General Support / Re: Game freezes when wiring bots« on: July 20, 2012, 01:46:37 PM »No wiring issues ever happened and I'm running an early model Windows XP That's to do with your RAM, and too many programs open at once, eating up RAM, and slowing your computer down. Close some of the background programs that aren't doing anything, then get rid of it. I use fullscreen RA2, so I'm not really able to run any background programs, or do anything with them. Still not really sure about the wiring stuff, though. Perhaps you are using a key that RA2 doesn't recognise, such as the number pad on the right. Not every computer has one of those. 643
Site News and Feedback / Re: A question about the GTM imagehost« on: July 20, 2012, 01:39:24 PM »
JPEGs, PNGs and GIFs are all allowed. Anything else, it won't accept. This is largely due to the comparatively low file size of JPGs and PNGs, and GIFs are so far the only image file types capable of showing animation. JPGs are better for photographs, because there is hardly any solid blocks of colour in a photograph, whereas PNGs are better suited to vector art and suchlike, where you find large areas using exactly the same colour. PNGs can also handle transparency, which is very useful sometimes.

Looks quite good. PL3 seems a little bit weak to me, if a bot's going to be sitting on top of it,though I'm not entirely sure what you could do to get the weight to upgrade it.

Mortis-like. Cool. Drive is pretty terrible, though Piglets are weapon motors, rather than drive motors. Astroflights, or TWM's would be better in this situation. Micro wheels generally aren't that good either, Minis or Hypnos would be better here. Long Batteries are the worst choice you can make, ant batteries are better, or perhaps the tall Black batteries if you're using two Betas here. You've got over 200 kilos to work with, you could easily improve this in the right ways. =)

GO WILL HARVEY. 4th place, going great. Shaun McConnell's hanging onto the top end, and Alex & Nick aren't really anywhere.

I take it Realistic DSL is IRL building, if DSL Standard is regular DSL building.
This actually looks like a pretty good tournament, I think. Do you want Scotland and England represented as two separate nations, or just together as Great Britain? 653

Intercourse, Pennsylvania is my personal favourite. Followed closely by the village of Climax in Missouri. Both are defeated, however, by the small Swiss town of Cunter. 654

There are two pretty good ones in Scotland. Twatt, a small village on the Orkneys, and Glenrothes.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: General Chatter Thread« on: July 18, 2012, 09:45:22 AM »Also doesnt get jammed or stuck, just impacts.. one of the real robots magazines went into detail about it with Hypnodisc as it was one of the first (if not the first) to use blunt kinetic weapons Same here. =D I remember I got rid of Cybot, though, which was probably daft, I could have kept a bunch of the motors, wheels and such. I can also think of Bodyhammer and Killerhurtz that did the blunt kinetic weapon thing before Hypnodisc. The series 3 version had sharp blades anyway, you could see them slicing through Steg-O-Saw-Us in the grand final, but not really doing much internal damage. 657
Stock Showcases / Re: NFX.showcase/stock« on: July 18, 2012, 09:38:02 AM »Sick extender setup. If you were to use maces, the extenders would be like unbreakable. I didn't use maces, partly because of the weight, but mostly because it would have caused the weapons to bounce uncontrollably. Not really sure why maces affect stability more than other weapons. Although I could lose the popup parts and get maces on, with enough weight left over for something to trap them, like a plow or small blades. 658

Welcome to the boards. =)
It's actually not too bad for a newcomer, though there are a few things you can do to improve. A turret is normally built from a servo, to allow greater control, plus you don't get the axle spinning around pointlessle when you're not aiming. Static wedges also aren't particularly effective, if you mount the wedges on a burst motor, then you can force the wedges into the ground, and that helps in getting under opponents. RA2 Physics is the equivelant of Egyptian chocolate. 659
Off-Topic Discussion / Re: General Chatter Thread« on: July 18, 2012, 06:41:50 AM »I just saw Typhoon 2 at Dundee science centre yesterday.Moving or just stationary? I saw it at the Salex Gallileo building. It allows more force to be transferred to the internal components, and damage a greater area, rather than just a focused attack on one part. 660
General Support / Re: Help with Hax Mode (DSL)« on: July 17, 2012, 03:22:03 PM »Whenever I try to activate Hax Mode in DSL, the piston's axle flings itself out way too far, to the point of where it isn't in sight. It won't return, either. I was using DSL parts and in an attempt to get it to work right, I later instead used the hidden stock parts via cheatbot2. However, it still happened. Is there a way to change this? Pause button, then go in and out of the Test Lab. Piston should return. |
