Discussion / Re: What's your first bot you ever made?
« on: May 12, 2011, 06:44:19 PM »
If I can find a picture, I'll edit this post.

My first bot was a beetleweight named Botwheeler. It had RAD Drive and a redbird with a chewblade attatched to it. It was painted blue.

Why the wings? I have no idea.

I can't see the point of the plows, though.

They were there to fend off Horizontal Spinners and double as wheel guards. They don't really help that much. Actually, they pretty much just get in the way. It couldn't really wedge opponents very well if they were still connected. Plus, I guess I could use Irons as wheel guards.

By the way, should I keep the shinies or ditch them and get Rubbers?

Built this in a rush:

I was in the mood to make a de-weaponer, and then I decided to make it wedgy. It's got DSA, as always, 2 HP Z-Tek drive, one Nifty, and Snapper Wedges. I might give it Rubber Wheels in an update, but I'm not sure if I should. Anyway, I don't like it very much, but I love the name for some reason.

In other news, this is my first bot with a control board stacked in a Nifty!

Wedged De-weaponer: An idea in progress.

Fahrenheit:

Delete the air tanks. You only need those if you use pistons.

Try putting another hammer on if it's going to stay a Heavyweight. Then put razors on both, and lots of them.

Instead of using angle connecters, angle the DDT.

Change the wheels to Shiny Hubs. They're the lightest wheel. Slipperbottoms are only used if you need a wheel that's barely bigger than the Shinies so you can drive upside-down. But you don't need them in this case because you can self-right with your hammer. (I'll bet)

Your bot weighs 597.3 kilograms. Heavyweights can go up to 800 before they get blocked by the weight limit warning. You want to use your weight wisely and put on as many weapons as possible.

Frontal protection would be a good idea, too. Side protection would be good if you have the weight.

Motorua Takedown:

Change the square extenders to round ones and change the Irons to wedges.

Try "stacking" the Supervolts. It takes a hefty amount of practice, but it's worth it.

You still don't need the air tanks.

Put on multiple DDT's and put on lots of razors on them all.

I'd love to see castor armor on this thing.

Unrelated:

This doesn't have anything to do with your bots, but could you a better job at cropping?

I think I'll go make a Stock Hammer now.

You don't want to use steel armor because it's heavier and weaker than the special DSA armor. Don't apply any armor to your bot. That's it. If you ignore the armor tab, you can get armor that's as light as Aluminum, yet stronger than steel.

Also, I see you are using castor armor in the back. Castor armor is good, but it's better to put it in the front. Also, that bot could use a wedge, preferably one mounted on a DDT burst motor.

-Use Shiny Hubs. Pop-ups need low-ground clearance so it's easier to get under bots and harder for others to get under it.

-Use irons, not razors. Razors are more damaging than irons. Even though they're more fragile, they suit pop-ups better because it's difficult to knock them off, since they retract back into their hidey-hole.

-Take off the ramplate. Why? Pop-ups need protection to fend off Horizontal Spinners, too.

I was testing my wedges on my unfinished Cake Bot (Which doesn't have any weapons on it yet) and successfully outwedged Neglected Waterbug. He landed on his backside and got immobilized. Nothing much.

What version of Starcore you got?

Version 3. I might get Version 4 soon.

Since the sawblades do damage regardless of them spinning...

That's exactly why I used axles. I used HP Z-Teks on the first prototype, and then I was like, "Oh yeah, saws do the same damage no matter if the saws are moving or not." So I used axles to save weight and put on more weapons. Also, since axles don't need batteries, the batteries can focus on the drive motors and the bot can go faster. Plus, even with axles, it's still good at gut-ripping, too.

All those bots are Horizontal Spinners.

-What armour?

DSA. I always use DSA.

I notice there are no Battleshots of HS on there. :P

I just tested him against Anti-Popup designs and Killer Heavyweights.

Wheels are the absolute ONLY thing allowed to move on your bot.

The motors aren't allowed to move because the wheels are the only things that can.

Bwah, it doesn't matter. My other idea was better.

NO KINETIC PARTS!

Darn, I forgot about this rule. Well, there goes my idea of chained drive motors...

Good thing I still have another idea for a devious creation.
