Alright, I'll look at the 50:1s on offer when I get the chance. It was a bit of an assumption to go 30:1, as while I don't know my ratios, 1000:1 is described as fine, precise movement.
Isn't there some sort of manual method to clean foam wheels?
yeah, its picking crap out of them or doing a burnout or something to spin the wheels against a non moving surface. robot speed is simple math. for mph its (tire diameter * axle shaft speed / 336 = mph) for feet per second its (tire diameter * axel shaft speed / 240 = fps) i'm not sure what usual uk ant speed is but 5mph is "fast" for a "us" 3lb or 1lb bot. a "quick" robot can get up to speed in about 1 robot length. if i was you i'd go with lite flites because they are thicker. if a chunk gets ripped out of one of them there will be more wheel left than if the same size chunk was ripped out of a lectra flite.

So I think I'm gonna go to my local resale store today and see if they have any cheap surplus motors that I could possibly buy for that 30 lber I was building a while back. I'm still planning on building that generic looking sawbot I had posted the mockups for a while ago.
your simple answer would be used 500rpm 3/8" chuck drills.

Yeah, I got mine from a thrift shop for a buck. It sees minimal use.
its amazing what college kids throw away... you can find so much at the ends of terms.

i tried something like this with the custom "rocket jets" it worked alright. (Image removed from quote.)
Its a little different than any other flipper I've made...
It's flipper arm is on a 90 degree axle and uses two rocket boosters to power it. One is on the arm and propels the arm up and the other is on the bot and sticks the bot to the arena floor so that it doesn't launch itself. In terms of functionality and performance it's the closest thing to a real pneumatic flipper that you'll get in RA2.
I had to edit the rocket booster's power to 200 to make it work and it still doesn't flip very high.
just some general stuff; putting your wheels up front will give the robot a smaller turning circle. try to build as small as possible to save weight so you can use it elsewhere.

mikencr did it first... edit: rest of this post was not meant for this thread... people act stupid on gtm because they can. they can because there is no sense of respect or authority here. nary destroyed all respect and authority that the mod staff had over the community. he makes an ass out of himself every day with his participacition in stupid threads and how he makes discipline humorous by calling it "smiting and justice fisting" . he can't keep control over any situation because he isn't respected because he commands respect but he doesn't take gtm the least bit seriously so nobody respects him.
