Diskotek.  The taz wheels have a weird texture mapping but they were the right shape and size so I had to use them

Why would you want to do that?  It's not much more convenient than using the dropdown menu.

What is the "range" value set to?  If it's 99 the spinner should never stop

I'm disappointed to see that they're both plain boxes - when I saw the title I was hoping for something a little cooler than a black box and a white circle.

General Support / Re: How do I bfe the chassis of a bot?
« on: October 27, 2014, 07:31:03 PM »
I'm working on a guide to BFE'ing, it's been waylaid by my vid series but I did type up a rough draft.  Now seems like a good time to share it, because I love you guys, there's a couple of factual mistakes.

-The "Actual chassis" points is the section you care about.  Each of those is one of the "dots" that you put down in the botlab - a coordinate on the x-y-z axis.  Each one appears in triplicate (exactly 3 identical occurrences every time) - keep everything the same within each "triplicate" or weird stuff happens.  123's example is a triangle-shaped chassis - ergo, there are 18 lines... 3 dots on the base + 3 dots on the top plate, equals six, times 3 is 18.
-The Z coordinate goes in the same direction as the Forward Heading arrow points by default.
-The Y coordinate is the height.  All dots on the baseplate have a height of 0.
-The X coordinate is the "horizontal." Remember that "left" (-x) and "right" (+x) are from the bot's perspective, not yours.
-Chaging the "forward heading" arrow has NO EFFECT on any of this.  Probably obvious to you but it befuddled me for a while.

All you're really doing with BFE'ing is moving the "dots" from the botlab to wherever you want.  So, to make Robot The Bruce, you simply find the two coordinates that represent the top & front of Robot The Bruce, and drop their Y value by whatever (remember, in triplicate.)

I did not lie when I said that you had to be good at maths to do this.  For the next step, You'll need to know trigonometry to make wedges that go all the way up.

Ewe 2 is a bit too complex to BFE - you've got cutoff wedge shapes going in too many different directions at once.  I'd start with something simpler like Robot the Bruce if it's your first time BFE'ing

General Support / Re: How to BFE a component directly onto a motor?
« on: October 25, 2014, 01:58:44 PM »
Transferring the wheel from one motor to another is the easiest way to do this.  Take a duplicate of the motor in question, stick in anywhere on your bot, then attach the wheel to it.

Now, go into the bot file find the wheel, and change the number highlighted in red to the component number of the target motor.

If you've done everything right, you can remove the "donor" motor when you're done.

Has anyone tried to make commentary by putting it in the same sound file as something else (i.e. On the sound for the pit, there is a sound clip of Jonathan Pearce saying for the pit to go down?) It's something I've always wanted to see.
I've tried something like that, however the pit noise is scripted to be the same sound clip played three times... it'll require some real surgery to change that.

If you know any IRL roboteers, ask them if they can cut you a better deal on unused rams.  You never know; maybe one of them has an extra they're not using.

Always happy to see a presence of axes in modern robotics.

There will be a good supply of axebots as long as the sportsman class is going strong. Heck I've been toying with the idea of a brushless-powered axe thing for a sportsman sometime in the future, maybe once I get to college
. What kind of advantage would you get from a brushless motor?

I'm on my mobile so I cant retrieve stuff but that ebay link has lots of pics.  If you want my opinion, Siren is a piece of history that we can remember just through pictures.  I posted this link thinking someone would want it but now that I've had more time to ponder, I see no real merit in anyone buying it.

Always happy to see a presence of axes in modern robotics.  Is it reversible?  And if so, in what context would you use each side of the head?

You can find out by looking in the txt file of the component.  There's a line "dir = xxxxxxxx"  and that's the name of the folder where all the stuff related to the component in question is stored.

I'm surprised about the amount of bashing in the Robot Wars FB Group. People saying it's junk and outdated.

OF COURSE IT'S OUTDATED BUT YOU CAN ALWAYS RESTORE IT, YOU COMPETED WITH IT OR NOT FFS.
. I may not be a builder myself but even I can tell that that restoring that bot would be more expensive time and money wise than building one from scratch.  A proper restoration would mmean replacing practically everything plus deciding on how to lose 17 kilos if you actually want to compete with it.  And the end result it a bot who was neither well known nor good looking nor well built nor anything special at all.  While I don't stand behind their derision of the fans, I do see their frustration in people's willful blindness to these fairly obvious facts.

Robot Wars Superheayweight Siren is on Ebay. Apparently its owners left it in the shed when they moved away, and it's just been discovered now.  It's local pickup only, so for me, might as well be on the moon, but there's some interest in it, as the bidding's gone up a bit from the asking price of 20 pounds.

Whatever. Snookums havoked, just saying.
. I don't think it did.  It's a light robot, the floor flipper could have been strong enough to get an OOTA.

Did he though?  That sounds like the going rate for headshots.  Plus he needed to get from somewhere eventually.

I know I'm probably wrong and you're probably going to say you've got some pal named Back-Alley-Jack who'll do the exact same thing for a fiver, and while I believe you, just think of how believable it sounds to a professional.
