I has teh interwebz back yaaaaay!
Anyways, I really doubt that Purolator wants to sponsor a tourney a RA2 tourney, as it does nothing for their product. If no one has already, a response should be sent that:
a) Thanks them for their interest in the great sport of robotic combat. b) Clairifies that the Gametechmods community, while we are all fans of real combat robotics, is based around a computer game and very few members have the required time, money, resources and skills to build real-world robots. c) Suggests that if they really intend to sponsor a tourney, point them in the right direction as to who to contact (perhaps the links that SKBT posted and/or MikeNCR). d) *optional* Apologize that we were unable to provide a name as to who to contact for possible sponsorships, only point them in the right direction (modesty like this works well in small doses). e) Mention at how thrilled their new fans in the GTMs community would be at the support of robotic combat events. f) Thank them once again for their intrest in combat robotics, and consequent co-promotion of the sport with their products, and how appreciative we are.
Before anyone goes off to write something like this, do you guys think such a response is a good idea? And (for Jack, ACAMS or anyone who has been handling communication with Purolator) has a response similar in nature to this one already been sent?
I would write this, but I'm moving the next couple of days so time is sparse for the next little while. It would be best if Jack wrote it for consistency's sake. If you do JD, please PM me a copy before it gets sent off - I'd really like to edit/proofread/revise it a little.

Since you seem to have your head in the right place, I think you'll do just fine here, so welcome :D
Just a few general tips for you before you can get really into specifics:
- Try to build to the weight limit. You're going to hear this advice a ton as it's one of the default tidbits that people who want to help but don't really know their stuff will tell you endlessly. It's not as easy as it sounds either, as cramming ballasts in dosen't really count. Usually, you're going to want to cram as many weapons on as possible since damage in RA2 works a bit differently than in real life; unlike Hypnodisc, two teeth or spikes won't break very many opponents.
- Minimize chassis space. Again, you're going to hear this A LOT. This one is just common sense. A smaller chassis is not only a smaller target, but it also gives you more weight for more useful stuff like weapons and external armour.
- There's also a very useful glitch that everybody uses. After you finish designing your chassis, do not click on the "Armour" tab. By not selecting any armour, the game automatically assigns and armour that is the same weight as aluminium but stronger than steel. We call it DSA, or double strength aluminium.
- MOAR weapons. As I said earlier, RA2 is a bit different than real life in terms of damage. Basically, more spikes = better, and razor tips, maces, and iron spikes are the best. It's worth noting that all weapons have the same HP values (except razor tips; they have 1/2 the HP but are more damaging), so there is no advantage whatsoever in using the heavy ones like sledgehammers. When in doubt, add more spikes.
Hope this helps :)

WELL, YOU'RE GONNA BE A LAST ROUND LOSER IF INF GETS OFF HIS LAZY ASS AND FINISHES BRAWL OF TEH BUILDERS >:D

Nope. If you do, it creates the potential for some bizzarre rock-paper-scissors scenario if you beat CB, thus simultaneously having three bots that are 1-1 against the other two :O
And the losers bracket here was a consolation bracket for the first round losers (HAHA YOU'RE A FIRST ROUND LOSER :P), not a traditional loser bracket. Notice Scrap, Pwn and Joe were all outright eliminated after their losses?

Time for an amazingly inartistic splash, featuring my first attempt at the stock popup, which has an amazingly unoriginal name. Normally I hate popups, but the HS in stock were getting on my nerves, so I made a popup to try and kill them.
Sounds exactly like what inspired R4. Grannies usually make your wedges worse. Try to get shinies or, even better, rubbers on. 4 blacks are overkill, 2 or 3 would suffice. Turn your Z-teks 90 degrees so that they flush with the floor. Also, use ramplates instead of mower blades.
From what I can remember, wheel diameter has little effect on wedges. There's a lot of useful stuff about wedges in this thread: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,1215.0.html courtesy of Clickbeetle. This should help.

I just asked about your English because you have a tendency to forget pluralizations and tenses, which are hallmarks of people who have another language as their first. You're not misinterpreting anything, I was just curious xD
We weren't on the same page with this debate for a bit though. This seems to have corrected itself.
And I read the Typhoon flag thread and other than you (you did say you thought it should be banned) only Naryar condemned it, but only for use as an anti-wedge device. No one shouted it down for stabilizers.

Just a couple of mostly off topic questions 123STW: Where are you from, and is English your second language? Also, the Typhoon flag was NEVER completely unrealistic and bannable. Its problem was the ability to sink through the arena floor creating potentially "un-outwedgeable" bots (although in my testing this theory didn't stand up at all - the opponent just slid through the non-existant collision mesh and under the bot). Also, it was generally not used because it glitched in online play, making bots equipped with it unable to be selected at all. It only had limited uses as well (a static srimech for SS's) and there are better options around. Exostacking is overpower because you can potentially create NARmour everywhere with batteries, motors, axles, etc. Basically everything sticking out of the chassis that still counts as directly connected cannot be destroy. So sticking as much things out as possible will be the optimum strategy.
We've already established that invisible collision mesh armour isn't kosher, so you're arguing a moot point. I for one think that if motors when exostacked appear in combat, they should be allowed. Just because components are attached to the chassis doesn't mean they don't take damage; baseplate components still take all the damage that non-baseplate components would and in the case of motors, taking damage means decreased functionality and preformance. So, exostacking them becomes a risk/reward excersize, not blatant cheating (like NARmour). However I don't know which components appear and do not appear on the baseplate in combat, nor do I know if invisible components take damage. Perhaps someone should take a detailed look into this so we can have something definitive to base arguments on.

Omg wheel win. It looks much too thin to me, which makes for easy flankage. Try making a version where you have two DDT wedges and the razors in the middle. You'll probably have extra weight if you do it too.

I don't see how exostacking is "overpowered" at all. As for BFE, there's already this problem in Stock and it's a complete non-issue. We can never know if anyone truly stacks anything (like two black batteries), but we allow it because most of us can duplicate the results in the botlab so we take claims of stacking at face value. In this sense, I don't see how exostacking is any different.

1) I thought we all agreed Narmour was unrealistic and therefore not allowed anyways. 2) @ Joe: the only way to fix that is to get a better engine and build a sequel or an entirely new game. In real life, components on the baseplate (if there is one) aren't indestructible. In real life, pounding on the chassis dosen't reduce a HP value that eventually depletes and you die. In real life, actual physics determines how much damage a bot dishes out, not some bizzarre formula that allows more weaponry to increase damage. In real life, components don't have hitpoints and fly off if they are scraped enough, craftsmanship determines durability. The point is RA2 can NEVER be completely like real-world combat robots like a lot of people would like it to be. 3) Did anybody actually read this idea? In DSL perhaps a rule of thumb should be that if the component exostacked appears when fighting (like piglets and NPC's) then it should be okay. If it's invisible when fighting, it's not allowed. This allows Mags (like on Mike's new LW) to be used like piglets and NPC's.

Aww, that's depressing... Click has now won more tourneys this week than I have in about five years. I think I'm 1-5 in grand finals now off the top of my head... (BBEANS 4, BBEANS 5, Stocks Revenge, Tag Team Challenge and Wild Robots Live were all my losses. Doomed Bots has been my only win). I really thought I could beat Click, but LMF just wasn't destructive enough. But hey, on the bright side, I don't think anyone else can say that they've lost to both BeetleBros in tournament finals!
