 10, especially not the stuff they're doing with 10 and how they're trying to force people to upgrade to 10. That and stuff just not working at all.

I feel like they just slapped on a generic EULA that they probably won't even enforce.
Possibly, then again pretty much all games that got mods had this, so in the end it's just like uploading music videos or TV replays on YT, hope that the producers aren't a ---- and let you do that stuff.

Dude, you know you can buy steam vouchers at, like, every game store?
You know there are possibly other reasons such as having "anti video game parents"? Think you could've said that friendlier. Unity itself is already a good software that has many options and tech behind it, problem is it has gotten almost too easy for new game developers to get into it and released half-baked games because they were trying to make profit on Steam via Green light.
It's the same problem as with GM(which I honestly find the best game creation software out there), doesn't mean that the engine behind it is bad. One thing that does worry me through is the unity file format, I can imagine that being an issue if you have to un and repack everything instead of simply opening up a .py file in notepad and doing some adjustments to test. I'm kind of surprised that the game was at PAX East, a huge event full of people, and absolutely noone has uploaded anything about it to YT. No gameplay, no interviews, no nothing. We would've assumed it wasn't there at all if it wasnt for the trickle of information posted here and the devs saying they were going.
Not the first game that this has happened to, I guess the devs don't want to upload stuff as everything's still in early stage and it would cost them too much time. A big problem is that the people that are actually at pax have no idea which games are there as first preview/with additional content(and as such should be recorded) and which games are already released games that are mostly there for show. One of the reasons why I'm not a fan of those events. A bit late, but a question to the devs, are DRM Free releases(such as GOG/Humble Bundle) planned? I'd much rather get the game that way instead of having to deal with Steam's interface, yes I know that means there won't be any Steam Workshop, but let's be honest here, all it does is a bot exchange and I'm sure that we will still have bot exchanges here and on other websites after this, especially given how unfriendly the Steam Workshop is, requiring you to subscribe(and stay subscribed) to use mods and other downloadable content.

For the record, I get neither Nary's nor Avalanche's problems. It seems to work perfectly fine for me.
Same, guessing something's broken with the user account and that the mobile detection adds odd for some reason, you aren't using a windows with tablet mode enabled, right?

Working just fine now, thought my internet crash caused a problem on my end but looks like it broke for everyone.

Edit: After seeing how well received this post is(instead of it being like "u wat m8, stock socks" I might as well say my thoughts on it:
Personally I would've liked it more if there were more stock robots around, of course with better working mechanics and all, but I'm personally not much of a fan of "glitch bot" like robots that are just full of weapons(see industrial coal miner's triple disc setup) or generally DSL's robots where it's "put metal sheets everywhere now no wedge can't get under it" "put defense plates everywhere" however in a way it's quite hard to do that as RA2's system just seems to have certain flaws.
I think the biggest issue here is that the chassis is your health meter instead of the actual components, the chassis is the most fragile part that people need to protect instead of it being the main frame that gives your robot the unique shape and place to fit your components in. In the end it probably would've been better if each of the sides of the chassis had it's own health and a really high fracture, so that heavy spinners could still rip off sides, and if the components took more damage/were what caused you to lose. Then again I wonder if a really high chassis hp health value and low component health would make that somewhat possible. On the other hand, DSL's robots don't exactly seem to be the standard as I've seen a lot more normal interesting stuff in tournaments.
Another issue is flippers, the game doesn't really seem to be built for that, would've been really nice if you actually got points for ramming/flipping or staying immobile(while the other robot was having trouble to move) instead of just points based on damage, so in short I would've liked it more if this was realistic but I can see why it's hard to implement all that.
Original Post: Yes, exactly what the title says, write your thoughts about one, multiple or even all stock ai bots(we'll include the rookies team as well as import bots), no this is not a joke thread.
Will write my opinion on it later as I'd like to see how this thread first turns out.

Got this session error at the top of the page now: Warning: session_name(): session.name cannot be a numeric or empty '' in /home/gametechmods/wiki.gametechmods.com/extensions/Auth_SMF.php on line 333
Shortly before that happened my router glitched out(possibly the dhcp/dns service crashing) had to reboot it and I guess the wiki/forum sessions are now still active/not synced/messed up in some way that confuses the wiki.

wohoo, nice that there's no longer a need for double accounts and I do hope that people won't abuse this system.

#1: At first glance, I thought it was a stock bot with the mud tires and caster. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's overweight. So if it is, how is it allowed?
It's 288.1 according to the splash and all the others are heavier than it, if anything it's underweight, unless you meant the ironforge weight standards but this is DSL(MW is 200-400 from what I remember, maybe 250?) #4: I'm trying my best to not be biased towards this one for... vehicular reasons... Anyway: the bot looks great, as does the title made for it; loving the 'SEGA' font. The splash is a bit "meh" though.
You probably already know this, but this isn't exactly the Sega font, many different companies have been using it back in the day, but now it's only sega. With that said, I do like 3's IRL look the most, now if it only had side protection(also I guess the chassis is only the very tiny black metal part in the middle?

Originally wasn't going to reply because I don't know much about the game series, one friend has told me about it and how bad the new(I do think it was the most recent game) game with that 7GB patch is(and no I didn't watch that video it was a different one which showed so many differences from the old ones) Looks like a fun game series which sadly just stopped having development and now return's with today's "release the alpha as finished product" games.

I'm interested in joining this(only me on the team), still gotta build a ironforge(which version by the way) and DSL middleweight and I can't do AI/smartzones.

Offtopic, really hoping to join one of your tournaments one day, but I sadly don't have good enough bots and AI skills yet.
Good to hear you're interested in entering tournaments but I wouldn't worry about AI skills, as it's a tournament host's obligation to AI your robots for you if you cannot do so yourself.
Thanks, but I'm kinda interested in doing my own AI(part of being curious about it/wanting to have success in it, and also being interested if it's possible to make it more "intelligent"), for that reason(and knowing how stuff's built) I much rather want to create my own file instead of "just edit X file and adjust some things", once I know how stuff works I'll use templates. It would also make the life of the host easier if he didn't have to AI every single bot. As for the tournaments themselves, while I do have some somewhat working robots ready, I fear that they're just not good enough, Stock seems to be all about glitches(which my bot don't really use) and all I've made in DSL was terrible so far(I do blame it on DSLs parts, there's so much choice but you have zero idea if that part's actually worth using/if it's a drive motor and they come in odd shapes which make it even more difficult to properly use them. :P Doesn't help that all my battles so far looked like battles in the 3d robot wars games... don't get me wrong, it's not a bad mod, I just haven't been able to use it yet). Then again, looking at the bots that enter the tournaments, it doesn't look like they are Starcore AI/Ultimate Bots that are perfect in every way, and I could just enter one for the fun I guess?

Consider updating your main post, then copying the relevant stuff and also posting it in your post announcing a new bot. That would probably encourage more discussion.
And yeah, popups main intention is to get under the opponent and then stab them in their weak point to inflict massive damage. We use burst motors not for flipping power, but just because they fit nicely in the chassis, unlike pistons which could do the same thing but are clunky and huge.
Yeah that's what I plan to do. Someone never said something more true about pistons, they are strong(and sadly what by bot needs) but such a pain to work with and then there's the need for Co2 bottles which are clunky and huge as well. Offtopic, really hoping to join one of your tournaments one day, but I sadly don't have good enough bots and AI skills yet.

I've searched the complete UI folder but haven't found any of the background textures yet, anyone know where they're stored/if they're in the .gib files, how to edit those?
Edit: Found them in the common folder, as for .gib files they can simply be edited with any text editor. Thought that I searched all the folders at least 3 times and thought I'd ask before spending more time with searching, no idea how I overlooked that.
Only question left now is if the sliders can be edited(and I don't mean the buttons itself)

Nah it's probably just because you update the first post instead of pasting the pictures in new posts.
Either way, while popups can flip (usually limited to heavyweights and above though), it's not always beneficial since most bots have weapons that protect the top side. The best scenario of a popup is to simply fling the enemy upward but not flip it over.
That's what I meant when I wrote "probably my fault for not posting the images here directly" :P So I guess popups don't have the intention to flip? Well that's definitely interesting because I'm thinking even more about my flipper design now.

Gotta say that this thread has gotten less and less replies(probably my fault for not posting the images here directly and only doing RW remakes), going to post some new bots soon and thinking about creating something that can actually work in a contest.
Now I've been thinking about designs, and while I don't really want to make a popup(they seem to be hated and overused just as flippers, which is sad), this seems the only way to do a decent flipper that actually does damage(and because of that wins, because RA2 sadly only has damage points). I've had a question, are popups actually good at flipping? From what I've seen their point simply is to cause damage but not to flip opponents over?

Can you watch the videos later or is it live only?
Darling, what do you mean? The videos are on youtube, you can view them anytime you want. I can go fetch links, if you'd like.
Yeah sure, Periscope doesn't have a link anywhere, or not one I can find.
gonna organize these into spoilers
The only issue I can see you having is if any of these are regionlocked, but that should be everything.
I know, wrong thread to ask, but is there any place to watch the videos or is it just jumping around from youtube video to youtube video, trying to find ones that aren't taken down for copyright reasons(which I find really sad) yet?

Why isn't the 2.2 download available in the downloads section/wiki and why were most of the RW bots removed from it?
1. That's probably just a mistake that'll get fixed eventually.
2. They're still in the game; they're just only available in the "Import Bots" section for teams. This is because (at least to my knowledge) the Robot Wars replicas haven't been updated like the BattleBots/RFL robots and wouldn't really fit in with the other replicas.
Oh I see, thanks for the answers. I guess the RW robots just aren't as high quality as the battlebots ones in their current form, was worried that they were going to get replaced. One other thing I noticed is that the sawblade(stock sawblade seems to have been replaced?) now no longer clips through components/chassis.

What's DSL 2.2 exactly? I can only find download links to 2.1(but I guess they're 2.2 anyways)?
Also since I'm new here I don't know all the glitches, but as far as I understand it's the following:
Am I right with that? Standard=no big clipping parts(but smaller ones are allowed I guess?9 IRL=no clipping at all, just what would work in real life AI parts=normaly unaccessable in DSL BFE=Bot File Editing AAM=? Hax mode=(is this the one that glitches out certain motors and allows you to place stuff in them?)
I do understand what's basically meant, something that doesn't abuse any game glitches.
2.2 download
You're pretty much right with all the terminology. You can use this for a more detailed description of building styles.
Why isn't the 2.2 download available in the downloads section/wiki and why were most of the RW bots removed from it?
