You can only add friend if you have paid for something on steam. E.g I have Portal 2
Well damn. I already have a whole bunch of games on Xbox, and I don't really want to pay for them again. Any recommendations?
IIRC, you could by literally the cheapest thing for sale. (Like a TF2 item)
I added Pwn and FOTPEX as friends while being free, I don't know where you got that bull from.

I feel your pain. I used to play Counter Strike TF Classic & get my ass handed to me tenfold. I just couldn't master the split second pinpoint aim that some of my friends could do.
For this reason I have been avoiding TF2. :P
Encounters in TF2 are longer than 0.5 secs but rarely longer than a minute. Not only that, each class is different. Sniper and scout may be like your Counterstrike and COD, but Heavy and Soldier are more like quake, and Engy is pretty much a one tower Tower d Defence game.
